BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

1.1 Introduction

According to the Concise Encyclopedia of Economics (2015), Economics is the

science which studies human behavior as a relationship between given ends and scarce

means which have alternative uses. This social science can be divided into two:

Macroeconomics and Microeconomics. This research shall discuss different economic

factors, particularly concerned with Microeconomics, from the word itself,

Microeconomics is concerned with the small picture, it studies the changes brought by

an individual’s choice is affected by different economic factors. The Factors of

Production is an economic term which describes the input needed in order to produce

finished goods and services for the consumption of the society. One of the said input is

Labor, which concerns Employment. Employment is necessary not just for a country to

produce different goods and services for the consumption of their citizens, the citizens

and individuals themselves also has a need for employment. But being satisfied with the

job that an individual has is a big factor in keeping a stable employment, job satisfaction

can be measured by checking varying measures that may dictate one’s employment

status.

Since the start of different civilizations, Employment was already present. It is

necessary and is something that goes inseparable with human nature. Employment is an

intrinsic need that provides safety and security to each individual and household. One of

Filipinos’ top concerns today are income and consumption, such factors could be met

only through stable employment (Tulao, 2015). Employment is essential in order to

answer an individual’s basic bodily needs. From a psychological point of view, it answers

3
Abraham Maslow’s theory of motivation which states that most basic needs must be met

before they become motivated to achieve higher level needs such as esteem and self-

actualization. Employment has many aspects that concern an individual, as citizens,

people are concerned about their own Security of Tenure, but at times even those who

have a stable job, is not fulfilled and convince with their own work. This study is

particularly concerned on learning how employment status affects one’s job satisfaction.

This research will be conducted in Barangay 7, Guadalupe, Lipa City, Batangas. The

said locale is one of the communities placed in the middle of lipa city. Due to its

commercialized environment, the researchers would like to know how the employment

status of employed workers significantly affects their job satisfaction.

The main purpose of the research is to inform the respondents and their

community of how employment status affects job satisfaction of employed workers in the

area. This could be a potential avenue for the community especially to employers to

improve working environments in order to engage their employees more efficiently, at

the same time it would also be beneficial for the needs of their workers as well like what

is explained in Arthur Roy’s Roy Model workers sort themselves amongst different

opportunities, given the distribution of skills and abilities because they tend to work more

efficiently in environments which they are satisfied at.

The study regarding Employment Status and its effect to Job Satisfaction by shall

commence by giving the respondents a set of adapted questionnaires that is divided into

effects of specific economic factors in order to determine which among the following are

considered to be significant or not, or if Economic factors are even significant in the

employment turnover intention of the respondents. It was mentioned above that the

locale of the study is Barangay 7, Guadalupe, Lipa City, Batangas, from which the

4
respondents shall be drawn. The respondents shall be grouped through purposive

sampling in order to have the intended participants, which are Employed individuals. The

data tallied and gathered shall be analyzed through the use of specific statistical tools

that will establish the reliability of the results.

1.2 Statement of the Problem

This study determines how various Employment Status and its effects to the job

satisfaction of Employed Workers in Barangay 7, Guadalupe, Lipa, Batangas. Such

a situation hinders its community’s potential for economic development mainly because

of the cumulative effect of said phenomena especially lack stable employment and

insufficient job opportunities. Having stated such conditions, the data to be to be studied

shall be dependent on answering the following questions:

1. What is the demographic profile of the respondent in terms of?

a. Age

b. Gender

c. Civil status

d. Educational attainment

e. Family income

2. What is the perception of respondents on Job Satisfaction in terms of?

a. general working conditions

b. use of skills and abilities

c. work activities

d. authorities

3. What is the perception of the respondents on employment status?

a. pay and promotional potential

b. location of the workplace

5
c. work opportunities

d. utilization of technology

4. What is effect of employment status on job satisfaction in terms of:

a. pay and promotional potential

b. location of the workplace

c. work opportunities

d. utilization of technology

1.3 Research Objectives

At the end of this study, researchers must obtain the following objectives:

1. The researchers must be informed about the given demographic data of the

respondents.

2. The researchers shall determine perception of respondents on Job Satisfaction

3. The researchers be knowledgeable of the perception of respondents regarding

Employment Status.

4. The researchers shall be able to understand the effect of employment status to

the job satisfaction of employed workers.

1.4 Significance of the Study

In the Philippine setting, Employment is a very timely topic especially these days

that the unemployment rate in the Philippines from January 2016 to January 2017

increased to almost 6.6% of the whole population according to the report of the National

Economic and Development Authority. This could still be subdivided into those people

who have irregular jobs, those who still try to seek for employment and those who do

not. The government had supplied the community with numerous projects regarding

employment, like livelihood programs and job openings inside and even outside the

6
country, yet a massive number of Filipinos still find it hard to stay and keep a regular and

decent job. This is mainly the reason why this research is significant not just to the

researchers themselves, but also to the citizens and the government, since this study

tries to seek for answers and reasons of how various employment status could affect

one’s job satisfaction.

The citizens of Brgy. 7, Guadalupe,Lipa City, Batangas.

The study shall support the citizens of Brgy. 7, Guadalupe, Lipa City, Batangas

by making them aware of the how diverse working conditions are, and how employment

status could affect their job satisfaction, this could be a ground for them to seek for

employment opportunities that would fit them more. Through this they can devise

individual and communal strategies in order to combat the said problem whether they

are an employer or an employee in the area.

The Local Government of Brgy. 7, Guadalupe, Lipa City, Batangas.

The National Government as well as the Local Government had laid out a

number of livelihood projects, job conventions and job openings ever since, but

researchers took notice of why many Filipinos still quit and search for another job. This

study could serve as an eye-opener for the government to enhance communal projects

geared towards employment to give a full and significant impact to the society and at the

same time maximize its human resources.

7
The Researchers themselves as well as the future researchers.

This study shall benefit the researchers themselves for it could serve as a ground

to apply all the research related skills that they had acquired in the course Practical

Research as well as Statistics and Probability. It is also a good platform for them to

observe different states of society from a scientific point of view and contribute several

solutions to ameliorate societal problems in terms of employment. This could also be for

the future researchers, as basis for future inquiry and study in the said subject

specifically on findings beyond and related to the current research topic.

3.5 Scope and Limitations of the Study

The main subjects concerned by the study are the employment status in terms of

pay and promotional potential, location of the workplace, work opportunities and

utilization of technology on the job satisfaction of employed workers. The data that will

be drawn from the respondents chosen through purposive sampling, answers shall be

investigated and scrutinized in order to establish the reasons leading to the said

occurrence. The particular phenomenon observed by the researchers is the various

work fields in Barangay 7, Guadalupe, Lipa City, Batangas that could express how

employment status could affect job satisfaction. The data that shall be used by the

researchers shall only be drawn within the encapsulated area of research in order to

arrive with reliable result and output.

There are several factors that are limited in this study that may reflect on the final

results concluded by the researchers. The experience of employees may vary

depending on the situation; such experiences will be collected in order to prove its

relation to a job satisfaction. Time allotted during the duration of the study may give

exact and relevant results only to the given time frame nevertheless the research can

8
still be used as a foundation and basis of different researches associated to the given

subject.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE AND STUDIES

This chapter will present literature reviews related to the relationship of

Employment Employment Status to the job satisfaction of Employed Workers in

Barangay 7, Guadalupe, Lipa City, Batangas. Literature and studies presented in this

chapter contains information, concepts, theories and findings that are contributory and

fitting for the selection and development of the theoretical framework of the study.

EMPLOYMENT STATUS

According to the article of Galila-Infante J., et al. (2014): “Employment status is a

standout amongst those significant variables influencing the quality of work. Labor

contributes to building a productive nation. The primary reason for those who were not

employed is family responsibility. Very evident in the study is the fact that despite

poverty, the Filipino families still value education as means to finding better employment

opportunities.”

According to the article written by Catherine Loughline, a person’s quality of work

can be associated with his or her job or employment status. There are about a third of

people who may not want to be employed in their current job status. Findings shows that

one’s employment status affects one’s quality of work done.

Being employed is an asset to marketing yourself to other people or other known

companies that will use your acquired skills to the fullest. According to the book of

Thomas Powers “Education for Careers”. It states there that “Education is very important

in having the marketability and general skills needed in finding an appropriate job”. It

10
means that having an education, diploma, or degree will be an important asset in

marketing the individual for finding the right job. It also means that it will be a lot easier

for a person that has an education or degree to find a job than person who didn’t finish

his/her education. It will help us in our study to further hone such skill in order to get the

appropriate type of job for them.

Pagador L. (2014).

According Bernal (2002) Employment status is one of the major factors

influencing the quality of work. Manpower contributes to building a productive nation.

Education plays an important role in determining employment status of an individual. It is

one of the investments that need to be recovered in due time. Historically, those who

have made this investment have received substantial economic benefit. Moreover,

education is an important factor that contributes to nation’s growth. Tertiary education

gain from universities and colleges especially has its paramount roles in developing the

society.

According to a study, Moods and Emotions can also affect the satisfaction of an

employee or even their employment status to its job anytime since both of them may

vary time to time. Remember that job satisfaction is all about how an employee thinks

and feel about his job hence a satisfied employee may feel good at his job however

some phenomena may happen during the day that may cause him to feel better or

sometimes may feel worst. (Colquitt, J. et. al., 2010).

11
JOB SATISFACTION

According to Smith & Locke: “Job satisfaction is defined, as employee’s judgment

of how well his job on a whole is satisfying his various needs. Also defined as a

pleasurable or positive state of mind resulting from appraisal of one’s job or job

experiences.” Based on the study of Herzberg (1957): “Unhappy employees, who are

motivated by fear of loss of job, will not give 100 percent of their effort for very long.

Though fear is a powerful motivator, it is also a temporary one, and also as soon as the

threat is lifted performance will decline. Job satisfaction benefits the organization

includes reduction in complaints and grievances, absenteeism, turnover, and

termination; as well as improved punctuality and worker morale. Job satisfaction is also

linked with a healthier workforce and has been found to be a good indicator of longevity.”

According to a study made by Hoppock, the degree of their satisfaction with

one’s jobs indicated relationships between job satisfaction and emotional adjustment,

religion, social status, interest, age, fatigue, size of community, and other factors. The

results suggest that the proportion of dissatisfied workers is probably less than a third.

Satisfaction is tentatively defined; its measurement and theoretical implications are

considered.

According to the study conducted by Nezzam Luddy (2005). It states there that

“Facet satisfaction refers to the tendency for an employee to be more or less satisfied

with various facets or aspects of the job” (Johns, 1988). It means that the employee may

be satisfied or not satisfied is through the job itself, if the job is challenging, tiring, and

many more. Through this study we can determine if the respondents are satisfied or not

satisfied with their current jobs. Because of the various aspects that the job contains like

12
the hazardous work environment, dirty workplace, and bad co-workers. It can help us

determine, whether or not the person will be satisfied with his/her respective jobs.

Luddy N. (2005).

According to (Hoffman-Miller, 2013) Job satisfaction is the extent to which one is

happy with their job hence an employee’s willingness to perform at an optimum level.

There is no exact definition on what job satisfaction is but the company need to consider

the importance of the work. Job satisfaction for the author specifically means Positive

and favorable attitudes towards the job indicate job satisfaction. While for (Ravari , 2011)

look at job satisfaction as a multi-dimensional concept. Some ways of the company or

even the managers is they keep their employees motivated with their work. There are

different motivations that are given because every employee has a different attitude.

According to a study, Job satisfaction is an emotional state wherein a worker is delightful

from his job appraisals and experiences. In short, job satisfaction refers to how you feel

and think about your job. Moreover, employees who are highly satisfied with their work

tend to feel positive and are willing to take part on their duties and activities. On the

other hand, those employees who have low satisfaction have the opposite feelings with

their job. The reason why some employees are more satisfied than the others is that in

general employees are likely to be satisfied when their job grants things that they value.

(Colquitt, J. et. al., 2010).

RELATIONSHIP OF EMPLOYMENT STATUS AND JOB SATISFACTION

According to Huang YH., et al. (2003): “The relationship between employment

status and job satisfaction, with the focus on the moderating roles of perceived injury risk

13
and injury incidence. It shows that the level of job satisfaction for full-time workers was

about the same regardless of the level of injury risk they perceived. In contrast, job

satisfaction of part-time workers was significantly higher when they perceived low injury

risk rather than high injury risk.

John Sutherland’s study focused on the relationship of one’s Job Satisfaction by

his/her Employment status which he classified in three common job aspects or

situations. Findings shows that for the waged worker, there is a uniformly positive and

predominantly statistically significant correlation between an individual's job satisfaction

overall and satisfaction with the ten job aspects.

According to (Sutherland, 2013) Job satisfaction and employment status has

differences, with the latter tending to be more likely to be satisfied. Job satisfaction is an

extremely complex concept that is influenced by different factors, or more accurately by

a group of factors that often have interwoven impact. As a result, studies that have dealt

with the relationship between job satisfaction and other concepts have often given

inconsistent results, especially in the case of the analysis of the relations between job

satisfaction and organisational performance. It could be stated that job satisfaction more

strongly determines organisational performance than organisational performance

determines job satisfaction.

According to a research study entitled as “Job Satisfaction and Performance

Level of Employees of Ajinomoto Philippines Corporation – Lucena Branch” conducted

by (Angeles, V. et. al., 2015) focused basically on the level and significance of

performance and job satisfaction to work and working area. It discussed the needs of

employees that influenced their job satisfaction and performance level or their

14
employment status. The study has the following findings: the study indicates that there is

a significant relationship between the factors of job satisfaction and performance level or

their employment status. The employees are satisfied on how they are managed by their

management, and they also have good rating in accordance to their job performance.

According to the study Hytti, Ulla & Kautonen, Teemu & Akola, Elisa (2013).

Entitled “Determinants of job satisfaction for salaried and self-employed professionals in

Finland”. It states there that “employment status does not explain job satisfaction when

the five work characteristics are added to the structural model.” It means that the

employment status does not explain job satisfaction because of the five work

characteristics that was added to the structural model of the study. So meaning that the

work characteristics does not affect the relationship of employment status and job

satisfaction. It helps us further understand that work characteristics doesn’t affect the

relationship of job satisfaction and employment status to our study.

SYNTHESIS

The review of conceptual literature and studies has provided different sources to

elaborate the relationship of employment status to one’s job satisfaction. The review

exposes the definition, factors and information of one’s current Employment Status

which raises awareness about the different implications that result from the given

determinants. It also gives a more in depth understanding about the proposed research

study including the background of the study and its significance.

One’s employment status play a significant effect in being a determinant in one’s

job satisfaction. In the aforementioned sources it was said that Job Satisfaction intention

15
of an individual could be affected by different situations in one’s employment status.

Self-Selection is inherent to human nature; people do prefer to find a job that is

convenient for one in all aspects not just financial convenience for such implications

could lead to job satisfaction or dissatisfaction. Although the research is limited to one’s

employment status alone, job satisfaction of individuals on a larger scope is also

affected by organizational factors such as working environment, organizational support

and many more.

RESEARCH FRAMEWORK

3.1 Conceptual Literature

Employment Status Job Satisfaction or Job

Dissatisfaction

Pay and Promotional

Potential
Location of Work Place
Work Opportunities
Utilization of Technology

In the above figure, the researchers would like to explicitly explain if there are

any significant effect of Employment status in terms of Pay and Promotional Potential,

Location of Workplace, Work opportunities and utilization of Technology to the Job

satisfaction of an employed worker.

If a country’s GDP is relatively high, there is large amounts of trades that could

open various job opportunities Trade can also be a catalyst for greater efficiency and

productivity. This is because companies have access to a wider range of high-quality,

affordable inputs. They also have access to technology and know-how they could not

obtain in a closed economy. Access to technology and quality inputs can boost

innovation and creativity in the workplace. Moreover, competition in the marketplace can

be a powerful stimulus to companies seeking new ways of making things better and

more cheaply. An infusion of new ideas from other countries can make companies more

17
productive. For example, if a country has a national job growth for a certain year, job and

employment opportunities are flourishing, this could lead to the consideration of an

individual to look for better job opportunities that hold advantageous chances for one’s

career.

The presence of employment opportunities can be determined by its

geographical setting; the geographical setting of a certain place possesses key

characteristics which can classify as either rural or urban. Both rural and urban

communities have varying aspects which dictate the economic status quo in the area.

Urban communities, like Barangay 7, Guadalupe, Lipa City, Batangas, are more often

than not wealthy when it comes to the presence of employment opportunities widely due

to the existence of industrialization and capitalism in these kinds of communities. On the

other hand, rural areas are the exact contradiction mainly because the lack of

industrialization, capitalism and general economic activity, and this adversely influences

the amount of opportunities available for the labor force. Employment is necessary as

economic entities of the society, through employment individuals can satisfy their

material needs through financial rewards.

Different companies and businesses may give varying financial rewards to their

employees that is why this factor is taken into great consideration especially for

individuals who need to provide the daily needs of their respective families. This could

also lead to the changes in inflation rate. Inflation rate is the purchasing power of a

specific currency, so if a person sustains a job for a long period of time and gets almost

the same amount of financial reward, and inflation in the economy goes up, the

purchasing power of his money decreases, it means that the commodities may just

increase in price while the money he still has on hand, does not change. This could lead

18
to the consideration of other job opportunities that would affect his employment turnover

intention.

Technological advances in different industries also play a role in economic

turnover intention of an individual. The application of technology in various fields has

different effects to the employee turnover of an individual, one may opt to transfer to

another employer due to a more efficient technological application that would make

workload easier, it could also be possible that one might feel inferior because of the lack

of knowledge in the application of basic technological equipment such as the use of

different computer software.

3.4 Operational Definition of Terms

Economics- It studies how individuals, businesses, governments and nations make

choices on allocating resources to satisfy their wants and needs, and tries to determine

how these groups should organize and coordinate effort in order to achieve maximum

output.

Economic Factors- are set of principles related to economics, as a field of study, that

influences the occurrence of employment turnover, in relation to the context of the study.

Employment – Is a relationship between two parties, an individual called an employee

who works for an employer (It may be a corporation, organization, or even a

cooperative) wherein the employee renders his or her service in exchange of a certain

amount of compensation that may be received based on hourly wages or may depend

on a contract of employment.

Job Satisfaction- Contentment (or lack of it) arising out of interplay of employee's

positive and negative feelings toward his or her work.

Labor Force- Labor force is composed of those from 15 years old and above who are

fully employed, partially employed or looking for work

21
Underemployment- is a phenomenon when a highly skilled individual is working in a low-

paying job or low skill jobs.

is primarily designed for Employed workers, from this researcher could gather accurate

and specific information; this data shall be treated through a statistical tool that will

further enhance the results of the study.

22
3.7 Respondents of the Study

Since the given research topic deals with employment status and job satisfaction

the respondents are required to be employed workers. The respondents will be drawn

from Barangay 7, Guadalupe, Lipa City, Batangas, a sample shall then be selected

which should consist of Employed Workers in the area.

3.8 Locale of the Study

The chosen locale of the study is Barangay 7, Guadalupe, Lipa City, Batangas.

The said community is characterized as a commercialized area at the heart of Lipa City.

Since Employment Status could also indicate the possible hindrances of stable job

opportunities, the study could also give a ground for different communal projects that will

address various employment needs of the citizens of Barangay 7, Guadalupe.

3.9 Research Tools and Instruments

The data gathering procedure shall initially take place within the given

questionnaires and the chosen respondents of the given population drawn from

purposive sampling, all respondents shall honestly answer the given document based on

their own experience and perception, this shall be returned to the researcher ones it is

completed. The second procedure shall be the tallying of answers, for example: how

many people answered the first choice for the first question. Once tallying is concluded,

the researchers shall seek the help of a statistician and inquire for the specific statistical

treatment to be used in order to know if the hypothesis is valid or not.

23
Results from the statistical treatment shall be tabulated for better analyzation of

the researchers, and the final step shall be summarization wherein the proponents of the

study shall condense and outline the findings of the research based on the results of the

statistical treatment. The questionnaire that shall be utilized is an adapted questionnaire,

where specific parts shall be divided, and each part is designated to determine how

specific economic factors affect the employment turnover intention of employed

individuals. Likert scale is applied in the given questionnaires which mean that the close

ended questionnaires can be answered by choosing the most accurate answer

depending on the given range of answers and not with just a simple yes or no.

3.10 Data Gathering Procedure

The data gathering procedure shall initially take place within the given

questionnaires and the chosen respondents of the given population drawn from

purposive sampling, all respondents shall honestly answer the given document based on

their own experience and perception, this shall be returned to the researcher ones it is

Chapter 4

DATA ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION

This chapter presents the findings based on the data gathered. It was designed
to study the effects of employment status to the job satisfaction of employed workers in
Barangay 7, Guadalupe, Lipa City, Batangas. Relative date was presented and analyzed
using descriptive and inferential statistics. A total of Thirty-four questionnaire were
retrieved from 40 respondents.

4.1 Demographic Profile

Table 1. Age

The table above shows that most of the employed workers are in the age group

of early adulthood and midlife, with a frequency of 24 and 10 respectively. As purported

in the book of Tulao (2015) entitled “Understanding Economics in the Philippines

Setting” the labor force of the country is those age 15 and above who are looking for a

job, or has a regular job, this is also implied in the given age group in the table.

26
Table 2. Gender

The table above shows that the data gathered were from 24 male respondents

and 10 female respondents.

Table 3. Civil Status

The given table shows that most of the employed workers who are respondents

of the study are single individuals, from the study of Mehay & Browman (2005) entitled

“Marital Status and Productivity: Evidence from Personnel Data” is was stated that

compared with single individuals, married individuals receive significantly higher

performance ratings and are more likely to be promoted.

Table 4. Educational Attainment

27
In the given table majority of the respondents are graduates holding a masters or

doctorate degree. Due to increased stiff competition among potential employees and the

global economic crisis, job searching has become an uphill task for many people during

recent years. A study conducted in 2015 by Times Higher Education revealed that there

has been a tremendous increase in the number of master’s courses being taught. The

findings also showed that employers are adding more value to postgraduates.

Table 5. Family Income

Shown in the table below that there is an equal frequency between the families

who has an annual family income of 61,999-191,000. According to the Economic Policy

Institute (2005) the income a family needs to secure safe and decent-yet-modest living

standards in the community in which it resides offer a broader measure of economic

welfare.

4.2 The perception of respondents on Job Satisfaction in terms of:

Table 6. General Working Conditions

28
In the table above, the majority of the respondents strongly agree that they are

satisfied with their general working conditions like the amount of work time, time

flexibility and relationship with co-workers. As stated in the study “Creating a Positive

Working Environment” by Scott Huntington (2013), Positive work environments are

essential for workers' mental and physical well-being, but they aren't created by

accident. Good working conditions arise from values that the company views as

important to its mission, such as ensuring a manageable workload, and promoting two-

way communication through open office spaces and regular team meetings. Workers are

also entitled to a safe, hazard-free environment.

Table 7. Use of skills and abilities

In the table above, it is indicated that majority of the respondents strongly agree

that their skills and abilities are utilized efficiently in their workplace. According to the

study “Genuine under-utilization of skills amongst the over Qualified” by Francis Green

last 2009, workers who apply their own competencies such as abilities that they excel at

tend to work more efficiently and has greater chances to stay in the current job that they

are employed at.

29
Table 8. Work Activities

The given table shows that majority of the respondents agree that they are

satisfied with the variety of job responsibilities and their independence associated with

their own work roles. Based on the study “Embracing employee freedom in the

workplace” by Erin Carson (2014), employees who are given authority in their own work

have higher self-confidence and are more likely to be satisfied with their working

environment.

Table 9. Authorities

The given table shows that majority of the respondents agree that they are

satisfied with the variety of job responsibilities and their independence associated with

their own work roles. Based on the study “The Key to happiness at work” by Belle

Cooper (2016), employees who are given authority in their own work have higher self-

confidence and are more likely to be satisfied with their working environment.

30
4.3 Perception of the respondents on Employment status in terms of:

Table 10. Pay and Promotional Potential

Based on the figure, majority of the are satisfied with their pay and

promotional potential according to the study of Minnette & Ryan (2004) entitled

“The Importance of Pay in Employee Motivation: Discrepancies Between What People

say and what they Do”, pay is not equally important in all situations or to all individuals,

and identify circumstances under which pay is likely to be more (or less) important to

employees.

Table 11. Location of Workplace

As stated in the table above, most respondents agree that they are satisfied with

the location of their workplace in terms of accessibility in a study “Understanding the

effect of job accessibility on labor market outcomes” by Jangik Jin(2017), survey has

revealed that job location is the most important factor affecting why UK workers stay in

31
their current job role. The study found that 57% of respondents put more value on where

they work as opposed to how much they earn (52%) and job security (33%).

Table 12. Work Opportunities

In the given table, majority of the respondents agree that despite being able to

land their own job they are still open to new job opportunities. According to Christiane

Nieb on his article about Openness to experience as a predictor of Upward job changes

(2015), Job openings and recruitments brought by economic changes open various job

opportunities that may lead to high turnover rate.

Table 13. Utilization of Technology

On the given table, it states that most of the respondents agree that they are

satisfied with the utilization of technology in their respective workplace. In the study

conducted by Matt Straz in his article about “Ways to use Technology in the workplace

32
to motivate employees (2013)” it was said that the application of technology in

workplaces increases the self-confidence of individual workers.

4.4 Effect of Employment status on Job satisfaction in terms of:

Table 14. Pay and Promotional Potential

The given table above shows that Employment status in terms of Pay and Promotional

Potential has a significant effect on job satisfaction. According to a study entitled “Impact

of Compensation Benefits on Job Satisfaction”, conducted by Calvin

Mzwenhlanhla(2017), Pay and Promotional Potential is one motivating factor when it

comes to a worker’s job satisfaction.

33
Table 15. Location of Workplace

As shown in the table the Employment status in terms of Location of Workplace

has a significant effect to the Job Satisfaction of employees. According to an article

entitled “Job Accessibility as a Performance Indicator: An Analysis of Trends and Their

Social Policy Implications in the San Francisco Bay Area” by Robert Cervero(2004) the

accessibility of various workplaces is now given more importance that the salary

received for the work done.

Table 16. Work Opportunities

34
The given table states that Employment status in terms of Work Opportunities

has no significant effect to one’s job satisfaction. As purported in the study “Employee

Job Satisfaction and Engagement: The Doors of Opportunity Are Open” by Raziq(2017),

work opportunities does not affect job satisfaction at times, this is because current

employers try to adapt to different economic changes in order for them to retain their

employees and decrease employee turnover.

Table 17. Utilization of Technology

As seen in the table, Employment status in terms of utilization of technology has

a significant effect to the job satisfaction of employed workers. Based on the study “The

effects of applying information technology on job empowerment dimensions" by Sima

Ajami(2014), Companies who integrate technology in their workplace, have more

confidence and motivated workers since technology aid them in doing their tasks.

35
Chapter 5

Summary of Findings, Conclusion and Recommendation

5.1 Summary of Findings

To summarize the findings, most of the employed workers who have participated

as respondents of this study are mostly in their early adulthood and midlife, which as

expected because according to Tulao (2015), the labor force of an economy starts at the

age of fifteen, and actively plays at the age of 21. Most of the respondents are satisfied

when it comes to their perception of Job Satisfaction which includes: General Working

conditions, Use of abilities and skills and work activities, as well as their perception to

Employment Status which is consists of the following: Pay and Promotional Potential,

Location of the Workplace, Work opportunities and Utilization of Technology. Through

the Multiple Regression analysis, it was also synthesized that out of the four given

aspects of Employment Status, Work opportunities is the only one who does not have a

significant effect to Job Satisfaction as supported by Raquiz (2017) who stated in his

study that work opportunities do not affect job satisfaction at times, this is because

current employers try to adapt to different economic changes in order for them to retain

their employees and decrease employee turnover. The details of the results were

presented in the previous chapter together with the supporting studies.

5.2 Conclusion

1. With these findings, 3 out of 4 alternative hypotheses shall be accepted and

there is sufficient evidence to support the following:

Ha1: Employment Status in terms of Pay and Promotional Potential has a significant

effect on the job satisfaction of employed workers in Barangay 7, Guadalupe, Lipa City,

Batangas.

36
Ha2: Employment Status in terms of Location of Workplace has a significant effect on

the job satisfaction of employed workers in Barangay 7, Guadalupe, Lipa City, Batangas.

Ha4: Employment Status in terms of Utilization of Technology has a significant effect on

the job satisfaction of employed workers in Barangay 7, Guadalupe, Lipa City, Batangas.

2. And one null hypothesis shall be accepted because there is no sufficient evidence to

Ha3:

Ho3: Employment Status in terms of Work Opportunities has no significant effect on the

job satisfaction of employed workers in Barangay 7, Guadalupe, Lipa City, Batangas.

5.3 Recommendations

1. The study is recommended to be used as a reference for different researchers

who are concerned in the same field of knowledge. Through this they can further

improve the results by elongating the time frame given to the study and analyze

of various economic activities may change the results.

2. The study is recommended to be tested in different locals, in order to see if there

is a general pattern between the given aspects of Employment Status and its

effects to Job Satisfaction. Through this results may also be compared and

contrasted that will help in further studies and understanding.

3. The study is recommended to be checked by the local government since it could

be a ground for them to devise communal projects that is directly geared towards

answering the aspects which employees in their respective places find it hard to

37
cope up. With this, they can help individual workers in improving their own

employment status.
