ENVIRONMENTAL ANALYSIS

PESTEL Analysis (External)

POLITICAL ECONOMIC SOCIO-CULTURAL

 Tax policy  Interest rates  Students are regular
 Labor law  Inflation patrons of coffee
 Environmental law shops.
 Certain products like,
“Milk tea”, is currently
a fad.
 Business could only
thrive in a seasonal
manner.

TECHNOLOGICAL LEGAL ENVIRONMENTAL

 Wi-Fi Access  Regulations  Practice water
 Charging Outlets  Regular Tax conservation
 Latest Appliances  Work Days and Work  Invest in Energy
Hours Efficient Appliances
 Weekly Rest Days  Paperless
 Safe Working
Conditions
TABLE 1.2

POLITICAL FACTOR

 Tax Policy - Taxation policy could affect the business costs. If ever, a rise in corporation
tax (on business profits) has the same effect as an increase in costs.
 Labor Law - Minimum wage laws can be able to rack up your payroll costs in a
marketplace with high unemployment and low wage demand.
 Environmental Law – A Business must apply for and adhere to permits from the federal
EPA for their air emissions and their effluents discharged into waterways.

ECONOMIC FACTOR

 Interest Rates - When interest rates rise, consumers with debts are going to have to pay
more interest to lenders. This has a negative effect on their spending habits because they
have to pay to keep their loans current, and they will have to spend less on products and
services.

5
 Inflation - Rapidly rising prices would not only impact the price consumers pay, they also
affect the cost businesses have to pay for materials and inventory. When replacement
inventory costs more than the inventory you just sold, it can lead to inventory shortages.

SOCIO-CULTURAL FACTOR

 Students are regular patrons of coffee shops – Students are known to frequent places like
cafes and coffee shops on the daily. Opening up a business that was near a surplus of
them is sure to be beneficial
 Certain products like, “Milk tea”, is currently a fad – The emergence of trends extend
onto the realm of goods like food. As it so happens, one of our products is that one very
thing.
 Business could only thrive in a seasonal manner – As it is advertised as a “Study haven”,
it does make sense that most of the business that it would pull in is from students, a
majority of which have 2 months of summer vacation or more. This might lead to a
shortage of business during those times.

TECHNOLOGICAL FACTOR

 Wi-Fi Access – One of the main reasons students go to these types of establishments is to
get work done, and the Internet is a much appreciated tool in assisting that purpose. This
is also to keep up with other competitors.
 Charging Outlets – Charging Outlets for the use of customers who have electrical devices
with them. This is also to ensure that they stay for a long time and keep ordering.
 Latest Appliances - This factor in our business and in every other business is very
important. This not only show innovation and upgrade in the shop itself. But, that also
makes the place convenient for both our staff and the customer.

LEGAL FACTOR

 Regulations - In opening a business, following and abiding with the local regulations is a
must. Doing otherwise will make it hard, even impossible and the Staff and Management
of “Librada’s” will make sure that every requirement is complete. Requirements such as:
business permit, sanitary permit, occupancy permit, BIR permit, barangay clearance,
locational permit, and fire permit. Also, the administration will make sure that these
parents and the people.
 Regular tax – One must know what kind of economic growth our country is trying to
achieve. As a business in this country, it is our obligation to help our country in its
growth. Since businesses nationwide pay their taxes, “Librada’s” will do its best to pay
its taxes regularly for the betterment of our country's economic status.
 Work days and Work hours – “Librada’s” follows the appropriate working hours for
employees. It sticks the allotted work time as well as the working days that are why

6
employees will have a shift based rotation. There will also be days where in the store will
be closed due to important events.
 Weekly rest days - As any other business, “Librada’s” allows for their employees to have
rest days every week. The rest day for staffs will also be the rest day for the shop itself.
But, this will only be once in a week since our business venture is a day to day category
for customers that crave for our product. The day in question is, Sunday.
 Safe working conditions – “Librada’s” will always do it’s very best to ensure the safety
of everyone within its parameters and boundary. The administration will acknowledge the
safety of their customers as well as the safety of their staff. Any injury caused to the staff
while working and while in the work place will be accounted to the administration.

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS

 Practice water conservation – “Librada’s” practices the conservation of water. By doing

this practice, we are helping the environment to be less water needy and let its water be
used in other much more important natural process.
 Invest in Energy Efficient Appliances – “Librada’s” will always strive for innovation and
what’s best for its business venture. We put so much focus on innovating and improving
our business that we take investments on appliances seriously. It is always a necessity to
look into appliances which would be energy efficient, like for example solar or green
powered appliances.
 Paperless – The usage of paper receipts just adds to the needed amount of trees cut down
for paper. That is why “Librada’s” used technology instead. For paying bills in the shop,
and/or making any reservations, the shop offers a hi-tech way of doing so. Receipts
and/or proofs of reservation can be sending through email. As a result, everything will be
more convenient and we will be lessening the need to cut down trees.

 Creativity  Common  Economic  Competition-

 Seasonal attach
 New
Products
TABLE 1.3

STRENGTH

7
 Creativity – This business venture is something that could be taken further in terms of
what kind of gimmicks could be applied in addition to what is already tacked on the
original.
 Marketability – This kind of business venture is very marketable to the location that it is
set in. It is almost guaranteed to appeal to the desired market immediately.

WEAKNESSES

 Common business venture – Cafes and Coffee shops are already a usual sight in these
parts. There are also more well-known brands that appeal to a loyal market.
 Seasonal – This business venture mostly caters to students and as such will likely
experience a drop in their business during students’ break.

OPPORTUNITIES

 Economic Growth - Since “Librada’s” will be a crowd favorite, there will be more
income to come which means we will have higher taxes to pay that can help our
country’s economy grow a lot. This could also pave the way for franchising.
 Customer-attachment - This business may be seasonal, but it could also catch the heart
and especially the taste buds of our customers. We are hoping that continued patronage
will inspire loyalty and proliferation in the market.
 New Products – Cafes have the opportunity to create seasonal and limited drinks and
desserts. It could also sell additional merchandise that doesn’t necessarily include food
and drinks during the holidays and different events.

THREATS

Competition-involving - As said before, Cafes and Coffee shops are a very common sight in a
densely populated area such as Mendiola. It’s competition also has the advantage of being much
more well-known and enterprising. Being up against these giants when you’re an up and coming
business is surely not the best of situations.

PRODUCTION PROCESS

The coffee cherries must be harvested,a process that is still done manually. Next, the cherries are
dried and husked using one of two methods. The dry method is an older, primitive, and labor-
intensive process of distributing the cherries in the sun, raking them several times a day, and
allowing them to dry
