Modal Verbs
(Should / Must)
Should é usado para expressar conselho, recomendação, dever.

You shouldn’t smoke.


We should stay at home tonight.
I should study hard.

Must é usado para expressar obrigação, necessidade. Musn’t é utilizado


para expressar proibição.

Must we wake up early tomorrow?


You must go to the dentist.
You mustn’t feed the animals.

Pronouns
Os possessive adjectives têm a função de adjetivo e vêm sempre
seguidos de um substantivo.

This is my backpack. Those are your things.

Os possessive pronouns são usados no lugar do substantivo para evitar a


repetição deste quando queremos dizer que algo pertence a alguém.

This backpack is mine. Those things are yours.

Relative Pronouns
Os relative pronouns são usados para ligar uma oração principal a uma
oração subordinada – fundamental para definir claramente um termo da
oração principal e dar sentido à frase.

who e that → referem-se a pessoas


which e that → referem-se a coisas e animais
whose → indica posse

There comes the doctor. He healed me.


who /
There comes the doctor who healed me.
that
There comes the doctor that healed me.

Relative The man told us a story. The story was very interesting.
Pronouns which /
that The man told us a story which was very interesting.
The man told us a story that was very interesting.
That is the teacher. His mother is my neighbor.
whose
That is the teacher whose mother is my neighbor.
Used to
Used to expressa um hábito, ação ou estado que existiu em algum tempo
no passado, mas que deixou de existir.

When I was a child, I used to wake up early.

When I was a teenager, I used to watch TV all day.

Nas formas negativa e interrogativa, usa-se como auxiliar didn’t e did,


respectivamente.

When I was a student, I didn’t use to exercise.


Did you use to watch cartoons when you were a child.
Adverbs of Time
Conheça os principais advérbios de tempo e veja como eles podem
ser usados.

first → primeiro
then → depois
after that → depois disso
next → em seguida
finally → por último

First Kitty goes to the bathroom and washes her face,

then brushes her teeth.

After that she puts on her uniform,

Finally she goes to school.

Apenas os advérbios first e finally têm posição definida na oração.

Subject Pronouns
Os object pronouns são pronomes oblíquos geralmente usados depois do
verbo. Observe a relação entre os subject pronouns, usados como sujeito
da oração, e os object pronouns, usados como objeto (direto ou indireto)
da oração.

He is cooking, help him, please.


The bedroom is dirty, clean it, please.
