WRITING YOUR NARRATIVE


Use the table below to help ensure your narrative meets the criteria. You can complete
the sheet by hand or on Word but it must be displayed on your website for marking!
Clearly label EQUILIBRIUM, DISEQUILIBRIUM and RESOLUTION throughout your
narrative.
You may decide to use a fragmented or distorted timeline, or show the narrative in
chronological order. For now, focus on clarity, and ensuring that your narrative provides
an interesting and relevant interpretation of the lyrics!

LYRICS (add these to the table). NARRATIVE


“I don’t think she understands the
sacrifices I have made” The singer is in a lot of pain and his “lover” doesn’t seem to
understand that he is the one that has been controlled in the
one-sided relationship. Including: Abuse of personal income,
selfishness, ignorance etc. (Equilibrium)

“I’m a take control of this The singer then wants to change this relationship around to
relationship” try and make it fair, making her regret her past actions
(Recognition/Attempts)

“Helplessness…Chew me up and
spit me out” The singer goes through both verbal and physical abuse from
his “lover”, which finally makes the singer snap
(Disequilibrium)

“But tonight I’m serving you with


papers, I’m divorcing you” The singer has had enough with the relationship as he saw
how “returning the favour” didn’t work out for him, so he
finally decides to divorce her. (Resolution)

“I’m addicted, to the pain, the


stress, the drama…. But this time The singer seemed to be addicted to the abuse despite hating
I a ain’t changing my mind, I’m it, he proceeds to try to figure out why it was causing him so
climbing out the abyss” much pain and eventually he was able to shake it off and
realise that it’s a major problem. (Recognition)

“F**k you hip-hop, I’m leaving The singer looks back on how hip-hop as a whole almost
you, my life sentence is served, destroyed his life, he compares the time being with his
b***h” “lover” to the time spent in prison. As he turns his back on
the problems and negatives of the hip-hop world, he walks
away when, in fact he is still on the run. (Resolution)
