(30s~1min) and change pair so that they can talk to everybody.

Unique Experiences: sts pair up and talk about interesting experiences they had, such as trips,
accidents etc.

Interview/Report: Warmup - Sts interview each other

Alphabet Words: in a circle, Sts have to say a word starting with the letters of the alphabet in
order.

Favorite Word of the day: Sts choose a word they saw on their lesson that they liked or thought
was interesting. Then, they can either make a sentence or a question for another student.

Explain a profession: Sts have to describe a profession (either chosen by the students or
provided by the teacher) and the other Sts have to guess.

Whose is the story: students write something interesting that happened to them on a slip of
paper (this can be the warmup) and then, the papers are mixed and each St has to draw a
random one. The St reads their paper and tries to guess whose it is, with help and suggestions
from the classmates.

Role play activities:

Choose a theme (restaurant, airport, hotel, job interview...) The warmup can be a brainstorm of
words and sentences relates to the theme. Then, for the Closing, Sts have to pair up and
simulate that situation.

Talking in alphabet: Sts pair up and ask a question by spelling out the letters of each word.
Then, the other student has to answer the question also by spelling out the words.

Who am I: the post-it on the forehead game. Adjust categories according to the class, ie only
animals/objects. Random people is too difficult for a class with many beginners.

I went on a picnic…
Create a rule for things that are allowed to be taken on your picnic. Say a word that is allowed
and elicit examples from students, sorting allowed and not-allowed examples (to help students,
write on the board). Possible rules: color of objects
First letter
Type of thing (only fruits, vegetables, liquids)
Number of letters
Famous people: Sts pretend to be a celebrity and answer questions from the other students
who have to guess the celebrity

Question with the last word: one St asks a question, St2 answers. Then, St1 asks another
question using the last word form St2’s answer. Repeat this for a few question then exchange
roles.

Sell an item: In Pairs. St1 chooses an item from their things and has to sell to their classmate,
talking about the uses and qualities of the product. Exchange roles

Make the most words: using the letters of big words like FLABBERGASTED or
DISCOMBOBULATE Sts have to make as many words as possible. Can be used as a
competition between groups or pairs

Odd one out:

Strawberry apple orange cherry
Through champagne plum knife
Window river envelope client oregano

Many vs much vs a lot vs alot of

False friends: write many pairs of false friends on the board scrambled and students have to
connect and form a sentence.

Warmup: simple past review. Elicit examples of sentences and verbs (regular/irregular) from
students.
Closing: yesterday I…
St1: Yesterday I played
St2: Yesterday I played and studied
St3: Yesterday I played, studied and ate
(...)

Warmup: Elicit words from previous odd-numbered lesson

Closing: students have to create a story, one sentence each, using the words from the board

Everybody Who: all students make a circle sitting on their chairs. Teacher stands in the middle
and says “everybody who…” and something common to most students, such as “everybody
who studies English”, “everybody who wears glasses’, “everybody who has a brother”. Then, if
the statement applies to any of the students, they have to stand up and change chairs. Whoever
is left standing has to say another statement.

What’s in the news? - Check some important news and then ask students what has been going
on, stimulate a conversation/discussion.

Create a… (store, restaurant, barbecue, party, anything!): In pairs or trios. Students have to
create/organize something, such as the menu of a restaurant, the prices and a name. Or the
items needed to have a party. The warmup is for students to interact and decide and Closing for
presentations.

Things in common: form groups (3~4 sts) and they have to find x things in common (adjust the
number according to how much time is available and how proficient the students are. For a
quick activity, 2 things are enough.) Tell students to avoid very obvious things, such as “we live
in Campinas” or “we study english”.

Finish the thought:

Today I’m happy about…
Tomorrow I will…
The best part of my day was…
