COMPONENTS REQUIRED:

 5 BC547 NPN transistors

 5 LEDs
 6 capacitors of 100 micro farad
 5 resistors of 68k
 Connecting wires

CONNECTIONS:

1. Fix 5 transistors on breadboard.

2. Connect base of transistors to resistor and connect other end of resistor to positive rail.
3. Connect cathode of each LED to collector of transistors and other end of LED to positive rail.
4. Connect emitter of each transistor to negative rail.
5. Connect anode of capacitor to the base of first transistor and cathode to the collector of second
transistor.
6. Continue step 5 and connect cathode of 5th capacitor to the collector of 1st transistor.
7. Connect 6th capacitor’s anode with base of last transistor and cathode with negative rail.
8. Connect 3V to 9V of power supply.

WORKING:

 The positive voltage supply is connected to collector via LED and capacitor and base is connected
via resistor and capacitor.
 Negative voltage is connected to emitter.
 Thus, the capacitor will discharge and start charging again through the base of the next transistor and
through led of itself.
 This causes the stage 2 transistor to remain on while the capacitor continues to charge. At the same
time, the capacitor connecting stage 2 and 3 will discharge through the 68k resistor and stage 2
transistor.
 When the capacitor charging current falls down, light will turn off causing the voltage at the collector
of the stage 2 transistor to rise.
 Since the capacitor connecting stage 2 and 3 has discharged and the voltage rises at the collector of
stage 2, the capacitor from stage 2 and 3 will charge causing the 3rd stage to turn on and the cycle
repeats for successive stages 4,5, and back to 1. The sequence rate is determined by the capacitor and
resistor values (100uF and 68kohms in this case).

OBSERVATION:

The circuit of simple LED chaser is implemented. The individual LEDs turn on and off in a repeating
sequence, thus producing a visually attractive display in which light seem to repeatedly run through a chain
of LEDs.

APPLICATIONS:

 The LED chaser is one of the most popular types of LED-driving circuit and is widely used in
advertising displays.
 This circuit is mainly used in the occasions, decoration articles or in visual indication sign boards.
 Circuit can be used as vehicle indicator when it is broke down in the middle of the road. It can be
used in operation theaters or offices as an indication that you are engaged in work.
