Chapter Title Expected contents
8a Chemical Design of Reactor • Process background and general design
Major Equipment concepts (all aspect of the reaction(s)
involved are clearly shown)

(phase of reaction, whether homogeneous
or heterogeneous, process limiting regime
thoroughly discussed, detailed discussion
on catalyst used, if any)

Calculations include but not limited to:

(Verification at first assumption iteration
method, logic of reactor’s dimension,
residence time, etc.)

Absorber & • Explanation of process background and

calculations: -Recent data used as the

Heat • Process background and general design
Exchanger concepts
• Assumptions of design, choice of
equipment and design input parameter,
choice of heating/cooling medium, fluid
allocations.
• Calculations method
Calculations include but not limited to:
Physical properties, flowrate and operating
pressure, mean temperature difference,
heat duty, overall heat transfer coefficient,
fouling factor, pressure drop.
• Flowsheet are done with complete label of
equipments and streams.
• Feasibility of design
(Verification at first assumption iteration
method, logic of HE’s dimension, etc.)
• Reference Data, Chemical specification
sheet - All data supported by valid, cited
references
Clarifier • Process background and general design
concepts - Clarifier designed is clearly
stated as whether primary or secondary
clarifier.
• Assumptions of design, choice of
equipment (rectangular or circular) and
design input parameter (flowrate, solid
loading rate, parameter need to be
treated)
• Calculation methods
Calculations include but not limited to:
details of average flowrate and peak
flowrate, clarifier, detention time, scour
velocity, peak flow horizontal velocity,
percentage of removal at peak and
average flowrate, weir loading rates,
hydraulic loading rate and surface
overflow rate (for primary clarifier), solid
loading rate (for secondary clarifier) and
specific design clarifier type.
• Feasibility of design
Verification at first assumption iteration

with current industry application. Logic of
clarifier’s dimension and detention time.
