Objectives: The student will be able to identify objects and symbols associated with the spring season and
be able to create a butterfly drawing using an interactive iPad application.

Differentiation Strategies: Students with IEPs and those needing additional instruction will be assisted by
the Pre-K auxiliary teacher, IEPs will be followed giving extra time when needed and repeating instructions.

ENGAGEMENT:

Students will look at pictures of insects and sort them by various categories such as flight, color, and size.

Assessment – students will be monitored to make sure they have sorted correctly
EXPLORATION:

Students will explore the life cycle of a butterfly using a butterfly release kit where the growth and
development of a butterfly is observed, and the butterfly is released at the end.

Assessment – Students will be monitored to ensure that every one is observing the stages of butterfly
development
EXPLANATION:

Students will provide rhyming words to given spring time words to demonstrate understanding of the spring
time word.

Assessment – students words will be checked for accuracy

ELABORATION:

Students will create butterfly drawings using iPads and a drawing application. Students will form groups
and pick the drawing that best represents one of the actual butterflies from the kits. All drawings will be
displayed.

Assessment – drawings will be examined to ensure that all elements were included.
