Numericals:
1. Given temp-25 C calculate MN for given TAS…..
Ans. 644 + (1.2)(-25) or 39 √T (T=273-25)

2. Aircraft on radial 180 inbound. At 0840 UTC told to turn right 20 deg and
intercept radial 160. The ac intercepts radial 160 at 0855 UTC. What is the ETA
destination? (Ans 0855 + 15 min = 0910)

3. Delhi – Guwahati distance 800NM. AN-32 maintaining G/S of 480 kts. Due
traffic congestion at Delhi, the ac is advised to delay arrival by 30 min. This is to be
achieved by maintaining reduced G/S of 240kt. At what time and distance from
Guwahati this speed reduction should be initiated?
Ans. 800nm @ 480kt = 100 min
New ETA 130 min (2:10)
2:10 @ 240kt = 520 nm

D to C = 800 – 520 = 280 nm

CS = 480-240 = 240 kts
280nm @ 240kt = 70 min (1:10)
Hence the speed should be reduced at 1:10 after Guwahati
Distance 1:10 @ 480 = 560 nm from Guwahati

X-Check
1:10 @ 480 kt = 560 nm
1:00 @ 240 kt = 240 nm
Total = 800 nm

4. Calculate aqua planning speed in kmph given tyre pressure in kg/cm2

Ans. 60√Tyre Pr

5. Calculate the stalling speed for given change in CL max

6. Given QFE 1020, AF elevation 780 feet .calculate QNH. Calculate clearance
above a 4000 ft obstacle near AF when ac is flying at FL 80. What will be given in
Jeppesen approach chart for elevation of the airfield?
Ans. QNH = Elev/30 + QFE
= 780/30 + 1020
= 26 + 1020
= 1046 mb

QNH Higher …. Actual ht Higher

Therefore, Actual Ht = 1046-1013 = 33 mb x 30 = 990 ft higher
Clearance = 8000 + 990 – 4000 = 4990 ft

Jeppesen app chart Elev in mb = 780/30

= 26mb

7. Given scale 1: 2000000 Find the groundspeed in kts if a/c travels 6.6cm on
the chart for 15 min.
Ans. 1: 2000000
1 cm = 20 km
6.6 cm = 20 x 6.6 km = 132 km = 71.2 nm

G/S = 71.2 nm @ 15 min = 284.8 kt
