Educational Philosophy

An educational philosophy is an application that indicates to a problem of education,

assesses definitions, goals, and chains of meaning used in education by teachers and

administrators. Educational philosophies also help teachers explain their values and beliefs of

what should happen or be done in their classroom. This philosophy is significant in all schools

and with each and every teacher because it helps with the many influences in ways of what and

how children are being educated. My personal educational philosophy is a combination of how I

want to create my classroom to be a safe learning environment and the inspiration of becoming a

life-long learner of new and exciting things that both the children and I as a teacher are learning.

As for me, I have been attending college for a degree in education, throughout my time in

college I have been learning many new things. For example, the safety of my classroom and

many different strategies that I can apply in situations, whether it is mild or severe or how to

handle classroom management. The purpose of writing this paper is to help me overcome my

reflections and improve on the areas in my classroom that need more interaction and

effectiveness. I believe that there are three essential elements that are beneficial to teaching. The

three essential elements are having a safe and loving environment, provide the children with

more hands-on activities, and allow the children to be their own unique self.

The first goal that I believe in making myself become a better teacher is making sure my

classroom environment is safe and loving towards all of the children. In other words, I think the

children should be free and be able to speak their own mind and develop. Another way to help

keep the classroom safe is to make sure to place any chemicals out of reach and there are no toys

in the classroom that will cause an injury to a child. In my classroom, I will make sure to provide

a variety of educational toys for the children to learn from. For example, shapes, alphabet,

animals, and blocks. To help make the children feel safe in the classroom, I will need to make

sure that I am being compassionate and interacting with every individual child. This will help me

build a caring relationship with each and every one of the children. When becoming a teacher, it

is a learning process for both new and experienced teachers. Being a teacher, I will learn many

new strategies to help educate the children and make them become more involved in my

classroom all while learning and enjoying a variety of new things.

The second goal that I believe will make me a better teacher in the classroom is to

provide more hands-on activities. I personally think that hands-on activities will help the children

increase their learning. This is because the children are able to visually see how things are done

and not just listen. Children are able to become more motivated when they are able to get

involved than just writing or listening. Children will tend to lose focus on the work they are

being forced to participate in, then they will get behind or they will goof off. The hands-on

activities will help get the children to be more interested because they are up and moving. I have

always learned that I learn better doing the learned task along with the person because then you

have the experience of what you are to be doing. Some children have trouble comprehending

which will make it harder for them to listen to the teacher and follow up with the assignment.

Almost anything can be transformed into hands- on if it can’t, I could try to come up with a game

to make. I want my children to become focused and enjoy what they are learning. Another thing

is when children are taught new things, they are easily amazed and want to join in. For example,

science is one of the many subjects that grabs children’s attention because they are able to

predict, participate, and observe. The children are also able to use hands-on during free play

when playing with the toys provided in the classroom. Play is one of the most important aspects

of children learning. They are able to use their imagination and figure out how something is

supposed to be used or find a way to make something work.

My last goal that I believe all educators should follow through with is to let each and

every child be their own unique self. Whether a child has the intelligence or needs more support I

will help to assist my children in expressing themselves and be able to accept them for who they

are. All children are different in a variety of ways and they need to understand and accept the

difference. People should not judge other, just because they have a disability does not mean that

are not intelligent. What’s on the outside does not always affect what is happening on the inside.

There are children that may have a learning disability or special needs. I believe that as long as

you believe in yourself you can overcome anything. I believe that if my class had disability

children in it, I could find a way to make them want to be in my class and succeed. Each

individual classroom has their own unique environment. The role that I have as being a teacher is

to support each and every child in a way to help them develop and improve their own learning

styles that will work for them. In my classroom, I will plan a curriculum which will include the

different learning styles. These learning styles may include visual, auditory or kinesthetic. I will

also make the learning styles applicable for all of the children. Some curriculum ideas I can plan

could include projects, individual work and group learning which I think will help engage and

motivate a student to learn. The children will also become more social with their teachers and

classmates.

These three essential elements are the goals in my educational philosophy. These goals

are what I think will make me a better teacher in a future classroom. I want all the children in my

classroom to be equal in their own ways and learn to their full potential. Children need to

understand they are in a safe environment and they are supported and loved by both their family

and teachers. The educational philosophy should be written in the beginning, during and after

teaching. This way it will show me what I should change to make my classroom a better

environment and help me become a better educator. This paper is to help me as a teacher learn

and observe to see what works in my classroom and what still needs improvement. Everything

changes over time and so do the children. I will learn from the mistakes I make and how to fix

the problem. Children are not just learning throughout the year; the teachers are also learning. As

a teacher I will need to understand the learning styles of all the children and decide on a

curriculum to go with the class. This paper will change throughout the period of teaching

whether it is the aspects or ideas. I know I cannot be the perfect teacher, but I want to make sure

my children are learning what they need to learn to succeed in the future. Another thing is I want

them to enjoy my compassionate and loving behavior in being their teacher. In other words, I

want to be able to grow and carry out a powerful relationship with all my children and their

families. I want the parents or guardians to feel like they are involved with everything that is

going on in their children’s lives.
