Journal #9
The video content captured from our video production employee was magnificent. I still
have not had the chance to meet with Drew because his flight landed over weekend, but the
video he made will be awesome content to exhibit our vision. The first video he produced shows
the construction site being cleared for phase one construction. It captures a great scene of
Rwandan people hustling around working together and with the construction company to clear
the land. I feel this shot is more effective to get people to join our mission that an advertisement
that appeals to a sadder emotion. For example, commercials of the past that have a call to action
video to help children in Africa with a depressing song like “the arms of an angel” by Sarah
Mclaughlin are not the videos and message we want to spread. We want to invigorate the
audience that by joining with us and either offering a potential skill to our team or donating
money is the best way to make sure that underserved people receive care. I wanted a focus of
mine this week to send out letters to our main business vendors. We have around ten vendors
which we do business with and spend a good amount of money with. The letter will go to
organizations that supply our printers, coffee bags, online shop account, distribution, and coffee
machines. The letter will be thanking them for their good business and inviting them to sponsor
some of the remaining rooms of the medical center. We include a price breakdown of how much
money per square foot construction costs to entice them to hopefully sponsor an entire room for
$2,500 or wing for $5,000. I prepared those and had them sent out by Wednesday, the first time I
have sent out a letter in some time! We thought a letter would be the personal touch we needed
to have a large company help finance the remaining deficit to build the medical center. I worked
in the coffee shops the rest of the week to advocate for the sweepstakes. Talking with people in
person and tabling was a good way to get people to sign up and spread the word about our work.
We even had a few people donate amounts in the hundreds! I spoke with a man from Network
for Good about possibly buying a software that helps to manage non-profits. The software does
seem to have potential for investment, and it is something that we will consider as this non-profit
continues to grow. I also scheduled a call for next week with a man who is interested in using our
non-profit as his main philanthropy at his coffee shop. Essentially outsourcing a worthy cause
and adopting our non-profit for his coffee shop. I look forward to that call and finishing up
