A Son of the Forest (chapter 1)

This story starts off with introducing what the time we are reading about is about. But, it

seems to be a story written by someone who is related with the author. Starting off talking about

King Philip’s war between the natives and the white colonist. Talking mainly about what

happened on both sides and the result of the war. Then there is a sense of a religious background,

mainly because at that time King Philip’s war was held in New England (Mass., Rhode Island,

and Connecticut) where a lot of Protestants came to the New World for a religious reason.

APPLIED SLO- Read & Analyze

This story was made seemingly from a secondary source who was related to the far

distant relative King Philip, but bringing religion into the story with how everyone is related

because of Adam and Eve. So this story has a lot of religious references like King Philip,

(“religious” war) Adam and Eve, and the sovereign judge who can judge in the end who is a

reference to Christ.
