1. Now, you may be thinking a bunch or what if’s such as: what if I’m not interested in news?
What if, I only want to write creatively? What if I don’t want to be a journalist in the future?
In these cases, you still don’t have to worry! What’s great about journalism is that not only
does is make you politically and socially aware about the state of the country and of the
world, but it also opens doors of endless possibilities when it comes to the Humanities and
social sciences. Do you know why? It is because journalism can make you an effective
communicator, not just through your writing, but through the way you speak and share
information as well.

2. The thing about the journalism course is that it’s competitive, difficult and it requires you
to work at your fullest. This means that your work experience defines how employable you
will be in the future, and the journalism course opens opportunities for that. Professors will
expose you to a lot of internships, and the jobs you will be handling will improve your
writing. Since journalism requires to read and write 90% of the time, you learn to gain the
critical thinking skills needed to decipher what is important and true and how to present
the information you gathered in a way that anyone will be able to understand. Not only
that, besides writing, you will be exposed in doing tasks such as video editing, researching,
project planning, conducting interviews and many more.

3. By doing these tasks, it allows you to gain the general skills that are valued by many
employers. These skills include, critical analysis, resourcefulness, self-management and
interpersonal skills, leadership, a flexible, creative and independent approach to tasks, the
ability to meet deadlines, and the capacity to communicate information effectively and
clearly. This means that beside becoming a journalist, you can become a lawyer, writer,
researcher, PRO, translator, multimedia specialist, and many more. The skies the limit if
you take up journalism.

4. With that, let’s get back to our first question: Why journalism? In summary, this is because
journalism makes you the call for action to the people. You get to inform the masses of the
important happenings in the country and help them in making important decisions. Such
decisions include who to vote, what stand to be on, and what actions to take for possible
calamities. In addition to that, journalism can help you be a part of history. Whether it may
be good or bad, you get to be a catalyst that can shape the future days to come in your
country. By taking up journalism, you get to be the first one to know the truth and you can
also gain the needed skills to find these truths. Lastly, through the journalism course, even
if you are not interested in writing, reporting, or sharing news, you get to attain the skills
to become employable in any kind of profession you so desire.
5. The thing about Journalism is it is not just a profession but a vocation. You may not earn
as much compared to other courses, but we guarantee you that the career you will embark
in will be fulfilling. You may have sleepless nights, meet people who would bring out the
worst in you, experience disappointments, but it’s not always the destination you are
reaching for but the journey to it. Make your works, voice, and actions matter. Become a
journalist.
