Ranjit and Ming Keat were walking home after school one day. As they passed a tree, they heard a kitten
crying.

“ Hey ! Look, there’s a kitten up that tree,” Ming Keat exclaimed.

“ There. Can you see that brown furry thing between the branches?” asked Ming Keat.

Long ago, there lived a girl named Sofia. She had to work from a very early age to help support her family.
Sometimes, she worked as a cleaner in the house of the richest man in the village.

One day, as Sofia was cleaning the rich man’s house, she found a diamond necklace behind the
cupboard. She thought of keeping the necklace for herself. She needed some money to pay for her school
fees. Her family could also live comfortably for a few months.

Sofia kept the necklace and took it home. For the entire week, she could not sleep well. Finally, she
decided to pick up the courage to return the necklace to the rich man.

“Thank you for doing the right thing, Sofia. This necklace belonged to my mother and it is very
precious to me. My wife misplaced it and we had been looking for it for a few months.”

The rich man gave Sofiaa second chance. He helped Sofia and she went on to graduate from a well-
