Video Intro (5 seconds)


Introductory picture

Voiceover:

Do you ever feel like you are unsure as to what kind of behaviors are considered sexual
harassment?

Definition (5 seconds)
Voiceover:
Sexual harassment in the workplace is defined as unwelcomed attention whether verbal or
physical that affects the employee’s job conditions or creates a hostile work environment.

Something to keep in mind is the victim and harasser can be either a man or a woman.

Types of sexual harassment (60 seconds)


Voiceover:
There are 2 types of harassment recognized by the equal employment opportunity commission,
and they are “quid pro quo” and “hostile work environment.”

Transition to picture for quid pro quo harassment

“Quid pro quo” stands for “this for that.” It is comprised of demands for sexual favors in
exchange for some kind of benefit, such as a promotion, a raise, a good performance review, and
so on. This type of harassment is usually perpetrated by someone of power or in a position with
more authority in the workplace.

Another example of this would be a manager threatening to fire an employee if she is not willing

Now moving on to hostile work environment. This type of harassment is comprised of conduct
or speech that is so severe, it creates a demeaning or intimidating environment.
Examples of what qualifies as harassment in this category consists of inappropriate touching,
sexually oriented jokes or comments, or repeated requests for dates.

Addressing sexual harassment (40 seconds)

Voiceover:
If you believe that you are a victim of sexual harassment in the workplace here are some things
you should do

1. Firmly tell the individual that’s making you uncomfortable to stop

2. Start documenting the encounters in detail, some of the things you may want to include
are time, place, and people who may have witnessed the encounter, if any. Make sure
you do this on your personal journal or laptop.

3. Speak to your HR manager, or someone of a higher position and let them know what is
happening.

4. If this continues and nothing is being done, use the handbook that was provided to you
when you were first hired into the company. The handbook contains numbers of state
agencies in which employees can file complaints to corporate.

Sexual harassment is not something that should be taken lightly. If you or someone you know are
a victim of sexual harassment in the workplace do not be afraid to report it. Sexual harassment is
against the law and should not be tolerated.
