After looking at the numerous images from the past that were provided to me, it took a

while for me to find a phot that connected to me the most. After asking my mother about her

parent’s history, I looked at the pictures again and noticed the photo of the soldier getting a kiss

from his daughter after World War II. After a lot of research about my mother’s side of the

family, I learned a lot about my grandfather. He was a member of the Tank Division for the U.S.

army. He fought in the Vietnam war and was awarded a purple heart and a bronze star. A bronze

star is an award that represents an act of heroism or meritorious achievement in a combat zone. A

purple heart is an award that is given to a soldier by the president of the United States to

recognize their service for our country. This award is only given to specific soldiers that were

wounded or killed in the act of fighting for our country. These awards are only given to soldiers

who have showed acts of heroism while in war. The reason why this photo connects to me so

much is because it reminds me of my mother when she got to see my grandfather again when he

came back from Vietnam. The little girl that was in the photo kissing her father was my mother

kissing my grandfather when he arrived in the United States. This photo has inspired me to look

further into my family history when it comes to wars in the past. It made me wonder if more than

only one of my grandparents fought in any type of war. This is very significant to my family

because after conducting more research on my family, I realized that I have more than one

family member who has fought in the war. This had led me to think of how much information

about my family I may not know. I feel like this photo has intrigued me enough to look further

into my grandparents’ history because a lot of my family has fought in at least one war. I don’t
know what wars they’ve fought in or know of any awards they may have earned, so this will be a

good start when I begin my genealogy project.
