this tool (web
address)
Brief instructions To use this tool, the teacher is required to register. It is a free tool and once you
of how to use the register, you can create what is called a VoiceThread. You create a VoiceThread by:
tool Step 1 - Adding visuals.
Step 2 - Adding audio/video comments or narration. Once visuals have been
uploaded, you can add comments or narration to them.
Step 3 - Share your presentation.
This tool walks you through the steps you need to create a VoiceThread and there is a
blue help icon if need be!

Ideas for how the Elementary: Students can use this tool to create storytelling threads for learning new
tool can be used words or for making presentations. For example, if the class is learning about what is
in PK-12 in a story including a main character, protagonist, etc. they could make their own
story in groups and share them here.
Middle: Students can create threads by voice mic or audio file. For example, if kids are
learning Spanish they can make a thread to help them better understand meanings of
words/sentences.
High: More experienced students can make a VoiceThread with their knowledge of
using Excel, Word, or PowerPoint.
Positives and Positives: 1. All registered students within a given class can create their own
challenges of VoiceThreads to be shared with their peers
using the tool 2. Allows teachers to register students (up to 100) for free and without the
need for emails for each individual student (this requirement is problematic because
this tool can be used from PK-12 and most students don’t own an email).
3. The account provides teacher access to the entire list of registered
students so changes to usernames and passwords can easily be changed.
4.It also provides the teacher an opportunity to demonstrate to students
the importance of creating secure user names and passwords, which is an
important part of being a safe digital citizen
5. Not everyone can see this the teacher can make it private or public.
Challenges: 1. Only allows for the creation of up to three VoiceThreads. For a nominal
yearly fee (around $60), teachers can purchase a classroom account that includes
many attractive options including the creation of unlimited VoiceThreads by teachers
and students.
2. Bandwidth can be a problem if an entire class is working at the same
time.
3. May not be so easy for some students to understand how to use it
compared to others.
