students learn in Mrs. meeting was working around Mrs.
Carpenter’s class and Carpenter’s schedule with the
how to set up quizzes for students. I didn’t want to interfere
the student to do on their with Mrs. Carpenter’s time with her
Ipad. students which was a little hard
because the rotations are only 30 to
45 minutes.
3. I learned more about the curriculum
and the impact technology has on
the student. Technology is used
everyday in the 4th grade classes
and each student has a Ipad to work
on assignments, quizzes, and to
communicate with others in the
class.
4. My knowledge about curriculums
and technology has expanded
during my time in the meeting. I
was able to see the curriculum of
the last unit in her social studies
class and learned more about
technology’s role in the classroom.
This was a great experience.

I learned more strategies Mrs. Carpenter asked if I would like
for teaching a group of to sit with the students and her after
students while answering she said that the students were
their questions and asking me to sit with them. The
providing help. students were really excited about
me helping in their classroom and
were accepting to my observations.
I was grateful Mrs. Carpenter
introduced me to the class because
they were able to know me better
and call me by my name.
2. When I first walked into the
classroom one of the students was
questioning me about observing the
class and wasn’t very pleased at
first. After a while, she was able to
feel comfortable with me observing
and helping, also started talking
with me. Mrs. Carpenter then
showed me an email from one of
the administers of the school
explaining the different illnesses
going around the school. After
reading the email her and one of the
students were starting to feel sick
and we had to sanitize the desks
around the classroom. The Apple
TV used to project photos and
videos on the screen was glitching
out. Since the screen was
malfunctioning some of the planned
lessons of the day had to be
changed. After a while, the students
went to lunch and the student who
was felt sick was sent home after
showing symptoms of the stomach
flu.
3. The main takeaway for me was
being able to see the students learn
and different methods of teaching.
Mrs. Carpenter had the students
work on their work independently
most of the time I was there. The
students were allowed to work with
others and ask Mrs. Carpenter or me
for clarification or help. Observing
this I noticed students worked well
when there is flexible seating.
Students were allowed to sit
wherever they wanted as long as
they were working on their
assignment. Mrs. Carpenter had an
app on her Ipad where she could
watch all the students Ipad screens
and lock them out of the Ipad if they
were not working on assigned tasks.
The assignments students were
working on was a better method of
doing all the tasks that were
assigned on the board. During
reading and writing student were
asked to do their spelling, vocab,
reading a book, and a writing
assignment. To complete the
assignments Mrs. Carpenter told the
students there will be rotations
separated by their table group and
every 15 minutes you would move
to the next rotation. The students
were able to work on each task on
the board by doing the rotations. By
observing the class I was able to
learn about more strategies to
improve the information a student is
learning. I gained knowledge about
kinesthetic learners and visual
learners based on the way the lesson
plan or breaks was presented to the
class.
4. My observation of the class was an
impactful experience and inspired
me to want to be a teacher like Mrs.
Carpenter. The students from my
aftercare class who have Mrs.
Carpenter always tell me about
great of a teacher Mrs. Carpenter is.
I learned from my experience about
not only methods of helping
students learn, but how to connect
to students and build a trusting
relationship. The class welcomed
me and treated me with respect I
felt like a teacher already when I
was there. This experience was a
great opportunity to learn about
teaching by being able to help out in
the classroom and lead a class.

March 27th For teacher cadet I was 1. I was very nervous for my first time

2 hours scheduled to teach a students, but the activity we did

and students had to make were able to move around to see

style of learning.
2. Before even teaching the lesson I
was nervous to lead the class in an
activity. The start of the lesson was
challenging, the introduction about
the five regions and activity. I had
never did an introduction to a topic
before and I was afraid the students
wouldn’t understand. Another
challenging part of the lesson was
the time to do the activity and
presentations. My teacher from
Mountain Vista was running late
and students had to leave at 3:10 pm
which caused us to have less time to
make the regions and present each
group’s region.
3. The main takeaway was from
teaching Mrs. Carpenter’s fourth
grade class was the students
learning styles. One student I talked
to after the activity said that was the
first time they heard the word
region and they were able to learn
about the regions because of the
activity. This student told me they
never really focus to the lessons in
class, they will draw or read. I was
so nervous that the students didn’t
learn about the regions, but that
student was able to express what
they learned.
4. The experience from teaching in a
elementary classroom was the most
memorable out of all the experience
I have had over the years involving
teaching. My mentor was able to
encourage me during the lesson and
help if I was having a difficult time
with describing the activity to the
students. By giving a lesson in front
of a class of fourth grade students I
was able to reflect on what went
well and what I need to work on for
next time. For the next lesson I
teach to the class, I will be more
prepared and less nervous.

April 29th, May 1st, I was helping out in Mrs. 1. On Monday the students had a
May 3rd Carpenter’s for my movie day and were watching
6 hours internship for about 2 Wall-e while eating popcorn. I was
hours each day. I would asked to work with the students who

Sometimes helping I went into a separate room called
certain students with their the middle room where I was able
work other types I was to work one-on-one with students
helping organize. which is very helpful for them. On
Wednesday I got to experience
grading for the first time because
the one time I did it before was just
one person’s paper. Mrs. Carpenter
asked if I could grade the students
math test while the students were
working independently. I now
understand the challenge of grading
papers since they take so long, their
math test was 5 section each section
had 25 questions. It took me 2 hours
to grade all the tests in the pile Mrs.
Carpenter had given me, she even
gave me strategies after a while on
how to grade papers faster. She said
to check a high percentage test for
answers while grading to go faster.
On Friday Mrs. Carpenter was
doing DRA2 testing with her
students, so she asked if I could go
to the middle room to organize the
DRA2 boxes. I was organizing the
boxes to make sure they were in the
correct order by reading level and to
see if each folder has three books.
While organizing the boxes there
was a group of students working on
a science project about electrical
circuits. The group asked if I could
video tape them for their project,
they had to explain electrical
circuits. I have had a great
experience with Mrs. Carpenter’s
fourth grade class and have gained
so much new knowledge.
2. When helping out in Mrs.
Carpenter’s class there were some
challenging moments. When
working with individual students
like I usually do on the days I go
can be challenging. I work alot with
students who need a little extra help
with working on assignments or
focusing. Sometimes these students
have a hard time working on their
assignments and can result in
having a difficult time working with
me. I have to repeat myself multiple
times some of the time when trying
to ask a couple of students to quiet
down and focus on their
assignments. Grading was also
challenging at the time because I
was still adjusting to my new
glasses so it was still hard to see but
I managed to finish scoring the
math tests. After grading the math
tests for 2 hours my eyes and head
hurt from it. Besides those the
fieldwork I have been doing is
amazing and a memorable
experience.
3. The main takeaway I have had in
Mrs. Carpenter’s class this semester
is to focus on helping student learn
the best they can. I have learned you
must change the way you teach to
fit the needs of the students, which
Mrs. Carpenter does as much as she
can for her students. I have noticed
she will change her style to have
students improve their learning.
Some students were not turning in
their homework or assignments, so
Mrs. Carpenter decided that
students would have to have her
sign off on their planner. I have
tried my best in her classroom to
help students as much as I can. One
of the students has dyslexia so when
working on her quizzes I help her
by reading the questions out loud to
her as well as the answer choices.
Another student I have worked with
needs help focusing since he is
distracted easily. To help him I
work in the middle room with him
because there are less distractions
and it is a quiet environment to stay
on task. There is so many students I
have now worked with in the
classroom and all of them have their
own academic needs, Mrs.
Carpenter has tried to meet all of
their needs to the best of her ability.
I want to be like Mrs. Carpenter,
helping her students learn and grow.
4. I have been so grateful for this
amazing experience in a 4th grade
classroom. I have learned so much
from my mentor Mrs. Carpenter,
from all the tips she has given me
this semester. One thing I really
enjoyed was getting to grade the
math tests because I got to
understand what my teachers go
through when grading. I also really
enjoyed working with individual
students. I was able to build
relationships with the students I
worked with the most, to the point
where they would ask for my help
from Mrs. Carpenter. I was able to
do reading groups with the students
a lot at the beginning of the
semester, which give me the chance
to get to know all the students in the
class. I have grown because at the
beginning of the semester I was
nervous about the students liking
me. Now the students talk to me a
lot, tell me stories about their life,
and ask for my help. I have become
less nervous when talking to the
students and have been more
confident when asking them to
refocus on their work than before. I
feel like I am in a better position
now than at the beginning of the
year to be a teacher.
