New Irish
Film Channel
A new Irish Film Channel is planned
which will show a mix of Irish,
European and World cinema. It will be
available nationally as a free to air
service and will not carry any advertis-
ing. The channel will also provide an
outlet for the many high quality Irish
films that have been made over the
years.
I am also working on a proposal for
Dáil TV, a channel that will broadcast
live coverage of the business of the
Houses of the Oireachtas. It will also
provide coverage of proceedings from
other national and international parlia-
ments and from local Council meet-
ings. We aim to have both channels
on the airwaves by the end of next
Marlay Park Golf Course
The tender process for the new Marlay
Park Golf Course has been completed
and work is to commence in June of this
year. The course is expected to be
completed in the Autumn. This is a
valuable resource for the local
community and I look forward to the
opening.

Advertising to Kids
We need to protect our children from
the advertising of food products
which are high in sugar, fats or salts.
As a parent with young children I can
see the power and effect of such
advertising. In the new Broadcasting
Bill published this month, I have
committed to ending the advertising
of junk food products during
children’s programming. This is
something we signaled as intent in
opposition but which we will now
deliver on in Government.

The Winners of the Al Gore Competion
It was an honour to be invited to speak with the former US Vice President Al Gore at an
event hosted by Merrion Capital at the Royal College of Surgeons last November. I ran
a competition in my Winter newsletter for tickets to the event and the four winners from
Dublin South came along the day ,which was thoroughly enjoyed by all. Al Gores latest

Revamp for TV Licensing

buy a licence and avoid an expensive

Better Water Quality
for Sandyford Area.
Funding has been approved to allow Dun
Laoghaire Rathdown to begin works to
improve water quality in the County. The
scheme is being financed under the
Department of the Environments Water
Services Investment Programme 2007-
2009 .
Two new covered reservoirs are to be
constructed at Dun Gaoithe and Stepaside.
New pumping stations will also be built at
the Stillorgan Reservoir and Sandyford Hall
Estate, along with 7.5 kilometres of
distribution mains.
The scheme is designed to address water
supply deficiencies and improve water
quality in the Sandyford, Ballyogan,
Stepaside and Kilternan areas.

Civic Campus Planned
for Ballyogan
A new civic campus is planned for
Ballyogan.The campus will include a
sports hall, gym, swimming pool, outdoor
and indoor playing pitches, a skate park, a
créche, community centre and a library.
This proposal will go to the Part 8 planning
process next year and it is intended to be
open by 2011.

proved very popular where 100 people are

National Programme to Combat Graffiti Good Idea
The Department of Justice and Minister John Gormley have announced
a new national programme to combat graffiti. The Government is
allocating €3.75 million in 2008 to help local communities to take the
action that is most appropriate in their area. Graffiti is a major issue
across the country and it is this kind of extra support that is needed for
communities and the Council to tackle the problem.
