Wireless Tec hnologies for Internet of Things 16/11/2018

Synopsis

The Internet of Things (IoT) is a collection of different components that connect s oftware,
s ys tems , and people via Internet technology. IoT devices include not only s martphones and
tablets , but millions of machines , devices , and new twis ts on traditional products which were
previous ly not connected to the Internet. How do thes e devices connect to the Internet and
communicate with each other? There are various wireles s technologies employed for IoT
products . This cours e des cribes various wireles s technologies us ed for IoT.

This cours e begins with the overview of the internet of things , market drivers , us e cas es and
requirements . The end-to-end IoT architecture and wireles s technologies for IoT are
introduced. The cours e then dives into the low power s hort range technologies , including NFC,
RFID, Bluetooth, ANT+, Z -Wave, Z igBee, 6LoWPAN, Wireles s HART, IEEE 802.11 ah. A comparis on
between the s hort range technologies is made. The cours e then dis cus s es in detail the low-
power wide-area technologies , for both unlicens ed and licens ed operations . The technologies
s uch as LoRa, Sigfox, EC-GSM, LTE-M and NB-IoT are pres ented in-depth and compared. Then,
the protocols and s ecurity requirements for IoT are highlighted. The cours e concludes with a
s ummary of wireles s technologies for IoT, key decis ion criteria and a preview of the 5G
mas s ive IoT vis ion.
