Growth Piece

For my growth piece, I decided to use my Social Studies Research class. I had previously

researched on Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT) during the summer of 2018, and to further expand

my knowledge on this topic, I decided to research on CLT.

The following were the learning targets that we have covered:

Outline: I can use the sources I have found to create an outline that organizes all of my

information.

Abstract: I can synthesize all of my sources and information to create a comprehensive

abstract.

Final Draft: I can create a successful, factual, and grammatically correct essay.

During our Transportation Summit, I made the proposal that CLT should be replaced by

concrete and be used in the construction sector. However, I really did not know what makes CLT

capable of replacing concrete; therefore, I decided to do my own research and strengthen my

conclusion.

The class required us to choose a topic and then we had to create an outline for our paper.

After browsing several journals, I created a rough draft and prepared an outline for my paper.

However, as I did not have adequate details about the outline, I received a 90% and the teacher

advised me on how to improve my paper.

Additionally, I used the sources I from my initial research and prepared the citation list

for my paper. When my teacher looked into it, she asked me (Im making all these up just for blah

blah blah) to find more credible sources and to back-up my claims with more scientific research.

This time, I used a journal finder and started looking for scientific research. Finally, I found

more journals and got it approved from my teacher.

 It was turn to finish my paper, and with using the sources I found online, I created a

rough draft within a few days. After this, one of my classmates peer-reviewed the paper and

made suggestions on how to improve it.

Real life- learned how research is done, first time wrote 10 pages, got to understand how reports

are gonna look like in the future. MOST IMPortantly, had an inspiration of wha tto use when i

become a civil engineer.

In real life, this will help me a lot. In overcoming this challenge, I have gained

confidence which is going to help in public speaking. Also, confidence is going to help me

perform well in a job interview. Besides, if I go to a new school or any new environment, I will

be more confident to overcome challenges and succeed over there.

In conclusion, being able to enhance my English reading and writing skills has helped me

a lot. By overcoming this challenge, I was able to build confidence which allows us to succeed in

different situations in life. I believe that moving to the US has made me able to use English more

fluently and now I feel confident in using my 4th language. I wish to develop more skills

overtime and be exemplary at this.
