COURSE TITLE: Fundamentals of Lodging Operations

COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course is an introduction to the management function. It will focus on the theory and fundamental concepts of lodging
operation. It will involve an overview approach to cover the various concepts required for an overall understanding of the
hospitality and tourism industry specifically in the accommodation area.

On the completion of the course, the student is expected to be able to do the following:

LO 1: Understand the growth and development of the Accommodation business;


LO 2: compare and contrast hotel classifications and lodging establishments;
LO 3: familiarize hotel housekeeping standards;
LO 4: understand management of lodging operation.

FINAL COURSE OUTPUT

As evidence of attaining the above learning outcomes, the student is required to do and submit the following during the
indicated dates of the term:

Throughout the course, the level of achievement will be measured using this rubric. The same rubric will be used for
self-assessment during each learning, assessment activities and consultation. This will allow students to measure how well
they are developing in the course.

CLASS POLICIES
Class Standing
Class standing comprises of deportment, leadership, and class participation. Class participation is a very important element of
the learning experience. All students should be actively engaged with this class and to contribute to class discussions and
class exercises.

Attendance
Attendance on scheduled meetings is important. Absences will only be excused with either a doctor’s note or a note from a
parent explaining why you were not in school on a previous day verified and approved by the Program Chair. Students are to
be on time for class and to stay for its duration.

Outputs
Outputs comprises 40% of the total grade it must be submitted on or before due date.
