Purpose
This document describes the CX310 10GE converged switch module of the E9000 server in
terms of its features, installation, removal, and configuration.
The product features and commands for the Ethernet switching plane of the switch modules
vary according to the software version. For details, see the documents listed in the following
table.
NOTE
Run the display version command on the switching plane CLI and select a reference document based on
Switch Version or Software Version displayed in the command output.

1 Safety Instructions
General Instructions
l Comply with all local laws and regulations when installing the hardware. These Safety
Instructions are only a supplement.
l Observe the instructions that accompany all "DANGER", "WARNING", "CAUTION",
and "NOTE" symbols in this document. Follow them in conjunction with these Safety
Instructions.
l Observe all safety instructions provided on the device labels when installing hardware.

l Operations involving high voltages or moving equipment must be performed by
authorized, qualified personnel.
l Take protective measures against radio interference before operating the device in

Personal Safety
l Only personnel certified or authorized by Huawei are allowed to install the hardware.
l Discontinue any dangerous operations and take protective measures. Report anything
that could cause personal injury or equipment damage to a project supervisor.
l Do not move devices or install racks and power cables in hazardous weather conditions.
l Wear clean protective gloves, ESD clothing, a protective hat, and protective shoes, as
shown in Figure 1-1.
l For lifting or carrying hardware, ensure load limits and manpower provisions conform to
legal specifications.
l Remove any conductive objects (such as watches and jewelry), as shown in Figure 1-2.

Equipment Safety
l Use the recommended power cables.
l Use power cables only as intended.
l Hold hardware by the handles or bottom when moving it.
l Exercise caution when using tools.
l Connect the power cables to separate power distribution units (PDUs) for active/standby
operation. This makes power supply more reliable.
Transportation Precautions
l Use a logistics company that complies with international standards for transporting
electronics.
l Transport hardware in its original packaging.
l If the original packaging is unavailable, package heavy, bulky parts (such as chassis and
blades) and fragile parts (such as PCIe GPUs and SSDs) separately.
NOTE
Use the Huawei Server Compatibility Checker to check the parts supported by a compute node or
server.
l Power off all hardware before transportation.
CAUTION
To reduce the risk of personal injury, comply with local regulations with regard to the
maximum weight one person is permitted to carry.

2.1 Functions
The CX310 is a switching control unit that provides data switching function for compute
nodes in the system and centrally provides service and management ports to connect to
external devices.
The CX310 switch modules are installed in the rear slots of the E9000 chassis and connected
to compute nodes, storage nodes, and management modules through the E9000 midplane. The
switch modules perform switching of internal data packets and control and management
packets to provide high-speed data transmission.
Table 2-1 describes functions of the CX310 converged switching plane.

Installation Positions
The CX310 can be installed in the four slots at the rear of the E9000 chassis. The four slots
are 1E, 2X, 3X, and 4E, as shown in Figure 2-2.

NOTE
The numbers on the left side are port serial numbers. The arrow direction of a triangle indicates the
direction of a port.
ESN
An Equipment Serial Number (ESN) uniquely identifies a server. An ESN is required when
you apply for technical support from Huawei.
3 Vendor code (two characters). The code 10 indicates Huawei, and other
values indicate outsourcing vendors.
2.3 Ports
The CX310 provides ports for users to operate and configure. The ports are used to send and
receive data.
The CX310 Ethernet ports are numbered in the Slot number/Subcard number/Port number
format.
l Slot number: indicates the slot number of the current switch module. Its value ranges
from 1 to 4, from left to right mapping to slot numbers 1E, 2X, 3X, and 4E.
l Subcard number: indicates the number of a subcard supported by switching service ports.
Its value ranges from 1 to 19.
l Port number: indicates the sequence number of a port on a subcard.
For details about subcard numbers and port numbers, see Table 2-2 and Table 2-3.
For example, if the CX310 is in slot 2X, the first GE port on the upper right on the panel is
numbered 10GE 2/17/16, as shown in Figure 2-5.
2.4 Indicators
By observing the indicators, you can determine the current operating status of the CX310.
Table 2-4 describes the indicators on the CX310 panel.
l Mezz 1 connects to the converged switching plane of the CX310s in slots 2X and 3X.
l Mezz 2 connects to the converged switching plane of the CX310s in slots 1E and 4E.

The following describes the mapping between the CX310s and mezzanine modules. For
example, the CX310s are installed in slots 2X and 3X and connect to Mezz 1.
The MZ311 provides four 10GE optical ports (ports 1 to 4). Ports 1 and 3 map to the
converged switching plane of the CX310 in slot 2X. Ports 2 and 4 map to the converged
switching plane of the CX310 in slot 3X.

Procedure
Step 1 Install the chassis.
Step 2 Determine the position for installing the CX310 in the chassis. Figure 3-2 shows the slot
numbers.
2. Raise the two ejector levers on the switch module filler panel completely, and pull the
filler panel horizontally out of the chassis. See (2) and (3) in Figure 3-3.
3. Store the switch module filler panel for future use.
Step 4 Install the CX310.
1. Raise the two ejector levers on the CX310 completely and push the CX310 horizontally
into the chassis as far as it will go. See (1) and (2) in Figure 3-4.
2. Lower the two ejector levers on the CX310 until the CX310 is completely inserted. See
(3) in Figure 3-4.
3. Use a Phillips screwdriver to tighten the two M3 captive screws on the CX310. See (4)
in Figure 3-4.
Step 5 Determine the connection relationships between signal cables and ports.
NOTE
The BMC serial port and SYS serial port are standard RJ45 ports and are connected in the same way.
3. Remove the dust-proof caps from the optical cable. See (1) in Figure 3-8.
4. Insert the optical cable into the optical module. See (2) in Figure 3-8.
Step 8 Check the indicator status after the CX310 is powered on. See Table 2-4.

Procedure
Step 1 Determine the CX310 to be removed. Figure 3-10 shows the slot numbers.
Step 2 Determine the connection relationships between signal cables and ports on the CX310. Figure
3-11 shows the CX310 port types and numbers.
NOTE
The BMC serial port and SYS serial port are standard RJ45 ports and are disconnected in the same way.
4. Remove the optical module horizontally from the optical port, as shown in Figure 3-14.
If 10GE optical modules and cables have been removed and 40GE optical modules and
cables do not need to be removed, go to Step 5.
2. Raise the two ejector levers on the CX310 completely and pull the switch module
horizontally out of the chassis. See (2) and (3) in Figure 3-15.
3. Lower the ejector levers on the CX310. See (4) in Figure 3-15.
NOTICE
An ESD bag holds only one switch module.

log in to the switching plane CLI for routine maintenance as
the new user.
Configure switch module Configure the switching service data supported by the CX310

NOTE
Switch modules have a virtual serial port COM1. The virtual serial port is used by the built-in software
system in a switch module to manage the switch module. Note the following about the virtual serial port:
l Users cannot log in to the virtual serial port.
l The default password is Huawei#123.
l Do not set or change the virtual serial port password. Otherwise, some switch module functions fail.
l If the password is changed, run the undo authentication-mode or undo set authentication
password command to delete the new login password.

Software
PuTTY.exe is free software. You can download it from the Internet. PuTTY 0.60 or later is
required for login over a serial port.
Procedure
Step 1 Log in to the BMC CLI.
Step 2 Log in to the HMM WebUI. For details, see 6.6 Logging In to the HMM WebUI.
Step 3 Perform operations based on the MM910 versions.
l If the MM910 version is (U54) 2.20 or earlier, go to Step 4.
l If the MM910 version is later than (U54) 2.20, go to Step 8.
You can run the smmget -l smm -d version command on the MM910 CLI to check the
software version.
Step 4 In the navigation tree on HMM Web, choose System Management > Network
Management.
The Network Management page is displayed.
Step 5 Click the swiN tab.
The IP Address page is displayed, as shown in Figure 4-2.
l N indicates the slot number of the current switch module. Its value ranges from 1 to 4,
mapping to slot numbers 1E, 2X, 3X, and 4E from left to right.
l fabric indicates the converged switching plane.
Step 6 Select a switching plane for which the IP address is to be configured, and enter the IP address
and subnet mask.
Step 7 Click Modify, and complete the modification as prompted. Then click Query to check that
the settings take effect.
The IP address configuration is complete.
Step 8 On HMM Web, choose Chassis Settings.
The Chassis Settings page is displayed.
Step 9 In the navigation tree on the left, choose Network Settings > Swi.
Step 10 Click Edit to edit the IP addresses of management network ports in the converged switching
plane of switch modules in specific slots.
Fabric indicates the converged switching plane.
Step 11 Click Deliver.
The IP addresses of converged switching plane management network ports are successfully
set.

If you want to log in to a server CLI over a serial port, prepare the following hardware:
l PC with an RS232 serial port
l DB9-RJ45 cable
Procedure
l Log in to the CLI of a switching plane over SSH.
Step 1 Connect the Ethernet port on a PC to the MGMT ports on the active and standby MM910s
over a local area network (LAN).
Step 2 Connect to the IP address of a switching plane over SSH to log in to the switching plane CLI.
PuTTY is used as an example for login over SSH. For details, see 6.2 Logging In to the
MM910 CLI over a Network Port by Using PuTTY.

l Log in to the CLI of a switching plane over SOL.
Step 1 Connect the Ethernet port on the PC to the MGMT port on the active or standby MM910
over a LAN.
Figure 4-3 shows the network connections.
NOTE
l For MM910 (U54) 2.25 or earlier, the MM910 communicates with external network devices through
the ports on switch modules in slots 2X and 3X by default. For MM910 later than (U54) 2.25, the
MM910 communicates with external network devices through the MGMT port by default. To query
the MM910 version, see the MM910 Management Module V100R001 User Guide.
l You can run the outportmode command to change the MM910 management network port
connection mode. If the MM910 communicates with external network devices through the ports on
switch modules in slots 2X and 3X, do not connect the MM910 MGMT port and the switch module
ports to the same network. Otherwise, a network storm will occur and the network will be
interrupted. For details, see the MM910 Management Module V100R001 Command Reference.
Step 2 Connect to the MM910 floating IP address over SSH to log in to the MM910 CLI.
PuTTY is used as an example for login over SSH. For details, see 6.2 Logging In to the
MM910 CLI over a Network Port by Using PuTTY.
Step 3 Log in to the CLI of a switching plane over MM910 SOL.
For details, see 6.1 Logging In to a Compute Node or a Switch Module over MM910
SOL.

l Log in to the CLI of a switching plane over a serial port.
Step 1 Use a DB9-RJ45 cable to connect the RS232 serial port of the PC to the SYS serial port on
the CX310 panel.
Step 2 Use a serial port communication tool to log in to the CLI of a switching plane.
Set the key communication parameters as follows:
l Serial line to connect to: COMn
l Speed (baud): 115200
l Data bits: 8
l Stop bits: 1
l Parity: None
l Flow control: None

version of the converged switching plane:

The BIOS initializes hardware, such as serial ports or dual in-line memory modules
(DIMMs), reads the kernel image from the flash memory to the random access memory
(RAM), and starts the operating system (OS).

l Change the initial passwords of the BIOS.
NOTICE
1. When the software version of the switching plane is earlier than 1.2.1.0.39, you must
remember the new BIOS password to reset a password.
2. The BIOS can be accessed only from the switching plane CLI after you log in to the CLI
over a serial port.
Step 1 Run the following command on the CLI of the converged switching plane to restart the
converged switching plane:

No data preparation is required for this operation.
Software
Procedure
Step 1 Log in to the converged switching plane CLI.
Next startup saved-configuration file indicates the configuration file for the next
startup. The displayed information indicates that the configuration file is in vrpcfg.zip
format.
NOTE
The configuration file must be a *.zip or *.cfg file. If the configuration file is a *.dat file, this file
cannot be synchronized to the MM910.
If the configuration file is a *.dat file, perform the following operations:
1. Run the save Configuration file name command to convert the configuration file into a *.zip
or *.cfg file.
2. Run the startup saved-configuration Configuration file name command to set the
configuration file used for the next startup to the saved *.zip or *.cfg file.
For details, see the CX110 and CX31x Series Switch Modules V100R001C00 Command
Reference.
2. Save the converged switching plane configuration file from the CX310 to the MM910.

NOTICE
If a configuration file synchronization failure message is displayed, contact Huawei
technical support.
The value of the parameter Software Version is the software version of the MM910.
8. Select an operation based on the MM910 software version.
– If the software version is earlier than (U54) 3.00, go to Step 4.9.
– If the software version is (U54) 3.00 or later, perform Step 4.10 to Step 4.11.
9. Use a cross-platform file transfer tool, and enter the MM910 floating IP address to
download the configuration file to the PC in binary file transmission mode.
– The configuration file of the converged switching plane on the MM910 is
2_1_1.cfg. The file name is different from that on the switch module.
– The path for storing the configuration file is /common/flash/bladecfg/swiN.
N is the CX310 slot number that ranges from 1 to 4, which map to the logical slot
numbers 1E, 2X, 3X, and 4E from left to right.
WinSCP is used as an example cross-platform file transfer tool. For details, see 6.8
Transferring Files Using WinSCP.
NOTE
Set the WinSCP transfer mode to the binary mode as follows: Press the shortcut keys Ctrl+Alt+P.
The Preferences window is displayed. In the navigation tree on the left, choose Transfer, and
click Binary and OK.
10. Run the following command on the MM910 CLI to export the configuration file of the
converged switching plane:
root@SMM:/# swiconfexport swiN
N is the slot number of a switch module. Its value ranges from 1 to 4, mapping to switch
module slots 1E, 2X, 3X, and 4E from left to right.
The following information is displayed with the configuration file name and directory.

11. Use a cross-platform file transfer tool, and enter the MM910 floating IP address to
download the configuration file shown in the command output to the PC in binary file
transmission mode.
WinSCP is used as an example cross-platform file transfer tool. For details, see 6.8
Transferring Files Using WinSCP.
NOTE
Set the WinSCP transfer mode to the binary mode as follows: Press the shortcut keys Ctrl+Alt+P.
The Preferences window is displayed. In the navigation tree on the left, choose Transfer, and
click Binary and OK.
After the configuration file is downloaded to the PC and decompressed, the converged
switching plane configuration file is 2_1_1.cfg.

Scenarios
Restore the configuration file to the CX310.
Use one of the following methods to restore the converged switching plane configuration file:
l Power on the converged switching plane. The system automatically uses the
configuration file of the MM910 to restore configuration data. This section does not
describe the automatic restoration.
l Upload and load the configuration file of the converged switching plane to the MM910
and restart the converged switching plane. The system automatically uses the
configuration file of the MM910 to restore configuration data. For details, see
Procedure.
Prerequisites
Conditions
The PC contains a configuration file.
Procedure
Step 1 Log in to the converged switching plane CLI.
The value of the parameter Software Version is the software version of the MM910.
4. Select an operation based on the MM910 software version.
– If the software version is earlier than (U54) 3.00, perform Step 3.5 to Step 3.7.
– If the software version is (U54) 3.00 or later, perform Step 3.8 to Step 3.9.
5. Run the following command on the CLI of the converged switching plane to disable
converged switching plane configuration synchronization to the MM910 before a restart:
<HUAWEI> config-sync disable before-reboot
If the following information is displayed, the setting is successful:
XCU won't synchronize configuration to SMM before reboot.
6. Use a cross-platform file transfer tool and enter the floating IP address of the MM910 to
transfer the configuration file on the PC to the MM910 in binary file transmission mode.
NOTE
You are advised to back up and rename the existing configuration file on the MM910 before the
upload. Otherwise, it will be replaced by the uploaded configuration file. For details about how to
back up the configuration file, see 4.9 Backing Up the Configuration File.
– The configuration file name is 2_1_1.cfg.
– The path for storing the configuration file is /common/flash/bladecfg/swiN.
N ranges from 1 to 4, mapping to switch module slots 1E, 2X, 3X, and 4E from left
to right.
This section uses WinSCP as the cross-platform file transfer tool. For details, see 6.8
Transferring Files Using WinSCP.
