on technology and low computer literacy rate, customers hesitate to adopt new technology. The

the internet rate, and promote the benefits of e-banking on media so that more users will embark
on e-banking services. TAM model was used to judge the perception of customers to accept or
reject technology.

perception on usage of ebanking about Askari Bank, Pakistan. This study is an effort to judge the
current problems faced by banks as well as customer. Results indicate that provided
infrastructure is feasible but governmental policies are not supportive towards e-banking.
Provided internet speed is not sufficient for home user to access online banking facilities and
those who have access to internet are not satisfied with the internet rates. Customer technology
awareness is very low and basic reasons behind this are rates of internet and computer literacy.
There are several factors which need to be considered to improve the situation of online baking
in Pakistan. During survey, ATM theft cases were also reported which leads towards customer
dissatisfaction as well as security concern. Customer acceptance to online banking is slow
because of different factors. These factors includes insecure transaction, slow speed of internet,
high internet rates, low computer literacy rate and low capability to accept new technology.
Again, results indicate that most of the users have concern about their data privacy and security.
Bank has to take initiative to increase customer orientation by educating them about new
technology and security issues. In order to improve customer satisfaction, government has to
provide basic infrastructure required to access online banking services. Most of the government
offices still using the manual system and lag behind to adopt computer technology. New
technology not only saves time but also efficiency. Government has to rethink about existing
policies to improve and make situation favorable for prospective customers.

E-Banking Challenges in Pakistan: An Empirical Study

Summary
Electronic banking has provision networks that replaces and replicated various activities
currently executing by the bank. Hence e-banking now plays a vital role to carry out the
individual as well as corporate financial activities execution. Even e-banking activities based on
the internet or virtual private networks own by the bank, therefore communication channel,
distribution channel and transactions channel must be secure. The research article explores the
current trends in the e-banking uprising that has set a goal in the Pakistani banking sector to
provide any easy interface to their customers which avail the e-banking services without any
physical presence in the bank vicinity. This empirical study was carried out in Pakistan which
indicating the current issues encounter by the e-banking application in various banking
industries. The analysis in this paper further reveals that approachability of internet in banking
sector makes customer reluctant to access their bank accounts electronically. The usage of e-
banking significantly affects the customer trust due to unavailability of cyber security.

Most of the financial bank transactions in Pakistan were conducted at the bank branches in
person and manually. The arrival of ICT (information & communication technology) and
accessibility of quick and trustworthy internet connectivity from the last decade have enabled
the expansion of e-banking networks in the country. The faster internet availability provides
more facilities to bank customers such as easier cash withdrawal, faster money transfer, web
application for customers and reducing the branches of banks. Beside the advantages, the
banking sector also faced the cyber threats due to internet connectivity such as transactions
security, privacy of customers’ accounts-threats and banking system security. This research

Determinants of Internet Banking Adoption by Banks in Pakistan

Summary
Current study has been conducted to determine the factors those affect the internet banking
adoption decision of banks in Pakistan. Logit Probit has been used to analyze the Panel data of
twenty five banks in Pakistan, covering the financial year of 2006 to 2015. The results showed
that six variables deposits, expenses, market share, spread and wages found significant
association with internet banking adoption decision but others were found insignificant. Study
found that most of the factors have affected the adoption decision of banking industry in
Pakistan.
Main objective of the study was to investigate the impact of different factors on internet
adoption decision of banks in Pakistan. Logit probit model has been used to analyze the panel
data collected from the financial statements of banks. In Pakistan older banks adopted internet
banking rapidly as compared to new established. Branch intensity factor does not affect their
adoption decision. So here we can say that banks those are older, having high spread, having
remarkable market share, want to decrease their expenses and to expand their deposits was
much interested in internet banking as compared to newly established banks.
One of the major limitations of this study is scope and size of its variables. We have included
deposit, expenses, size, age, market share and different other factors in our study. But we have
not included other many factors like ownership structure and their effects on internet banking
adoption decision. This can be a major factor in this segment because in public sector banks in
Pakistan old legacy system exists and it can be major restriction in adoption of internet banking.
This study can be helpful in policy formation regarding digitalization of banking industry in
Pakistan. This study can also helpful for Bank’s management for making decisions about
adoption, innovation and expansion of internet banking in Pakistan.

E-Banking Challenges in Pakistan

Summary
Change itself a small word but it takes too much time and resources to adopt. World is changing
too quickly, things which was far away now a single touch. Every sector adopts these changes
because if they not change or transform themselves, they stay far behind from others. Banking
sector is one of the sectors which are moving toward E-banking services by which customers
easily accesses their account through their smart phone and PCs infect they don’t have to wait in
queue. Without any doubt there are many benefits for adopting E-banking but it also generates
some new difficulties for organizations to execute these changes which are continuously
changing due to transformation of latest technology. The main purpose of this study is to
highlight the serious challenges faced by Pakistan in implementing of E-banking. From the last
few years banking sector of Pakistan provide many internet banking facilities to their customers.
SBP also play an important role for the implementation of E-banking in Pakistan. But still there
are some significant issues due to which many clients still prefer traditional banking rather than
e-banking. Some of the major troubles are the less response toward e-banking from customers
and the implementation of safety mechanisms. The low internet utilization, the non-familiarity
with technologically superior devices and troubles regarding protection and privacy are the
principle factors that have a terrible impact at the adaptation of e-banking offerings in Pakistan.

The finding of this research suggested that current banking system in our country is require to
come out better structure of internet banking, because of the weak technological infrastructure
security concerns are high among customers so we highly need to eliminate this issue in order to
gain customers confidence . According to researcher the banks have to facilitate further well-
organized, efficient and speedy services to their users to improve the banking system. To build a
trust banks have to provide banking facilities without any tax which include SMS alert and bank
statement send through mail at every transaction. Security measures and awareness program
should be implemented in all banks to minimize the challenges of E-Banking in Pakistan.

Research shows that implementation of e-banking is not as easy as it looks to be. There are
many difficulties in implementation of it by banks such as excessive expenditures use for the
execution of e-banking system. Pakistan has a potential to promote and provide facilities, but the
hurdle behind it is basic infrastructure. In coming decade Pakistan will have a widen door
because of successfully implementation of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) primary
infrastructure will improve. Safety issues will also over come soon due to CPEC which will
ultimately build the bond of trust between customers and banks. Pakistan has still a very big un
tap market, because the major chuck which is almost 78% is still living in rural areas who do not
have e-banking facilities yet. So if these issues overcome then banking sector can capture this
remaining non users of e-banking as well.
