Art can be seen in all living and nonliving things. I find it fascinating that anywhere we

look, from our computers to the oceans, every medium has its own unique purpose. Math and

science are usually what comes to mind when people think of significant topics of interest; many

people do not think of art as an important or fascinating topic.

Art is a natural relaxer that many people use, from painting, or music, to running on a

treadmill, art is incorporated. Before the treadmill could be used, it was an idea that someone

pictured and designed around their vision. Everything that is manufactured came from an idea

and most likely was sketched out on blueprints. From the skyscrapers located in the Big Apple,

to the modern homes in Bradford, Pennsylvania, art has created the environment that we live in.

Art unites people across the world; for example, the Statue of Liberty herself was given to us

from France to honor the friendship that was created during the American Revolution. The

Roman Goddess of Liberty was built to symbolize freedom and enlightenment. In detail, her

media is mostly copper and steel; the seven spikes on her crown represent the seven seas, and her

torch lights a path to freedom. She is a breathtaking vision of art that was created by one man’s

vision.

Art captivates me because of how much it has been used throughout history. The art that

can be found in pyramids, caves, and temples has given us an insight into what happened

millions of years ago. The history from the age of dinosaurs and Egyptian times has been told

using art. Without those historic paintings and sculptures, we may not understand or even know

about what happened and how people evolved and lived before history was written down in

books. For example, during the age of dinosaurs, there were cave paintings that showed us what

humans did to survive during that time period. They used paintings as their own way to keep

records and tell the story of their lives, both good and bad. Another form of art were

hieroglyphics; they were symbols that the ancient Egyptians used to communicate. Again, this

communication gave us an insight into their lives and the hardships they faced. Art was one of

the first ways that people were able to communicate.

When I want to expand my mind about art, I usually turn to the people around me, the

internet, or a person with a high knowledge of art mediums. My art teacher is one of those people

that I can turn to. She is helpful when it comes to the questions that I have or if I need inspiration

for my own art. She has a collection of books in her classroom that have history about famous

artists and how certain mediums can be used. I have been inspired by of the artists found in these

books. Art is all around us, it inspires us; gives us a way to express our creativity, and allows us

to tell our own story.
