ENVIRONMENTAL
SANITATION
CAUSES, IMPACTS, BENEFITS
Causes of Poor Sanitation
Poverty
Environmental problems cause more
suffering among the poor: overcrowded
urban areas increase the risk of disease.

Lack of Clean Water Supply

Lack of access to safe, clean drinking-
water and basic sanitation, as well as poor
hygiene cause nearly 90% of all deaths
from diarrhea.

Polluted Riverbanks
The worsening water quality is related to
incidence of water-borne diseases, and is
likely to increase the negative impact of
floods on human health.

Poor Governance
Local authorities must be proactive in
terms of addressing concerns regarding
poor sanitation through effective legal
resolutions.
Impacts of Environmental Sanitation and

Waste Management on Health

"The environment can directly and indirectly impact

on our health and wellbeing. Environmental health
examines the interaction between the environment
and our health. Environmental health refers to
aspects of human health (including quality of life)
that are determined by physical, chemical,
biological, social and psychosocial factors in the
environment. We need safe, healthy and supportive
environments for good health. The environment in
which we live is a major determinant of our health
and wellbeing."
Methods and Importance of

Waste Management

Saving Natural Resources

We should think to recycle paper products so that there
is no need of cutting new trees. It is also quite possible
to reuse plastic and metal items. Some countries have
established certain sites where people can bring and
sell old newspapers, metal items, or glass.

Producing Energy
By recycling something, we save energy because more
energy is usually needed to produce a new item. For
example, it is possible to get energy from recycling the
waste. In Mukesh Ambani’s house, garbage is used to
create electricity.

Reducing Pollution
Recycling is a one of the most powerful tools to save
nature and humanity. Making more people aware is a
contribution in a better future. The more people start to
manage their waste, the better planet we will have to
live in.

Recycling Rubbish
Rubbish is a big problem for aquatic life too. A lot of
rubbish is thrown away into the sea and ocean. There
are large areas of waste called “waste islands,” which
are made of rubbish that has been accumulated in one
place. Recycling rubbish is important for nature and
humanity.
