ABSTRACT

The research area is located on southern and eastern side of Tangkuban Parahu
Mountain, Ciater, Subang, West Java. The aim of this research is to know the geothermal
characteristic of research area by using satellite imagery analysis and geothermal hydro
chemical approaches. Remote sensing used in this research is land surface temperature
method to know the temperature of the soil surface around the manifestation and its
distribution on research area. Hydro chemical method is used to determine the type of
hotspring water and its maturity level, as well as to estimate the temperature of the
underground reservoir using the geothermometer of water at hot springs found in the study
area.
Five hot springs are mapped in the research area, i.e. Domas, Ciater 1 and 2, Kancah,
and Maribaya hotspring. The result of research from land surface temperature analysis shows
that there is no tendency between hot water temperatures with land surface temperature
analysis on research area. Only a hot spring, Domas hotspring, which shows relative relation
of water temperature and land surface temperature which said hotspring has the highest value
on both parameters. A study of land use is recommended in support of land surface
temperature analysis to reduce the effects of residential areas and other urbanization activities
on the results of the calculations.
The results of the hydro chemical method show that the entire sample is divided into
three types of water: bicarbonate water for MBY-01 and CRG-01; water sulphate-chloride for
KNC-01, CTR-01, and CTR-02; and water sulfate for DMS-01, while for the maturity level
each hot water indicates that all water is included into the immature water and indicates that
all of surface geothermal manifestations in the study area are strongly influenced by meteoric
water and does not represent reservoir water from below. The temperature of the DMS-01
water sample calculation, which has sulfate water type, is selected to be the most plausibe
temperature value in the calculation of subsurface temperature, with a temperature range of
81-97 ºC. The calculation result has a low temperature range indicating that the
geothermometer calculation is likely to not reflect the temperature of the reservoir. From the
above analysis result, there is a tendency of declining value of springs temperature and land
surface temperature around geothermal manifestation with water type from result of
laboratory analysis.
