ABSTRACT

This research paper aims to present the work on Conceptual Design, Electrical System Design and

Engine Selection for a MALE UCAV that is capable of carrying 1500 lb. of payload, has 4000 km

of range and 20 hours endurance. A Medium-Altitude Long-Endurance Unmanned Combat Aerial

Vehicle (MALE UCAV) flies at an altitude of 10,000 to 30,000 feet for extended durations of

time, 24 to 48 hours. According to the provided initial requirements, inputs were given in AAA

(Advanced Aircraft Analysis) and design iterations were carried out. The iteration results consisted

of Weights, Aerodynamics, Performance, Geometry, Propulsion and Stability & Control

parameters of the UCAV. A total of three iterations were carried out to verify the obtained results

with those of initial requirements. Based on Propulsion module results, the Engine of MALE

UCAV is selected and afterwards, the Electrical System is designed using PLM software. The

conceptual design is further validated in X-plane by flying the simulated model.
