Mahajanas are the twelve delegated agents of the Lord

Vishnu who have the duty to bring to the people the message to
follow the path of devotional service. The word means "great
persons", and was also used for administrators or officials of
the Western Chalukyas rulers.[1]
Bhagavata Purana[2] (6.3.20-21) lists twelve Mahajanas, biggest
devotees of God Vishnuand knowers of Bhagavata-dharma. They
are Lord Brahma, Narada, Shiva, the four Kumaras, Kapila — the
son of Devahuti, Svayambhuva
Manu, Prahlada, Janaka, Bhishma, Bali, Śuka, and Yama.[3]
Birth of Brahma

Lord Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, appears in

many different transcendental forms according to His desire.
The Srimad Bhagavatam explains that in His form as
Garbhodakasayi Vishnu, the Lord, lying o His bed with Sesa-
Naga covering Him as His umbrella, appeared to be sleeping
within the Garbha Ocean for a very long time. By the Lord's
arrangement, the subtle form of creation pierced through His
abdomen and took the shape of the bud of a lotus flower.
Swaying gently back and forth, it reached up into the universal
sky. Lord Vishnu personally entered into the lotus flower as
the Supersoul. In the center of its silk petals sat a four-
headed being, called Brahma, the first born living being.

The Srimad-Bhagavatam(3.8.16) explains: "Brahma, born out of

the lotus flower, could not see the world, although he was
situated in the whorl. He therefore circumambulated all of
space, and while moving his eyes in all directions he achieved
four heads in terms of the four directions."

Lord Brahma, seated in that lotus, could not understand the

creation, the lotus or himself. He tried to understand them for
a very long time. No one, not even Lord Brahma, can
Understand the mystery of creation simply by mental
speculation.

Lord Brahma thought, "Who am I, that I am situated on the top

of this lotus? Where from has this lotus sprouted? There must
be something downwards, from which this lotus has
grown,must be within the water."

Lord Brahma then entered the water downwards through the

channel of the stem of the lotus. But, in spite of entering the
stem and going closer to the navel of Lord Vishnu, he could not
trace out the root.

Brahma, seated on the lotus flower, could not find the source
of the lotus which came from the abdomen of Lord Vishnu.

He then gave up searching and returned to the top of the

lotus. He Heard two syllables 'Ta' and 'Pa' and thus thought it
wise to sit down on his lotus seat and concentrate his mind on
the Supreme Lord. In this way, Brahma underwent penances
for one hundred celestial years.

Brahma's one day is calculated to be 4,320,000,000 solar

years. of human beings. Brahma meditated for 100 years
before he could understand the Supreme Lord!

After what seemed like ages, he at last heard the sweet sound
of a flute. When Brahma's meditation was complete, he
developed transcendental knowledge and could see the
Supreme Lord within his heart. Brahma could now see that on
the water was a gigantic lotus like white bedstead, the body
of Sesa-naga, on which the Supreme Personality of Godhead
was lying.

Brahma could now see that the transcendental body of Lord

Vishnu, unlimited in length and breadth, occuied the three
planetary systems, upper, middle and lower. His body was self-
illuminated and was beautifully decorated. Lord Brahma
concluded that the personality within the water was indeed
the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Lord Krishna(Vishnu). He
was the garland of flowers on the Lord's chest, who looked
very beautiful and glorified Him with Vedic wisdow in sweet
songs. When Lord Brahma saw the Lord, he glanced over
creation at the same time.

All became visible to him. Thus, Lord Brahma became

overwhelmed with the mode of passion and the desire to
create. He began to offer his respectful prayers to the
Supreme Lord.

The Supreme Lord replied:...."O Brahma, the prayers that you

have chanted praising the glories of My transcendental
activities, the penances you have undertaken to understand
Me, and your firm faith in Me- all these are to be considered My
causeless mercy. I am very much pleased by your description
of Me in terms of My transcendental qualities, which appear
mundane to the mundaners. I grant you all benedictions in
your desire to glorify all the planets by your activities. Any
human being who prays like Brahma, and who thus worships
Me, shall very soon be benedicted with the fulfillment of all his
desires, for I am the Lord of all benediction."

Brahma introduces Time and Space:

Thus inspired, Brahma thought, material nature now needs

shape. Thus he began the secondary creation. Just like a
tailor maked clothes, I'll make bodies to dress the souls who
have come here". From Vishnu, he received the material
elements, namely ether, air, fire, water and earth. From these
ingredients he made ears to hear, eyes to see, skin to feel,
tongues to taste and noses to smell. To dispel the darkness,
Brahma then fashioned a brilliant sun and a silver moon. He
constructed other stars and planets and hurled them
throughout the universe. He arranged the cosmos in three
levels; the dark lower regions, the middle planets (including
Earth), and the upper, heavenly worlds.

Brahma then introduced time, measured by the rotation of the

planets. The earth and sun marked the days and years; the
moon's orbit measured the month. He named the seven days
of the week after the main planets - the Sun (Surya), Moon
(Chandra), Mars (Kuja or Mangala), Mercury (Budha), Jupiter
(Guru), Venus (Shukra) and Saturn (Shani).

Life Span of Brahma:

Name of the age Earth Years Demigod

Years

Satya yuga 1,728,000 4,800

Treta yuga 1,296,000 3,600

Dvapara yuga 864,000 2,400

Kali yuga 432,000 1,200

Total 4,320,000 12,000

One day and night for the demigods = One earth year

one demigod year = 360 earth years

One yuga cycle (Divya yuga) = Four yugas (4,320,000 years)

One day of Brahma = 1000 yuga cycles (4,320,000* 1000) =

4,320,000,000 years)

One night of Brahma = 1000 yuga cycles (4,320,000*1000 =

4,320,000,000 years)

One year of Brahma = 720,000 yuga cycles (320 *2)

The life of Brahma is 100 year

=720,000 yuga cycles * 100 = 72 million yuga cycles

= is the life of the universe

=311,040,000,000,000 earth years approxiamately!!!

Brahma realized that he needed a government to run the

universe. After some thought, he decided to create a number
of lesser gods, knows as devas or demigods.

The first of these was the powerful Indra, the king of heaven,
He appeared majestic, riding on a while elephant and wielding
his personal weapon, the thunder bolt. Then came the noble
hearted Surya, Lord of the Sun. Vayu took control of the winds,
and Agni took charge of fire Varuna became god of waters and
fair-faced Chandra became Lord of the moon planet. Brahma
appointed the stern and impartial Yama as the god of death
and justice. When Brahma had finished, he arranged that each
of the demigods be married to a beautiful goddess and gave
them palaces in heaven. Brahma then married the goddess of
learning, Saraswati. She wore a spotless white saree and
carried a musical instrument called Veena.

Brahma created other powerful beings called asuras or

demons, and gave them homes in the lower planets. The
demigods serve and worship Vishnu but the demons consider
Vishnu their mortal enemy.

Brahma is sometimes identified with the Vedic god Prajapati, he
is also known as Vedanatha (god of Vedas), Gyaneshwar (god
of Knowledge), Chaturmukha (having Four
Faces) Svayambhu (self born), Brahmanarayana (half Brahma
and half Vishnu), etc, as well as linked
to Kama and Hiranyagarbha (the cosmic egg).[5][6] He is more
prominently mentioned in the post-Vedic Hindu epics and the
mythologies in the Puranas. In the epics, he is conflated
with Purusha.[2] Although, Brahma is part of the Brahma-Vishnu-
Shiva Trimurti, ancient Hindu scriptures mention multiple other
trinities of gods or goddesses which do not include Brahma. [7]
[8][note 1]
Several Puranas describe him as emerging from a lotus,
connected to the navel of Lord Vishnu. Other Puranas suggest
that he is born from Shiva or his aspects,[10] or he is a supreme
god in diverse versions of Hindu mythology.[5] Brahma, along
with other deities, is sometimes viewed as a form (saguna) of
the otherwise formless (nirguna) Brahman, the ultimate
metaphysical reality in VedanticHinduism.[8][6] In an alternate
version, some Puranas state him to be the father of Prajapatis.
[11]
Brahma does not enjoy popular worship in present-age
Hinduism and has lesser importance than the other members
of the Trimurti, Vishnu and Shiva. Brahma is revered in ancient
texts, yet rarely worshiped as a primary deity in India.[12] Very
few temples dedicated to him exist in India; the most famous
being the Brahma Temple, Pushkar in Rajasthan.[13] Brahma
temples are found outside India, such as at the Erawan
Shrine in Bangkok.[14]

What was Pushpak Viman made of?

Pushpaka was originally made by Vishwakarma for Brahma, the Hindu god of creation;
later Brahma gave it to Kubera, the God of wealth; but it was later stolen, along with
Lanka, by his half-brother, king Ravana.
