Learning activity 4

Evidence: My presentation outline

A. Find a topic of personal interest. Imagine you are going to present that topic
orally to your teacher and classmates at school. For this part of the evidence
you need to carry out exhaustive research in order to be able to present all the
necessary information related to your selected topic. Report the most important
aspects of your research through a brainstorm of the ideas and concepts that
you think will be relevant to the presentation.

Brainstorm

Example of topic: Aviation.

 Aviation refers to the use of commercial and non-commercial aircrafts

for transportation of people or goods.

 The A380, manufactured by the Airbus Industry, is the biggest plane

ever made.

Topic: Solar Energy

Solar energy is a type of renewable or clean energy that provides the

sun due to its electromagnetic radiation (light, heat and ultraviolet
rays mainly) and this can generate heat and electricity.

Solar energy is produced by sunlight to generate electricity -

photovoltaic energy - or by the heat of the sun to generate heat -
solar thermal -. It is obtained by means of panels and mirrors.

Renewable energy is that energy that comes from practically

inexhaustible natural sources, such as water, wind and sun. They are
considered like this, by the great amount of energy that they contain
or by regenerating of natural form.

Although the development of solar technologies began in the 1860s,

the availability of non-renewable sources such as coal and oil
stopped growing at the beginning of the 20th century.

Solar energy emerges as a new alternative for energy consumption

responsible for the environment, given the impact generated by non-
renewable energy.

Among its benefits are:

It is renewable.

It is an unlimited source of energy.

It is the cleanest energy source and does not endanger or increase

global warming, because it does not produce greenhouse gases or
byproducts that are dangerous to the environment.
This new alternative is implemented in homes, businesses and cities,
which can take advantage of it to carry out their daily activities,
develop sustainable projects, reduce the consumption of electricity
and be at the forefront in technological innovation projects.

It develops the industry and the economy of the region in which it is

installed.

In Colombia, no permit is needed to install solar panels.

It generates long-term economic benefits.

Tax benefits and incentives by the State for the use of solar energy,
established in Law 1715 of 2014.

Bring electricity to remote areas and difficult to access where there is

no electricity network.

Bring health and education services where it was not possible before.

Generate new employment opportunities from clean energy.

A system of solar panels contributes to the improvement of the

energy service and the reduction of the carbon footprint in the
country.
B. Now, structure your presentation using the Signpost language learnt during this
learning activity. Present your outline through presentation cards. Use as many
cards as you need.

Remember: Each presentation card should include a heading, a

phrase at the bottom, a number and it should be organized by
numbering and bulleting.
