Hunman Migration

Illegal immigration was not an issue in the early years of the United State because there were

few laws controlling the borders. Immigrants that came from another country were free to come

to America and start a new life. People describe four waves of immigration controlling the

Migrant workers have always played an important role in the US economy. They should not be

treated as undeserving individuals. Most of them are qualified workers who pay taxes and

contribute to America.

With 3.5 million people from all over the world. The first people were on this great piece of

land we call the United State was the Native American thus that means that the people of today

can be considered an immigrant because people besides the native American wasn't the first

group of people that settle on this land.

Historians describe four waves of immigration that happen in America. The first being the

colonists who settled in New England in the 1600s and 1700s and the second one which

happened between the 1820 and 1870 consisted of most of northern and western European and

mostly included many Chinese arriving between 1880 and 1920. The third wave of immigrant

hailed mostly from northern and western Europe. During the fourth wave of immigration
Lindsey 2

happening in 1965 and continuing to the present the number of newcomers from Asia and the

west indies has increased.

The U.S Mexico border was an open border where individuals could cross at will. Even though it

was illegal to cross between official ports of entry. The United State government had neither the

money nor the desire to guard the border. The border was limited to a few at official ports of

entry and no one patrolled the line between them.

The issue of illegal immigration is often about numbers of an illegal immigrant who entered the

country each. However, behind each number is a human being with a particular story. Each

immigrant has some type of back story of why they want to leave their country to enter a new

one. Some; have to found a family member other leave to escape a crime that they haven't done.

The British colonial came to the east coast and meet the native American tribe called the Zuni.

In 30 plus years, the British soldier killed off the native American village leader and killed off

most of their men. then they enslave their women and kids. By doing that they are able to take

over their land and immigrant it as well. So in today time, everyone is a mixture of something

because people ancestors took over other races theory and enslave them and mix races with

them.

What is human migration? It is the movement of a person or a group of people to settle in a new

location. Migration can be considered many things temporal, voluntary, or forced. There are two

types of migration. Immigration is people coming from another country to settle inside that new

country and Emigration is people leaving their home country and never going back.

Human is like a social animal. Animals are territorial about their land. Without no border control,

it would be a mess of migration and which would lead to less job for the American people the is

already here. When the American people can't find any job because of the immigrants that
Lindsey 3

migrate here from other countries the American people are going to start complaining about

immigrants is taking all of the jobs that were already here for the American people.

Most illegal immigrants come to America to find work that pays more than they can make in

their home countries. Whether they come from Mexico, Africa, or China, immigrants typically

risk the hazards of crossing the border illegally mainly because they seek to escape poverty in

their homeland. Illegal immigrants come here for the same reason legal immigrant do and the is

to make a better life for themselves and their families.

Migrants that come to America are coming because they want to escape the low wages that they

are making in their country. United State wages are higher than most wages around the world.

People are moving to more developed countries will often find that the same work they were

doing at home is rewarded higher wages in a new area.

Immigrant take job that US citizens don't want to do.

They are cleaners, minders for old people, night watchmen, or working in factories and shop.

Only they are prepared to do these job witch, for the standard of living of the country are poorly

paid but not from their point of view. For the immigrant worker, the low wages are a fortune.

While most illegal immigrants come to America to work in low skill jobs, some achieve a greater

level of success. Some even start their own business. Take Jorge Fierro for an example. Crossing

the U.S Mexico border illegally in 1985 Fiero went to Wyoming and then to Utah where he

studied English and worked as a dishwasher.

Some years past then he decides to move to America. He bought a can of beans and was so

disappointed by the quality that he decided to start his own business selling Mexican style beans.

In 1997 having gained legal status Fierro began preparing and selling beans at the Salt Lake City
Lindsey 4

Farmers Market. One year later with the help of a thousand loan, he opens a small market of his

own.

Despite all the debates over the economic and benefits of illegal immigrants one fact remain the

same. Illegal immigrants live and work in America and more continue to arrive every day. This

situation keeps on occurring because illegal immigration posed a major threat to the economic

survival of the nation. The fact that millions of illegal immigrant are permitted to live and work

in the United State seems proof that they provide benefits for the country

Without Illegal immigrant workers, productivity and economic growth would be slower. There

would be fewer jobs for skilled labor. American earning would be reduced and some service that

is thriving now will fall. While others would be at risk of collapsing. By filling the unskilled

labor gap illegal immigrant contributes to keeping the U.S economy productive.

Expert estimate that seven million of the approximately eleven million illegal immigrants in the

United State hold jobs of some sort often as unskilled laborers. Though pay for these jobs is low

by American standards it represents a significant amount of money for workers from poor

countries. People suggest that a continued supply of illegal immigrants is essential to maintain

the success of America economy especially in agriculture and other industries that rely on

unskilled labor.

Benefiting immigrant and employs illegal immigration is also believed to be essential to the

American economy. The job illegal immigrants do are crucial and some expert contend that it is

equally critical that these jobs be done for low wages. According to Llewellyn Howell, professor

of international management low wages are especially important in order America agricultural

sector vital and competitive.

Lindsey 5

If the government decide to remove illegal immigrants from the workforce would have a

devastating effect on the nation's financial health. Some experts predict without illegal immigrant

labor employers would be forced to comply with laws regulating the workplace. They would

have to pay higher wages. To pay these higher wages they would have to eliminate jobs and raise

their prices for products.

Migration is not a new thing that just now happening. It has been writing down in history that

people have a move from one country to inhabit new areas. Take the British as an example, They

were located northern, eastern and western hemispheres and then they migrated to America to

inhabit it.

Every time a group of people migrates to a new place it is not all their choice to move. { For well

over 300 years, European countries forced Africans onto slave ships and transported them across

the Atlantic Ocean}. This would be considered of Push Factor because the African slave was

forced from their homeland to migrate to America.

Today’s immigration reasons are the same as immigrants from 100 years ago. Migrant years ago

can to America looking for a job and escaping from diseases. Recent issues in the world have to

lead to people moving from land to land for different reason immigration is the Migration is the

movement of persons into another country or land where they intend to settle.

Human Migration happens due to several reasons including environmental reasons, natural

disaster, poverty, political or personal choice to change the surrounding. Immigrants in a country

are group into two group temporary and permanent immigrants. Temporary immigrants intend to

stay for a given period and then go back, while permanent immigrants want to establish their

permanent residence in the new country and later acquire that country’s citizenship.
Lindsey 6

The push and pull factors are those that drive people away from a place also draw people to a

new place for good or bad reasons. Push factors are most harmful it makes a person want to

move. A certain person or group of people leave one country for another to escape from the

threat of disorder from inside the country.

Migrant are motivated to leave their former countries of citizenship, or habitual residence, for a

variety of reasons, including a lack of local access to resources, a desire for economic prosperity.

Those reasons are call push factor. Push Factor can cause harm to the migrant who is staying in

their country. The only undevelopment country has push factor because the country has limited

resources and their economic system is weak. What that means is that the government doesn't

have the means to provide for their people and that can lead to a push factor.

A push factor is a harmful act that makes a person want to leave which can force a person from

one country to seek refuge in another. These reasons which drive people to leave their homes can

include a substandard level of living, food, land or job scarcity, famine, drought or even natural

disasters.

When this happens it can force a person to leave. If they do not choose to leave they will suffer

emotionally or physically painful. The Great Potato Famine pushed thousands of Irish families to

immigrate to the United States in Brooklyn to avoid starvation and this can relate to some issues

that we have today.

Take the Isis crisis happening in the middle east for an example. The United State army has been

fighting with Isis for years now and harmless people are getting caught in the crossfire. CNN

said {As the battle for the last remaining ISIS enclave in eastern Syria stretches on and ISIS

fighters dig in, remaining civilians stream out of the village in groups. CNN's Ben Wedeman

reports} and this can tell us first hand that innocent people is getting hurt for no reason. This is a
Lindsey 7

major push factor because they getting hurt in a war that they didn't even start of want to be part

of it.

The battle between ISIS and the United State Army has taken innocent lives for something the

people the reside inside the country didn't even started. People are migrating from Iraq because

the migrate family and children are getting hit from the crossfire between the two armies.

Innocent kids or getting killed due to a war that the kid's parents did not start. A girl who left

Britain to join the Islamic State started to speak out of what isis has been doing. In the article, the

women told the reporter The Manchester Arena attack in May 2017 killed 22 people after a

suicide bomber detonated a device packed with shrapnel at the end of a pop concert. With her

saying that it is determined that innocent people have been attacked for no reason and at some

point, they will get tired of it and migrate to the countries outside of the Iraq borders.

Religious discrimination is treating a person or group differently because of the beliefs they hold

about a religion. This problem is related to religious persecution and it is the most extreme forms

of which would include instances in which people have been executed for their beliefs. A few

amounts of people around the world still believe that one religious group is above other religion.

Religious persecution has occurred in the historical era. During the 18th century, some groups

were nearly universally persecuted for their views about religion such as atheist and jews, gay

men, communist, and political dissenter. During the world war, two Nazi army and local

collaborators murdered over six million Jews. People in Germany wanted a genocide toward

Jews during the 18th century and after the war, the Jewish community decides to migrate to

different area around the world to escape from religious discrimination.

When people lose their jobs during recessions or a depression the people who work for the

economy go through a long term unemployed and they often lose their skills. This can hurt their
Lindsey 8

ability to find a job. When a person loses their skill for a particular job they were working their

boss wouldn't hire them back because they lost that skill so they hire the next person that comes

along to take their spot. This can lead to the person who didn't get their job back to migrate to a

new area because they can't provide for his or her family.

Human migration can also come from famine. Famine is an extreme scarcity of food. The top

four countries that are going through a shortage of food in Yemen, Nigeria, South Sudan, and

Somalia. These countries are going through a shortage of food and this can lead a major push

factor. When a country cannot provide food for their people it can make the people move out of

the country.

Take this for an example, let say a low class working father can provide food for his family

because the country has a limited amount of food in his country because the country is going

through famine and one of his kid starved to death. The father sees that the government is not

taking a look at the major problem so he takes his family to a new country that offers a better life

for him and his family.

A person doesn't always have to leave just because of a push factor. A particular country

might have something that interest the migrate to move from their country and you can call this a

pull factor. When a migrate leave their homeland because of a pull factor it is not because of a

war of famine is happening inside of their country it is happening because the migrate see

something in that other country that his or her country no providing for them.

Some commentators argue the philosophy of multiculturalism has made it easier for an

illegal immigrant to resist assimilation and retrain their native culture. Most specifically they cite

public policies and educational practice that enable immigrant to retain their language rather than

adopt English.
Lindsey 9

Americanization has given way to insidious multiculturalism. Instead of Americanization, we

offer bilingual education, racial and ethnic quotas, and education that focuses not on American

heroes and culture. We print multilingual ballot and driver license test. School and hospital have

government funded make the taxpayer funded translator.

An immigrant is part of the American story. It would be misleading to say that immigrant has

always been welcome to the United State as long the welling to take up the American way of

life. Stated by Walter Ewing a senior researcher at the immigration policy “ Public and political

attitudes toward immigrant have always been contradictory and sometimes hostile”.Despite their

differences their poor English skills and foreign beliefs and customs they try their hardest to

adapt to a new way of life only because they want to better themselves or even for his or her

family.

The main purpose of my survey is to communicate with the student respondents about

immigration and their personal opinion on it. This allows me to dig deeper into my research

paper and give me some incite on my topics and what I should decouise about in my paper.

My survey set place in an African American community and most of the people who took the

survey were mostly agree for immigration. One question is that Do you think that the United

State border should be on that any immigrant can connect in. So 38 percent say the border should

be open sometime, 25 percent said usually, and 19 percent says that the border should be open

always. The candidate who took this part of the survey had a different opinion of what the

government should do about controlling the border.

During the survey, I also ask a question about the candidate opinion on human migration and the

feedback was mostly positive and some were negative. A candidate reply with this My “opinion

on migration is that more people should be allowed in this country for better opportunities and a
Lindsey 10

better life them and their families” and so this person saw how a migrant come from poverty,

war, or famine and trying to escape from it. The other candidate had mostly negative feedback on

my questions. This respondent said “ I believe we shouldn’t let people migrate over to us

because it causes problems and makes us overpopulated” So this person have a negative

viewpoint on immigration and with these two opposing sides can lead to a major debate in the

government.

This survey result was helpful to me because it showed me how a simple small disagreement can

lead to stopping a person from entering a country just because of what a person thinks of them.

Government official who debates over immigrant doesn't see a person who is moving from one

county to another because of economic reason, or for a personal reason. All they say is an

opportunity to make money off that immigrant or send them back where they came from.

Many years have passed since the upbringing of the United State and so many people have

forgotten at some point that their ancestry once migrates to the American and took the land from

the Native American that was already here. So the border should be open for anyone who

escaping from some type of harmful deeds that their country is doing to them because once upon

of time our ancestor did the same thing for their descents.
