About This Document

Purpose
This document describes the CX310 10GE converged switch module of the E9000 server in
terms of its features, installation, removal, and configuration.

The product features and commands for the Ethernet switching plane of the switch modules
vary according to the software version. For details, see the documents listed in the following
table.

Run the display version command on the switching plane CLI and select a reference document based on
Switch Version or Software Version displayed in the command output.

1 Safety Instructions

General Instructions
l Comply with all local laws and regulations when installing the hardware. These Safety
Instructions are only a supplement.
l Observe the instructions that accompany all "DANGER", "WARNING", "CAUTION",
and "NOTE" symbols in this document. Follow them in conjunction with these Safety
Instructions.
l Observe all safety instructions provided on the device labels when installing hardware.
Follow them in conjunction with these Safety Instructions.
l Operations involving high voltages or moving equipment must be performed by
authorized, qualified personnel.
l Take protective measures against radio interference before operating the device in
residential areas.

Personal Safety
l Only personnel certified or authorized by Huawei are allowed to install the hardware.
l Discontinue any dangerous operations and take protective measures. Report anything
that could cause personal injury or equipment damage to a project supervisor.
l Do not move devices or install racks and power cables in hazardous weather conditions.
l Wear clean protective gloves, ESD clothing, a protective hat, and protective shoes, as
shown in Figure 1-1.

l For lifting or carrying hardware, ensure load limits and manpower provisions conform to
legal specifications.
l Remove any conductive objects (such as watches and jewelry), as shown in Figure 1-2.

Figure 1-3 shows how to wear an ESD wrist strap.


1. Secure the wrist strap around your wrist.
2. Fasten the strap buckle and ensure that the ESD wrist strap is snug against the skin.
3. Insert the attached ground terminal into the jack on the grounded rack or chassis.

l Exercise caution when using tools that could cause personal injury.
l Use a stacker when lifting hardware above shoulder height.
l Avoid any contact with high-voltage cables.
l Ensure that a device is properly grounded before powering it on.
l Do not use a ladder alone.
l Do not look into optical ports without eye protection.

Equipment Safety
l Use the recommended power cables.
l Use power cables only as intended.
l Hold hardware by the handles or bottom when moving it.
l Exercise caution when using tools.
l Connect the power cables to separate power distribution units (PDUs) for active/standby
operation. This makes power supply more reliable.

Transportation Precautions
l Use a logistics company that complies with international standards for transporting
electronics.
l Transport hardware in its original packaging.
l If the original packaging is unavailable, package heavy, bulky parts (such as chassis and
blades) and fragile parts (such as PCIe GPUs and SSDs) separately.
NOTE

Use the Huawei Server Compatibility Checker to check the parts supported by a compute node or
server.
l Power off all hardware before transportation.

Weight Limits Per Person

CAUTION
To reduce the risk of personal injury, comply with local regulations with regard to the
maximum weight one person is permitted to carry.

2.1 Functions
The CX310 is a switching control unit that provides data switching function for compute
nodes in the system and centrally provides service and management ports to connect to
external devices.
The CX310 switch modules are installed in the rear slots of the E9000 chassis and connected
to compute nodes, storage nodes, and management modules through the E9000 midplane. The
switch modules perform switching of internal data packets and control and management
packets to provide high-speed data transmission.
Table 2-1 describes functions of the CX310 converged switching plane.

The CX310 can be installed in the four slots at the rear of the E9000 chassis. The four slots
are 1E, 2X, 3X, and 4E, as shown in Figure 2-2.

ESN
An Equipment Serial Number (ESN) uniquely identifies a server. An ESN is required when
you apply for technical support from Huawei.

Callout No. Description

1 ESN ID (two characters), which is 21 by default.

2 Material identification code (eight characters), that is, processing code.

3 Vendor code (two characters). The code 10 indicates Huawei, and other
values indicate outsourcing vendors.

4 Year and month (two characters).


l The first character indicates the year, where:
– Digits 1 to 9 indicate 2001 to 2009, respectively.
– Letters A to H indicate 2010 to 2017, respectively.
– Letters J to N indicate 2018 to 2022, respectively.
– Letters P to Y indicate 2023 to 2032, respectively.
NOTE
The years from 2010 are represented by upper-case letters excluding I, O, and Z
because the three letters are similar to the digits 1, 0, and 2.
l The second character indicates the month, where:
– Digits 1 to 9 indicate January to September, respectively.
– Letters A to C indicate October to December, respectively.

5 Serial number (six characters).

6 RoHS compliance (one character). Y indicates environmental protection


processing.

7 Internal model, that is, product name.

2.3 Ports
The CX310 provides ports for users to operate and configure. The ports are used to send and
receive data.
The CX310 Ethernet ports are numbered in the Slot number/Subcard number/Port number
format.

l Slot number: indicates the slot number of the current switch module. Its value ranges
from 1 to 4, from left to right mapping to slot numbers 1E, 2X, 3X, and 4E.
l Subcard number: indicates the number of a subcard supported by switching service ports.
Its value ranges from 1 to 19.
l Port number: indicates the sequence number of a port on a subcard.
For details about subcard numbers and port numbers, see Table 2-2 and Table 2-3.
For example, if the CX310 is in slot 2X, the first GE port on the upper right on the panel is
numbered 10GE 2/17/16, as shown in Figure 2-5.

2.4 Indicators
By observing the indicators, you can determine the current operating status of the CX310.

2.6 Logical Architecture


The CX310 logical architecture consists of three modules: the baseboard management
controller (BMC) module, CPU system module, and converged switch module.
l The BMC module is a management module that powers on or off the node, monitors the
system, and upgrades components.
l The CPU system module is the controlling core that processes network protocol packets
and manages user configurations.
l The converged switch module is the data processing core that forwards data between
internal data processing modules and external network devices.

2.7 Internal Chassis Networking


Figure 2-8 shows the internal chassis networking for the CX310 and compute nodes. Ports on
compute nodes for connecting to the CX310 are provided by two mezzanine modules as
follows:

l Mezz 1 connects to the converged switching plane of the CX310s in slots 2X and 3X.
l Mezz 2 connects to the converged switching plane of the CX310s in slots 1E and 4E.

The following describes the mapping between the CX310s and mezzanine modules. For
example, the CX310s are installed in slots 2X and 3X and connect to Mezz 1.

2. Raise the two ejector levers on the switch module filler panel completely, and pull the
filler panel horizontally out of the chassis. See (2) and (3) in Figure 3-3.
3. Store the switch module filler panel for future use.
Step 4 Install the CX310.
1. Raise the two ejector levers on the CX310 completely and push the CX310 horizontally
into the chassis as far as it will go. See (1) and (2) in Figure 3-4.

2. Lower the two ejector levers on the CX310 until the CX310 is completely inserted. See
(3) in Figure 3-4.
3. Use a Phillips screwdriver to tighten the two M3 captive screws on the CX310. See (4)
in Figure 3-4.
Step 5 Determine the connection relationships between signal cables and ports.

Step 7 Connect an optical module and cable.


1. Determine the optical module type and the optical port to be connected depending on site
requirements.
2. Insert the optical module into the optical port until the optical module is locked, as
shown in Figure 3-7.

3.2 Removing the CX310


Scenarios
Remove the CX310 from the E9000 chassis. Before the operation, be familiar with the
hardware devices.
To replace a switch module, see section "Replacing a Switch Module" in the E9000 Server
V100R001 User Guide.

Impact on the System


After the switch module is removed, all services running on the switch module stop.

1. Determine the optical module type and the optical port to be removed depending on site
requirements.

3. Install the dust-proof cap for the optical cable. See (3) in Figure 3-13.

Step 5 Remove the CX310.

Switch modules have a virtual serial port COM1. The virtual serial port is used by the built-in software

4.3 Setting an IP Address for the Management Network

l The IP address of the management network port in the converged switching plane can be
set on the HMM WebUI. For details, see Procedure.
l On the converged switching plane CLI, run the ip address command to set the IP
address of the management network port in the converged switching plane. For details,
see the CX110 and CX31x Series Switch Modules V100R001C00 Command Reference.
l On the MM910 CLI, run the swipcontrol command to set IP address of the management
network port in the converged switching plane. For details, see the MM910
Management Module V100R001 Command Reference.

Procedure
Step 1 Log in to the BMC CLI.
Step 2 Log in to the HMM WebUI. For details, see 6.6 Logging In to the HMM WebUI.
Step 3 Perform operations based on the MM910 versions.
l If the MM910 version is (U54) 2.20 or earlier, go to Step 4.
l If the MM910 version is later than (U54) 2.20, go to Step 8.
You can run the smmget -l smm -d version command on the MM910 CLI to check the
software version.
Step 4 In the navigation tree on HMM Web, choose System Management > Network
Management.
The Network Management page is displayed.
Step 5 Click the swiN tab.

Step 6 Select a switching plane for which the IP address is to be configured, and enter the IP address
and subnet mask.
Step 7 Click Modify, and complete the modification as prompted. Then click Query to check that
the settings take effect.
The IP address configuration is complete.
Step 8 On HMM Web, choose Chassis Settings.
The Chassis Settings page is displayed.
Step 9 In the navigation tree on the left, choose Network Settings > Swi.
Step 10 Click Edit to edit the IP addresses of management network ports in the converged switching
plane of switch modules in specific slots.
Fabric indicates the converged switching plane.
Step 11 Click Deliver.
The IP addresses of converged switching plane management network ports are successfully

1. Connect to the MM910 floating IP address over SSH to log in to the MM910 CLI.
PuTTY is used as an example for login over SSH. For details, see 6.2 Logging In to the
MM910 CLI over a Network Port by Using PuTTY.
2. Configure a gateway address for the Ethernet switching plane so that the switching plane
can properly communicate with the PC.

The parameters are described as follows:
– N: specifies the slot number of a switch module. Its value ranges from 1 to 4,

Log in to the CLI of the converged switching plane for the CX310 by using one of the

MM910 SOL screen.
l Over a serial port: Connect a serial cable to the SYS serial port of the CX310 and log in

the ports on switch modules in slots 2X and 3X by default. For MM910 later than (U54) 2.25, the
MM910 communicates with external network devices through the MGMT port by default. To query

l You can run the outportmode command to change the MM910 management network port
connection mode. If the MM910 communicates with external network devices through the ports on
switch modules in slots 2X and 3X, do not connect the MM910 MGMT port and the switch module

4.6 Changing Initial User Passwords


Change all the initial user passwords in the CX310, including changing the initial user
passwords of the BMC, converged switching plane, and BIOS, to enhance system operation
and maintenance (O&M) security.

NOTE

l The password complexity check is enabled by default.


l Use passwords that meet complexity requirements.
l For security purposes, change the initial password upon the first login, and then change the password
periodically.

The BIOS initializes hardware, such as serial ports or dual in-line memory modules
(DIMMs), reads the kernel image from the flash memory to the random access memory
(RAM), and starts the operating system (OS).

Back up the configuration file of the CX310 so that the configuration data can be restored if
faults occur.
Use one of the following methods to back up the converged switching plane configuration
file:

l Run the reboot command and enter N as prompted to ensure that the configuration file is
synchronized to the MM910.
l Export the configuration file of the MM910, and download the configuration file from

5 Restoring the Configuration File

Scenarios
Restore the configuration file to the CX310.
Use one of the following methods to restore the converged switching plane configuration file:
l Power on the converged switching plane. The system automatically uses the
configuration file of the MM910 to restore configuration data. This section does not
describe the automatic restoration.
l Upload and load the configuration file of the converged switching plane to the MM910
and restart the converged switching plane. The system automatically uses the
configuration file of the MM910 to restore configuration data. For details, see
Procedure.

Prerequisites
Conditions
The PC contains a configuration file.

Procedure
Step 1 Log in to the converged switching plane CLI.

Step 2 Log in to the MM910 CLI.

Step 3 Restore the converged switching plane configuration file.


1. Connect the Ethernet port on a PC to the MGMT ports on the active and standby
MM910s over a local area network (LAN).
2. Connect to the MM910 floating IP address over SSH to log in to the MM910 CLI.
PuTTY is used as an example for login over SSH. For details, see 6.2 Logging In to the
MM910 CLI over a Network Port by Using PuTTY.
3. Query the version of the MM910.
smmget -l smm -d version

Scenarios
Use PuTTY to remotely log in to a server over a local area network (LAN) and to configure
and maintain the server.

NOTE

l Only the management modules provide the MGMT port.


l To log in to a compute node or switch module, log in to the management module first. Then log in to
the compute node or switch module over SOL. For details, see 6.1 Logging In to a Compute Node
or a Switch Module over MM910 SOL.

Procedure
Step 1 Connect the local PC and the MGMT port on the MM910 through a network cable.

Step 2 Set an IP address and a subnet mask or add route information for the PC so that the PC can
properly communicate with the server.
You can run the Ping Server IP address command on the PC command-line interface (CLI) to
check the communication between the PC and the server.
Step 3 Double-click PuTTY.exe.
The PuTTY Configuration window is displayed.
Step 4 In the navigation tree on the left, choose Connection > SSH.

Step 5 Set the login parameters.


The parameters are described as follows:
l Host Name (or IP address): Enter the IP address of the server, for example,
191.100.34.32.
l Port: Retain the default value 22.
l Connection type: Retain the default value SSH.
l Close window on exit: Retain the default value Only on clean exit.
NOTE

Set Host Name and Saved Sessions, and click Save. In this way, you can double-click the saved record
in Saved Sessions to log in to the server next time.

Step 6 In the navigation tree, choose Session and select SSH for Connection type.

l The server is configured for the first time at a new site, and you need to perform initial

l The server cannot be remotely connected because the network is faulty, and you need to
locate the fault.
NOTE

The server that is logged in to is a management module, compute node, or switch module in an
E9000 chassis.
When logging in to a management module, you must connect the serial port to the COM serial
port of the MM910.
When logging in to a compute node, you can connect the serial port to the SYS serial port or BMC
chip of the compute node.
l The E9000 compute nodes do not provide serial ports. To log in to a compute node over a
serial port, connect a multi-port cable to a universal connector port (UCP) and log in through
the serial port of the multi-port cable. If the compute node does not provide a UCP, you can
log in to the compute node only through a network port. For details, see 6.1 Logging In to a
Compute Node or a Switch Module over MM910 SOL.
l On the MM910 CLI, run the bmccomstate and switchcom commands to query and switch
the objects connected to the serial ports. For details, see the MM910 Management Module
V100R001 Command Reference.
When logging in to a switch module, you can connect the serial port to the Ethernet switching
plane, FC switching plane, or BMC chip.
l If the switch module panel has the BMC serial port and SYS serial port, the BMC serial port is
connected to the BMC chip, and the SYS serial port can be connected to the Ethernet
switching plane or FC switching plane.
l If the switch module panel has only the COM serial port, the COM serial port can be
connected to the Ethernet switching plane, FC switching plane, or BMC chip.
l If the switch module panel has only the BMC serial port, the BMC serial port is connected to
the BMC chip.
l On the MM910 CLI, run the bmccomstate and switchcom commands to query and switch the
objects connected to the serial ports. For details, see the MM910 Management Module
V100R001 Command Reference.

6.4 Powering On or Off a Switching Plane


Scenarios
Remotely power on the converged switching planes of the CX310 using any of the following
methods:
l Power on all switching planes of the CX310 on the HMM WebUI.
l On the MM910 CLI, run the powerstate command to power on or off the switching
planes of the CX310. For details, see the MM910 Management Module V100R001
Command Reference.
l On the BMC CLI, run the powerstate command to power on or off the switching planes
of the CX310. For details, see the E9000 Server V100R001 iMana 200 User Guide.
l If the chassis is not powered on, power it on, and all the switching planes of the CX310
will be powered on with the chassis. This section does not provide the operation details.
l If the chassis is powered off, the CX310 converged switching plane will be powered off
with the chassis.
l If the chassis is powered on but the CX310 is not installed, install the CX310, and all
switching planes of the CX310 will be automatically powered on after installation. This
section does not provide the operation details.
l If the chassis is powered on and the CX310 is installed, remove the CX310 to power off
the converged switching plane.

Impact on the System


When one switching plane of the CX310 is powered off, services running on all switching
planes stop.

Prerequisites
Software
PuTTY.exe is free software. You can download it from the Internet. PuTTY 0.60 or later is
required for login over a serial port.

Procedure
Step 1 Connect the RS232 serial port on the PC to the serial port marked with SYS on the CX310
panel.
Step 2 Save the current configuration data.

Step 3 Power on or off switching planes on the HMM WebUI.

6.5 Using the Local KVM Connected to the MM910


Scenarios
Use the local keyboard, video, and mouse (KVM) to perform any of the following operations:
l Log in to the MM910 CLI.
l Log in to the OS of a compute node.
l Mount the DVD drive to a compute node.
l Access a compute node or switch module over serial over LAN (SOL).
The local KVM function of the MM910 has the following restrictions:
l The CLI does not support text editor.
l The login to the system serial port of the compute node over SOL by using the local
KVM is supported.
NOTE

Once you have accessed the CLI of the active or standby MM910 or SOL screen (as shown in Figure
6-6) and the timeout timer has not expired, you can access the MM910 without entering the user name
and password again. For security purposes, run the exit command to exit the CLI when you do not need
to use the KVM.

Prerequisites
Data
l User name and password for logging in to the MM910
l User name and password for logging in to the compute node or switch module

Procedure
Step 1 Log in to the MM910 CLI.

Step 2 Connect the keyboard and mouse to the USB ports of the MM910.

Step 3 Use a VGA cable to connect the monitor to the VGA port of the MM910.
The main screen is displayed, as shown in Figure 6-6.

l If HMM WebUI login attempts fail for five consecutive times, the account is locked. It will be
automatically unlocked after 10 minutes. If you enter a password within this time, the lock is reset to
10 minutes even if the password is correct.
l An account can be used to log in to the HMM WebUI only through one IP address at a time. Other
logins through a different IP address forcibly log out the user who has logged in using the account.
l "This is the standby MM" is displayed for the WebUI of the standby MM910. The standby HMM
WebUI does not display component installation status. On the WebUI of the standby MM910, you
can only view monitoring information about the active MM910, set the DHCP and static IP
addresses, and set and query the thresholds and hysteresis of the sensors of the standby MM910. To
perform other operations, log in to the WebUI of the active MM910.
l For details about the operations on the WebUI, see the Online Help.

l For MM910 (U54) 2.25 or earlier, the MM910 communicates with external network devices through
the ports on switch modules in slots 2X and 3X by default. For MM910 later than (U54) 2.25, the
MM910 communicates with external network devices through the MGMT port by default. To query
the MM910 version, see the MM910 Management Module V100R001 User Guide.
l You can run the outportmode command to change the MM910 management network port
connection mode. If the MM910 communicates with external network devices through the switch
module ports, do not connect the MM910 MGMT port and the switch module ports to the same
network. Otherwise, a network storm will occur and the network will be interrupted. For details, see
the MM910 Management Module V100R001 Command Reference.

Step 2 Set an IP address and a subnet mask or add route information for the PC, and ensure that the
PC can properly communicate with the MM910.

Step 3 Open Internet Explorer, click and choose Internet Options.


The Internet Options dialog box is displayed.

NOTE

Internet Explorer 11 in Windows 7 is used as an example.

Step 4 Choose Connections and click LAN Settings.


The LAN Settings dialog box is displayed.
Step 5 In the Proxy server group box, deselect Use a proxy server for your LAN and click OK.

Server series OSs. To ensure a successful login to the HMM WebUI, add the MM910 IP
address to the trusted sites zone as follows:
1. On Internet Explorer, choose Tools > Internet Options.
The Internet Options dialog box is displayed.
2. Click the Security tab.
3. Click Trusted sites, and click Sites.
4. In the Trusted sites dialog box, click Add to add the MM910 IP address to the trusted
site list, and click Close.
5. Refresh the page.
6. In the status bar of the browser, check whether the MM910 IP address is in the Trusted
sites zone.
Step 9 Click Continue to this website (not recommended).
The HMM WebUI login page is displayed.

Step 10 Set the login parameters.


NOTE

The login page varies slightly with the HMM software version.
l Language: Select the language to be used.
l User name: Enter the user name. The default user name is root.
l Password: Enter the password. The default password is Huawei12#$.
If User must change password at next login is selected when users are created on the
LDAP server, logins will fail. Deselect this option on the LDAP server.
l Login To: Select This Machine for a local user. If the system manages domain users
over Active Directory (AD), select LDAP.

6.7 Configuring an FTP Server


Prerequisites
Software
wftpd32.exe: third-party free software used to transfer files between different platforms, for
example, from a PC to a switching plane of a switch module.

Procedure
Step 1 Connect a PC to the server by using a serial cable.

Step 2 Double-click wftpd32.exe.


The No log file open - WFTPD window is displayed.
Step 3 Choose Logging > Log Options.
The Logging Options dialog box is displayed.
Step 4 Select all check boxes except Winsock Calls, and click OK.

Step 5 Choose Security > Users/rights.


The User / Rights Security Dialog dialog box is displayed.
Step 6 Click New User. In the dialog box displayed, enter a user name (for example, vxworks) and
click OK.
The Change Password dialog box is displayed.
Step 7 Enter a password (for example, vxworks) in the New Password and Verify Password text
boxes, and click OK.

Step 8 Copy the upgrade file to a directory (for example, D:\FTP) on the PC.

The parameter descriptions are displayed as follows:
l Host name: Enter the IP address of the device to be connected, for example,
191.100.34.32.
l Port number: Retain the default value 22.
l User name: Enter the user name, for example, admin123.
l Password: Enter the password, for example, admin123.
l Private key file: Retain the default value None.
l Protocol: Retain the default value SFTP, and select Allow SCP fallback.
Step 4 Click Login.
The WinSCP file transfer page is displayed.

NOTE

l If a key file was not selected during the first login, a warning Continue connecting and add host
key to cache is displayed. Click Yes. The WinSCP file transfer page is displayed.
l If Windows 7 is used, in the left pane of the page, open the C:\Users\Administrator\Documents
directory, the device's /root directory is opened in the right pane by default.

Step 5 Create or delete folders in the left or right pane, or copy folders between panes as required.

6.9 Using the HMM WebUI to Collect Converged


Switching Plane Information
Prerequisites
To use the one-click full collection function of the MM910 to collect converged switching
plane logs, the following two conditions must be met:
l The MM910 software version is 6.00 or later.
l The converged switching plane software version is 5.30 or later.

Procedure
Step 1 Log in to the HMM WebUI.
For details, see 6.6 Logging In to the HMM WebUI.
Step 2 Choose System Management > Information Collection and set the information collection
parameters.
l Collected from: Select MM.
l Collected content: Select One-click full collection.
Step 3 Click Start Collection to start collecting logs.

Step 4 In the displayed dialog box, click Save to save the log file to the local PC.

Step 5 Decompress the one_touch_info_all.tar.gz file. The collected logs of the converged
switching plane are in the swin_fru2 folder.

A.1.1 Logging In to the CX310 BIOS

Scenarios
Log in to the CX310 BIOS through the CX310 serial port.

NOTE

The BIOS can be accessed only from the switching plane CLI after you log in to the CLI over a serial
port.

The BIOS initializes hardware, such as serial ports or dual in-line memory modules
(DIMMs), reads the kernel image from the flash memory to the random access memory
(RAM), and starts the operating system (OS). In the BIOS, you can load underlying software
and debug underlying devices.
