INTRODUCTION
The communication is a process of social interaction of verbal or non-
verbal nature, with the intentions of people who are in the coverage of said
emission.1 Oral language or verbal communication is the process of delivering
thoughts by communicators to communicants using oral or written language.2
Language of gestures or non-verbal communication besides using words
when communicating, body language is also used.3 The language of gestures used
in the form of sign language is a non-verbal form in which each word or number
is represented by gestures of the hand or arm.4
Body language can give pressure or the opposite of what we are saying. If
you have to be polite to someone you don't like, maybe you say the right words,
but your body rebels. Maybe you shake your hand for a while, or try to avoid your
eyes. Here body language is contrary to the language of speech. You send 2
different types of signs. Speech language says "I like you"; body language says "I
don't like you". If the recipient understands body language, he will not be fooled.
Except, if you are a good user of body language and know how to make you look
really positive. Only someone who is very good at body language can see very
small signs that express your true feelings.
More important than all, do not try to learn individual signals. It is best to
observe body language in the sense of a scenario, just as we do in everyday life,
when every piece of body language is described when developing in a specific
situation it is rarely isolated. Another common mistake is failing to monitor body
language over a period of time. to recognize body language signals, such as anger
is one thing, but not too many benefits unless you can also determine the extent of
anger and its development. One of the many benefits of learning body language is
increasing your awareness of yourself and your awareness of other people. That

situation will make all your encounters with other people more interesting and
more rewarding.
The limitation of the problem is the role of women's body language while
giving presentations. The purpose of this research is to understand the style of
communication in public and to find out the role of women's body language while
giving presentation.

METHOD
The data used in this study is based on direct observation at the
presentation of the Course Design of EYL courses, on November 27, 2018. The
results of this observation were in the form of demonstrations made by some of
my friends which I later described as researchers. This research uses qualitative
methods or case studies.

RESULT AND DISCUSSION

According to Sasa Djuarsa Sendjaja, nonverbal communication is
generally defined as "messages that are deliberately or unintentionally expressed
through movements or actions or behaviors or voices that are different from the
use of words in language".
Whereas according to Richard E. Potter and Larry A. Samoval in
Intercultural Communication: A Reader. 5Body language is the process of
exchanging thoughts and ideas by putting aside messages in the form of signals,
facial expressions, eyesight, touch, artifacts (lambing used), silence, time, sound,
and posture and body movements.
In many books the definition of body language also has many variations.
However, what is closer to the topic of our language is that body language is a
gesture and position of the body that is done consciously or not, which
communicates one's thoughts and feelings.
It should be noted carefully here is the use of the terms "expressed
intentionally or unintentionally" and "done consciously or not". From this we can

capture two principles that are very important for communication activities. First,
nonverbal communication must be conscious and deliberate. The process always
starts with giving meaning and formulating the message and ends with sending the
message. His communication, the sending of his message consciously because he
had certain motives.
Second, nonverbal messages can be expressed accidentally or
intentionally, and consciously or not. So, accidentally or accidentally the
nonverbal messages can come out. The interesting thing here, what he expressed
was his feelings and his thoughts. In line with that, if the mind of the other person
is honest and clean, the intentional or unintentional action of the person is an
honest message, and vice versa. Thus, whatever gestures that appear can be
immediately captured by the police who interrogate them.
Nonverbal communication (body language) is the process of
communication where messages are delivered not using words. Examples of
nonverbal communication are using gestures, body language, facial expressions
and eye contact, the use of objects such as clothing, haircuts, etc., symbols, and
ways of speaking such as intonation, emphasis, sound quality, emotional style,
and speaking style.
Experts in the field of nonverbal communication usually use the definition
of "not using words" strictly, and do not equate non-verbal communication with
non-verbal communication. For example, sign language and writing are not
considered nonverbal communication because they use words, while intonation
and speaking style are classified as nonverbal communication. Nonverbal
communication is also different from subconscious communication, which can be
either verbal or nonverbal communication.
The use of body language in communication is a way of suppressing the
expression of messages to be conveyed. This is important to avoid distortion
information. When communicating using body language will clarify the spoken
language and at the same time will have a positive impact that might be
unexpected. Here are 5 reasons for the importance of body language in
communication:
Understanding one's mind
To understand someone's thoughts other than the verbal language they
express, Stars people can observe their facial expressions and eyes. Not a few
people experience difficulties in expressing their thoughts and feelings. There are
also many people who can hide what they are thinking. By observing his body
language, Stars people can better understand what others think.
Avoiding misunderstandings
There are many talks that are not well conveyed. In order to avoid miss
communication, Stars people should learn to understand body language well. The
use of body language correct will support the delivery of messages more
accurately and accurately.
Measuring emotional levels
A person's mental condition can be disguised by words. But he cannot hide
his gesture. Understanding body language is important for Stars people to be able
to measure a person's emotions through facial and body expressions. By
understanding the level of one's emotions, Stars people can take wise steps when
communicating with them.
Knowing the signs of boredom
A verbal communicator usually likes to talk to anyone and anywhere. By
understanding the body language in detail, Stars people can find out if the other
person is bored and does not want to listen or dislike the topic of conversation by
making boundaries through expressing his body language.
Differentiating truth and lies
According to Sigmund Freud, "No human can keep secrets if his lips are
silent. He will chatter with the tips of his fingers. Secrets occur from all the pores
of the skin. "
As smart as someone verbally communicates, he cannot hide his body
language when lying. Eye gaze, facial expressions, even hand movements and
body can be read clearly when he is lying. As a leader, it is important for Stars
people to know and understand body language in order to distinguish truth from
lies.
By learning body language, Stars people can know the meaning of every
movement of the human body. The easiest body language to learn is by learning
how to make eye contact, handshake, body posture, facial expressions, how to fill
space and so on. Stars people want to be a reliable communicator? Immediately
learn a body language and improve verbal communication skills.
Elements of Body Language:
1. HAND MOVEMENTS. Your audience will pay more attention to you
and absorb more content when it is accompanied by hand gestures. One to two
hand gestures per 30 seconds of content works well. Your audience will perceive
open palms as friendly, while downward facing palms can be interpreted as
aggressive. Slow hand movements demonstrate confidence and pull the
audience’s attention, without being distracting.
2. EYE CONTACT. Eye contact with the audience creates engagement,
builds trust, and generates credibility. The best speakers can make members of the
audience feel as if they are being communicated with 1 to 1. While you can’t
make eye contact with everyone in a large audience, you can make eye contact
with a few people in different areas of the room, which has almost the same effect
on people near them.
3. POSTURE. Open your chest and arms to engage with your audience.
Keep your back straight to demonstrate authority.
4. MOVEMENT. Do not let the lectern stand between you and your
audience. Stand to the side of the lectern so your audience does not sense you are
hiding from them. It is even better to show energy and engage your audience by
moving confidently around the stage (but not if you require notes).
5. EXPLANATORY GESTURES. Use positive gestures — smile, nod,
open your hands and arms. Use hand gestures in the air to illustrate the curve in a
chart or to emphasize a key point.
6. COMFORT GESTURES. Speakers unconsciously make comfort
gestures to comfort themselves, e.g., when feeling nervous, anxious or not in
control. Comfort gestures include rubbing your arms, adjusting your tie, playing
with your ring or necklace, or moving your body or some part of it in a rhythmic
manner. Since comfort gestures are unconscious, it is hard to practice not making
them. What you can do is practice your talk (with video recording) to see them
and gain confidence. If you notice yourself engaging in comfort gestures during
your talk, try to stop them, but do it with a confident attitude so you don’t get
distracted and even more nervous.
7. STANDING VS. SITTING. Sitting behind a draped table on the podium
makes it almost impossible to establish stage presence. In addition to severely
restricting the speaker’s ability to use body language, the table literally forms a
barricade between the speaker and audience.
Pict. 1

We can see in picture 1, Ziya is presenting material, she opens her hands,
she also does an eye contact with the audience, at a glance like practicing
something. The body movements she does make the audience pay attention to
what she is conveying. We can see from her group mate who was sitting in front
of the audience, the three group friends saw and pay attention to what Ziya was
saying. Ziya also seemed to understand the materials because she gave an example
according to what she experienced. It is just that she still looks nervous and she
cannot cover it.

From the example above, we can conclude that the body language plays an
important role when we make presentations. With us doing body movements that
will make the audience pay attention to us, also make the audience easier to
understand about the material we covey, and make us more visible mastering the
material at the time of presentation.
CONCLUSION
Nonverbal communication (body language) is a communication process

communication are using gestures, body language, facial expressions and eye
