Why the University of Chicago Fails Me
The University of Chicago has a great variety of sports available to woman: Basketball,
Cross Country, Lacrosse, Soccer, Softball, Swimming & Diving, Tennis, Track and Field, and
Volleyball (The University of Chicago [uchicago.edu]). After reading through the list of sports
and seeing no mention of cheer I concluded that The University of Chicago has no cheer
program. This shows, that this school is not the best fit for me. Cheer is a priority right now. I
love cheer and if I went to the University of Chicago, I would not be able to enjoy college cheer.
College cheer is an experience that I would like to have and the University of Chicago does not
let me have that experience. The college experience is different for everyone, at the University
“61% of students say no one pays attention to varsity sports” (University of Chicago
[Niche.com]). Another “37% of students say that varsity sporting events are attended, but not a
huge part of campus life (University of Chicago [Niche.com]). This all indicates that the
University of Chicago does not revolve around sports. I hope my college experience involves
going to late night basketball games, having the whole school buzzing the night before our
volleyball team has a major tournament, and staying up late after the football game, with
friends talking about how great our school did. I want my school to revolve around sports and
that is not the University of Chicago. The University of Chicago is not a school I should attend in
the future.
The University of Chicago has a variety of Majors available, the majority of the majors
available are focused in Humanities. Some examples of majors that I would be interested in
would be Economics, History, and Video & Film Studies. If I went to the Chicago Booth School of
Business to major in economics, and then decided to change majors. I would have limited
majors to choose, from that I would enjoy doing at that school. In addition, I feel that I would
do better at a Liberal Arts school with more creative outlets. The University of Chicago has a
“217-acre campus on the shores of Lake Michigan” (University of Chicago [Niche.com]) with
about 5,978 undergraduites. The University of Chicago is a big school filled with lots of people.
This indicates that Chicago being such a big school is not the best option for me. I enjoy talking
to friends as I walk bye. I can stop to say hello, and make strong friendships. This all shows that
the university of Chicago is not a school I should consider attending in the future.
