Let me ask you a question when is the last time you see someone you know starts vaping
in different perspectives. Many think vaping is ok, and others think it is bad. However, have we
ever thought about an e-cigarette commercial affecting our teen's youth in some way? Tobacco
and e-cigarettes commercials aren’t something that we only see on television, but often we see
them in markets and even in our family. Since e-cigarettes are known for their low effects on
health risk, companies are trying to buy more electronics cigarettes to produce and sell their own
brand on the market. With that being said, the matter is just going to appeal more to the younger
viewers and pursuing them to wanting to try the produce that can creates a long-term addiction.
So, what exactly are e-cigarettes advertisements really selling us? This question has
flicked the light bulb in my head as to who is possibly in responsible for these advertisements.
I’ve always thought about the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) doing their job to protect
the public health and safety, but the real question is willing the FDA be able to step in and
regulate e-cigarette as a “tobacco” product? All these questions have come to my condition that
this is an important topic that I want to emphasize on and bring notice to the FDA and parents.
When it comes to the U.S. health and safety we often think about the FDA. I understand
that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) are the ones who are responsible for protecting
public health and our safety. When it comes to products, we obtain in our everyday basis that can
either be food, cosmetics, and tobacco products that we will be discussing today. I feel that the
FDA should be more on their feet and address products that are being advertised with the
intention of letting younger viewers into the open. Ever since electronic cigarettes known for the
reduced of many health risks, most tobacco companies are buying e-cigarettes to sell and market
their own products. This is one of the reasons why I think companies are trying to prevent the
FDA from regulating electronic cigarettes due to how fast companies are selling and marketing
The traditional tobacco that we use to have on the market and even so now, it doesn’t
look that appealing and good compares to a vape. E-cigarettes or the young ones might call it a
vape is a new trend on the market. Knowing that e-cigarette has lower health risks the kids are
loving it. Kids now a day are vaping just for the image and the look of being cool, other than that
kids are trying to show off that they have a vape pen. E-cigarettes are known for their packaging
it what they call a vape pen, other than the packaging e-cigarettes carries nicotine with different
flavors like strawberry, cotton candy, sour apple, and more. CDC Director Tom Frieden, in
“Don’t Let Big Tobacco Hook a New Generation on Nicotine with Alluring Ads for E-
Cigarettes,” Explain that Nicotine is highly addictive. If kids have more access to nicotine, they
are more likely to have a long-term addiction not only with e-cigarettes but also tobacco.
It is obvious that the FDA is laying low with all the orders. I believe things can get worst
in the long run because they are not making any type of regulations that we can anticipate,
knowing that these companies are selling us dangerous substances with no restrictions. If I were
to say in my case if the FDA were to step in and regulate e-cigarettes as a tobacco product and
prohibit sales to kids, making sure their health claims made by tobacco companies are true and
require companies to add the ingredient list to the juice. In that case that will limit most
companies into selling addictive nicotine and substances that might be dangerous for our health,
and with that tobacco companies won’t be able to make any more profits out of these
advertisements.
In conclusion, I want to say that the FDA are the ones who are responsible for our health
and safety. How they should be active and start to regulate products that are being sold on the
market with a few restrictions. I can’t emphasize how important the matter is known anyone who
is exposed to these thinks of advertisement with no strict layout. It is getting out of hand and the
last thing I want is to see more teens getting exposed to all these substances.
Sincerely,
TuBinh Luong.
