Reflective Paper

This semester I learned a lot with just my writing in as a whole. I feel with the semester

coming to an end and while making my portfolio I really saw a difference and a tremendous

growth in my writing. We hit a lot of key points in class during especially during our more

lecture class periods, one huge thing I think really helped me for the rest of the semester and will

definitely stick with me is the logical thinking, time management, and learning how to better

make a plan for an essay.

From looking at my first essays and journals compared to now you can tell the difference

with the logical thinking. I can even tell a different from my high school AP English writing

assignment compared to my writing now. My final essay, which was paper four it went over

why OJC should offer recycling more to me that was a very important topic and I believe with

that essay it showed how I was more steady on being logical when I was writing it rather than

just writing what I thought would be easy and quick. I put a lot more thought and time into that

essay more than the rest. We had a full class going over how to get scholarly articles, that helped

me out a lot not only in English but my bio 111 class and human growth, that part of class was

something I am going to take and carry with me through my years of education.

My English class defiantly taught me how meaningful writing can be and how useful it

can be to know how to write things properly. For example my paper 3, and paper 4 they went

together, but the paper 3 I didn’t do so well because I didn’t do it properly, I just went through

the motions not actually put in a lot of work to make sure to get it done right. If you use logical

thinking and make sure to take the time to do you’re writing and make it correct it not only

makes it so much easier to write the paper you will also see a significant difference in the score

you will receive. The difference in my writing when I take time in it rather than just get it done

quick is crazy, you can tell the difference in the writing itself and even the difference of grades.

It is so much more useful to use logically thinking to go over a write an essay than just go

through the motions and just write what you know and what will make sense to you.

There are a lot of other things that I learned in this class to help me succeed in the future.

Like how to have time management. In the class we had journals every week and essays almost

every other week, on top of that I had journals due every week in 2 other classes, so it helped me

out by planning everything and laying it all out. Learning time management was a big deal

because at first with all the work needing to get done I struggled, but with the help of professor

Litle I learned a little more on how to organize my essays better to the point where I can look at

my plan and write it all down, with the help of her teaching us how to plan essay I ended up

using that in my other classes as well to get my work done on time and doing it more

consistently. Professor Litle brought in a woman who works in the learning commons to also go

over and make a plan for us to fill in the blanks. I liked this a lot because it helped my build

better skills so I can always plan my work before I just go and start writing. Making a plan gives

you a better starting place for an essay, and that was very helpful not only in English but in my

other classes and future ones.

I learned a lot in English 121 with Professor Litle, learning time management, planning, and

logical thinking and great ways to demonstrate all I learned. They impacted my writing style and

consistency; I feel I can move on from this class with a lot more knowledge on writing and how to do it

correctly. I never knew how much of an impact learning these little things would do on my writing.

the major impact it has one people.

Logical thinking is a very important skill, it teaches people how to use more logic in

writing rather than it being completely opinionated. Opinion based papers sound more like rants

rather than actual factual data. For me this helped a lot because most of my work was

opinionated until we hit that topic of logical thinking. I personally believe it really helped me

become a better writer, my facts seem to make more sense. For a example in my biology, we had

to do a research paper based off of a specific topic we chose. For me it was cellular respiration,

we had to conduct aa experiment than write about it using logic of course. I took the skills I

developed in English 121 to help me write this paper using logical thinking and research data

base that we learned how to use in class.
