WARM UP: What does your name mean?


Using a dictionary, google or any other resource, students find and write down an
appropriate adjective that begins with each letter of their first name. For
example: Flirtatious, Relaxed, Extrovert, Desirable

GROUP ACTIVITY 1:
Students will play with a power point presentation about to be verb: they will have to

GROUP ACTIVITY 2:
Students will read an easy reading that describe four students who live in different
countries. They provide personal information with the verb to be, and then students
will answer some questions related to the four readings.

INDIVIDUAL ACTIVITY 2:
Fill in the blanks using be. Depending on the pictures, the following sentences will
require an affirmative, negative and negative form of BE

INDIVIDUAL ACTIVITY 3:
Reading: Lillian’s “About Me.” students will have to highlight/underline new vocabulary,
unfamiliar words. Then I will check for comprehension/model wh-questions by orally
asking the students to answer questions 1-13 about Lillian.
Students should then be given time to answer the questions independently in writing.
Individually students can answer about themselves, or they can interview a partner.

As a class read Lillian’s “About Me.” students will have to highlight/underline new

Present continuous: form

We use am, are, is + the -ing form of the verb. We use the short form more often than the
full form, especially when speaking.

Verbs not often used in the present continuous

Some verbs are normally used in the present simple and not in the present continuous.
Here are some of them:

know, suppose, think, understand (mental process verbs)

admire, adore, detest, hate, like, respect (verbs expressing feelings)

smell, taste (verbs describing the senses)

consist, contain, last (verbs describing permanent qualities)

promise, swear (speech act verbs)

You could ask Greg if he can help. He knows a bit about cars.
Not: He’s knowing a bit about cars.
Those batteries don’t last very long.
Not: Those batteries aren’t lasting very long.

Students will solve a crossword in order to review the number. They will have to
make the operations to obtain the number and then write it into the crossword

adverbs. They describe how often you do an activity. They are often used in
descriptions of someone's habits or routines. The position of the adverb will
depend on the verb / verbs in the sentence. Here are some rules for where they
are placed in a sentence when they are used with the simple present tense to
