The mathematical explanation provided by science for various phenomena always appealed to me

and led me to complete my under graduation in Telecommunications Engineering. India has

witnessed the evolution of the Internet from dial up access to the present day Wi-Fi. I have always
been intrigued by the impact of advances in networking. It is because of this fascination that I intend
to pursue an MS degree in communication networks and become a part of the ongoing revolution in
this field.

During my undergraduate studies, I regularly interacted with the faculty in my department to discuss
about my areas of interest. On the advice of Prof. Pradeep.A.S, I joined a course through ‘Solut
Corporation’ during the summer of 2010. I studied GSM and GPRS architectures and the TCP/IP
protocol suite. This laid a strong foundation for courses like Wireless communication and Computer
Networks.

Apart from what was taught in these courses in college, I also wanted to study about the methods of
securing data during transmission. Hence, I analysed in detail the AODV, DSR and ARAN
(Authenticated Routing for Ad hoc Networks) protocols, and studied the susceptibility of each to
atacks using modification, impersonation and fabrication. I then presented a solution to safeguard
packets during forwarding, link establishment and termination in two stages: A preliminary
certification and a route instantiation process to provide end to end authentication. A paper based
on this titled ‘Security Mechanisms to decrease the Vulnerability of Ad hoc routing protocols’ was
accepted by the International Journal of Computer Networks and Information Security in
October,2012.

My major project in the final year, ‘Lifetime Analysis of Cluster Model for Ad hoc Networks’ was on
wireless sensor networks. The optimal number of cluster heads for a given network was calculated
and the lifetime in the case of the two algorithms LEACH (Low energy Adaptive Clustering Hierarchy)
and CHEF (Cluster Head Election using Fuzzy Logic) were compared. CHEF was then altered by
changing the fuzzy rules and variables in the algorithm and alsoby adding an alternative source of
energy. It was found that the lifetime was increased by approximately 2.5 times its original value of
1100 rounds on an average. This was selected as the best project of the Telecommunication
Department for 2011-12. The findings have been documented in a paper submited to ‘International
Journal of Wireless Information Networks’ published by Springer.

Seeking Computer Networking/Wireless communication based profiles at campus I got recruited by

the R&D centre of Samsung Electronics, Samsung India Software Operations and underwent two-
month training in many areas. I work in the data plane of the Radio Interface Layer ofandroid ICS
devices like Samsung Galaxy S3(D2), Note2(T0) and Infinite in 4G LTE networks for US regional
carriers. This requires expertise in Linux kernel programming, knowledge of the architectures and
mechanisms used in data and VoLTE services and a detailed analysis of data exchange. The corporate
exposure that I gain over the next few months, I believe will help me a great deal in my Masters
program in ECE with a concentration on Networking.

My affinity to networks makes me keen to apply to Georgia Institute of Technology. I find the work of
Prof.Raghupathy Sivakumar in the GNAN research group to be very interesting. Given a chance, I
would like to use my knowledge of fuzzy logic, apply them to paradigms like Communication through
Silence and study the results in project ‘Proteus’. I am also extremely interested in project A 3 which
modifies middleware in order to arrive at optimal performance. I would like to study the way in
which adaptive flow control is implemented and try to improve it in the future. I would be delighted
to be among the distinguished population in the ECE department and will strive to excel in my work.I
sincerely request you to give me your full consideration.
