ANNUAL REPORT

FOREWORD

It is with immense pleasure; I present a detailed account of, all the


activities and achievements of the Vidyalaya during the academic year 2012-
2013. The period under report has witnessed a number of significant
achievement in different of areas of functioning of vidyalaya. Navodaya
Vidyalayas were established by the Government of India in 1986, in a phased
manner, as a part of the New Education Policy (NEP) of 1986 to provide good
quality modern education, to the talented children of predominantly rural areas,
without any consideration to their family’s socio-economic conditions. Jawahar
Navodaya Vidyalaya, Malampuzha, Palakkad, had its birth in a humble manner
in some dilapidated irrigation departments’ residential buildings on first
November 1988. Ever since its birth, it has hatched out 18 batches and the 19th
batch is appearing for CBSE Examinations this year.
It is my bounden duty to express gratitude to Deputy
commissioner, Cluster incharge and Assistant Commissioner of NVS, RO
Hyderabad for their valuable and strategic guidance.I would like to place on
record my gratitude for all the co operation extended by chairman VMC and
VAC Sri.Ali Asgar Pasha, Memers of VMC and VAC and other committees,
Deputy director Education, Palakkad, Principal’s of neighbouring vidyalaya’s
and PTC. I place on record my sincere appreciation for staff and students for
their commitment and hardwork.

A BRIEF REPORT OF VARIOUS ACTIVITIES AND ACHIEVEMENTS
OF VIDYALAYA

ADMISSION IN 2012-13
A total of 80 students were admitted in class 6th in june 2012. Under migration
policy 20 students were sent on migration in class 9th to JNV pachpahar,
Rajasthan and in turn 21 students from there joined this vidyalaya. The present
strength of the vidyalaya is 485 including staff wards.
STAFF POSITION
In addition to Principal and Vice Principal, PGT 06 nos., TGT 10 nos.,
Creative teachers 03 nos. PETs 02 nos., Librarian 01 no.10 non teaching Staff
and 07 group D are in position.03 PGT’s, one matron for Girls and one
computer faculty are also appointed on contract basis for the academic session
2012-13.
ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES
The current academic year started on 1st june 2012. There is vidyalaya
routine starting for 5.30 am till 10.30 pm in the night on all working days. The
daily schedule includes morning PT, Assembly at 7.10 am regular classes from
7.35 am to 1.35 pm. 3pm to 4.15 remedial class, evening games 4.30 pm to 5.45
pm, 6.45 to 8.15 pm evening study and self study till 10.30 pm. On Sundays and
holidays also the vidyalaya routine is fixed including supervised study, CCA
programme etc. Teaching staff supervise these activities on rotation basis and
there is a Master on duty to monitor and report the daily activities. There is
panel inspection every year by the team of officers comprising of cluster
incharge , Assistant Commissioner and TWO other principals of neighbouring
JNV’s. This year the panel inspection was on 8th and 9th of January 2013 and the
team consisted of Sri. B. S. Slaich ,Assistant Commissioner NVS RO
Hyderabad, Principal JNV Thrissur and Principal JNV Mahe. An Institution

plan was prepared by vidyalaya and all activities as per this institutional plan
and perspective academic plan received from NVS HQs. was undertaken in
different areas. ICT in teaching and learning encouraged and for this purpose a
smart room with computer, internet connection, LCD and interactive board is
available in this vidyalaya. A well equipped computer lab with 26 computers
with broadband connection is available for the use of students and staff.
Computers are also provided in the library, Staff room, Laboratories. Vidyalaya
has implemented CCE prescribed by CBSE.Parents are apprised of the progress
of their ward on parents day which falls on every 2nd Saturday.
ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENTS

In 2012 CBSE board exam the result of X Classes were100 %. Out of the
82 students 18 students secured full 10 points with outstanding results and 75
students secured distinction.
In CBSE board exam the result of XII were 100%. Out of the 42 students
appeared, 33 students’ secured distinctions and 9 students secured First classes.
It is a matter of pride to announce that. Master Adarsh Soman has obtained 466
/ 500 and he stands first in aggregate in class XII.

In class XII, Mas. Athul U of our school is placed among the 0.1%
toppers in all India level. He is awarded with Merit certificate by the CBSE and
cash prize of Rs.200/ each by PTC

In class X, 12 students of our Vidyalaya have received CBSE MERIT
CERTIFICATES for securing highest marks A1 and a cash prize of Rs.500 each
by Alumni association of our Vidyalaya

CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES:
The Students are given regular practice and training in classical music,
Art and SUPW activities. Selected students are getting trained in classical
dance, instrumental music, Band and traditional art forms.
ACHIEVEMENTS
Under “GURU SHISHYA PARAMPARA” in Regional cultural meet
oraganised by NVS this year 10 boys of our school have presented
“Tholppava koothu” A traditional folk art form.
Kum. MRK Sreelakshmi participated in district level hindi fortnight
celebration won first position in hindi elocution, hindi recitation.
She also secured two gold medals in English elocution under the title “Guru
Shishya Parampara”, one silver medal in creative writing and one bronze
medal in seminar which was conducted in Navodaya National Integration
Meet 2012 at Hyderabad.
Master Piyush Participated in hindi story writing competitionand secured 1st
position which was held in JNV Wynad.
CELEBRATIONS
As it is practised every year, different National and Religious festivals
like Independence Day, Republic Day, Gandhi Jayanthi, Janmashtami, Teachers
Day, Christmas and Onam are observed and celebrated with due importance in
the Vidyalaya.
SCHOOL LIBRARY
Our school has a rich and voluminous library with 7864 rare and valuable
books, 28 periodicals published in three languages and 12 prominent Dailies.
National Book Week is celebrated from 15-11-2012 to 21-11-2012 and book

exhibitions were organized by different book stalls of Palakkad in our campus.
Various competitions were also organized to adorn the week.
SPORTS AND GAMES

Facilities for training in various games and athletics are available in the
vidyalaya. A 200 m track, 2 Basket ball court, 3 Volley ball courts, 2 hand
ball court, 1 foot ball Ground, A multi gym, 2 Table Tennis Boards etc.
deserve special mention. Selected students participated in games and athletic
meets oraganized by NVS at cluster level, regional Level And National
level. Vidyalaya sports meet was organized on 4th and 5th JAN 2013.The
Sports meet was inaugurated By Sri. Haridas , an international athletic and
for the closing ceremony Sri O.M. Nambiar was chief guest.
ACHIEVEMENTS IN – NATIONAL SPORTS AND GAMES
1. Kum. Ramshiya.T.T of participated in national athletic meet and won gold
medal in 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay and is selected for SGFI.
2. Kum.Drisya.S participated in natinational athletic meet and won gold medal
in 100m and 4x100m relay and is selected for SGFI.
3. Kum.Anagha.V.S participated in national athletic meet and won gold medal
and two Silver medals in 1500m, cross country and 4 x 100m relay.
4. Kum Grashma Sadan of won two Gold medals in 100m hurdles and 4 x
100m relay.
5. Kum. Anjali won one Bronze medal.
6. Kum. Anagha P.R and Adithya.S participated in National Basket ball
championship and won Third prize.
7. Kum. Drisya.S, Ramshya T.T and Grashma Sadan are selected to participate
in the SGFI athletic meet which will be held in Utter Pradesh on 29th Jan-
2013.
8. Kum. Suparna.N and Sneha Kutty Pius participated in the District Athletic
meet and won Third position.
9. Master Siddarth Sankar, Athul Krishna and Kishore. K participated in
Navodaya National Meet.

10. Mas. Sulfikar participated in Navodaya National Athletic Meet and won
Silver medal in 100m hurdles and also participated in Kerala State Amature
Athletic Meet held at Maharaja’s college ground at Ernakulam
11. Mas. Ashik participated in Navodaya National Athletic Meet and won Silver
medal in Triple jump.
12. Mas. Adith Sivadas participated in district level amateur athletic meet and

secured third position in long jump and also participated in state level
competition.
NCC ACTIVITIES
Our school has two Troops of NCC with 50 cadets, for both boys and
girls under 27 Kerala NCC Battalion and 9 Kerala NCC Battalion under the
guidance of NCC officers
Mr. Saji P.C, Caretaker and Mrs. Mary Sebastian respectively.
ACHIEVEMENTS OF JW CADETS
U/O Kum. Rugma Shine of class XII has been selected to participate in the
Youth Exchange Programme in Singapore.
Kum. Athira. K. participated in the Inter Group competition held at Trivandrum
and also participated in Pre RDC at Trivandrum.
Kum. Nimisha Ramesh participated as best cadet in IGC and also participated in
II and III Pre RDC at Trivandrum.
ACHIEVEMENTS OF JV CADETS
Cadet Harikrishna Rohit participated in Tal Sainic Camp in New Delhi and
secured Silver Medal.
Cadet Vivek P.M participated in Trekking at Malayattoor and also participated
in IGC at Tri vandrum.
Cadet Soorya Narayanan participated in National Integration Meet at Kannur.
HOUSE SYSTEM
Boarding and lodging facilities are provided to the students. For students
participation in house management and mess management, school and house
appointments are made and are given badges in an investiture ceremony.
The students are divided into 4 houses and in turn are again divided into
Sr. boys / girls and Jr. houses. There are a total of 8 Houses,one detention house

for class VI and they are under the supervision of house masters and associate
house masters. The vidyalaya mess is run by a committee comprising of house
masters, students representatives, Vice Principal as mess in charge and Principal
as chairman.
Inter house competition in CCA and Sports and games are organized
regularly as per plan in CCA calendar. In addition to that Important Festival and
days are also celebrated in the vidyalaya which include Republic day,
Independence day, Gandhi Jayanthi, onam, Holi, Deepavali, Christmas,Teachers
day, childrens day, Hindi fortnight, Vigilance awareness week etc.
HEALTH CARE
Vidyalaya is taking health care of students on regular basis and records
are maintained. A qualified staff nurse is in position. Dr. Biju Mon from the
PHC Malapuzha, Palakkad, the part time medical officer visit the vidyalaya
twice in a week and urgent and sick cases are taken to district hospital Palakkad
on all other days.
CAREEER GUIDANCE PROGRAMMES AND COUNSELLING
A career guidance and counselling committee is constituted in the
vidyalaya under the Chairmanship of the Principal.
Regular career Guidance sessions are organized in the vidyalaya by our
staff members as well as experts and various professionals in different fields. A
career guidance corner is also functioning in the library where information are
provided to the students with the help of internet.
The career counseling sessions by two alumni are worth mentioning. Mr.
Abidali Beeran an Advocate in the Supreme Court visited his Alma Mater and
interacted with the students. He gave an insight to the laws and rules related to
various fields to the gathering. He spoke about the important laws which all the
people must be aware of.

Mr Ranapratap, an Alumnus of this Vidyalaya, now an MBBS student in


AIMS, Bhopal visited the Vidyalaya and delivered a lecture on Career

Guidance. The students were made aware of the opportunities that were
available to them for their future career.
INSERVICE TRAINING FOR STAFF
To keep pace with changing times, teachers of our Vidyalaya are given
training from time to time at various venues by NVS. In 2012-13 Mrs. Bindhu
S, Vice Principal has attended a workshop on Technical Knowledge and Skill
Development in Disaster Management for Vice Principal at Nainital.
Mr. V. Sundar attended the Text book writing committee work shop for class VI
at NVS, Chandigarh and also attended the Navodaya National Integration Meet-
2012 held at Central University, Hyderabad.
Mr. K Sasikumar attended a seminar at IISc, Kunthapura, a workshop for
PGT(Maths) at IMSc at Chennai, participated in Regional Children’s Science
Congress held at IISc Bangaluru and workshop in enriching Maths Lab at JNV,
Ernakulam
Mr. K.M.Pius attended a workshop on Emergency Response and Life Saving
skills at NLI, Ranga Reddy
Mrs. Ramila Francis attended a training programme on Personality
Development at NLI, Guntur
Mr. Vineet K Basker attended a workshop in enriching Maths Lab at JNV,
Ernakulam.
Mr. K.C. Davis attended a workshop for Preparation of e-content for class VI to
VIII English.
Mr. Ramachandra Chakkiar attended a workshop for House Masters on Safety
and Security.
Mrs. Valsala Kumari and Mr. G. Murali Krishna attended a workshop on Hindi
language at NLI, Rangareddy.
MAJOR CLUB ACTIVITIES

1. CELEBRATED WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY


World environment day was celebrated in which the chief guest Dr. A.P
Jayaraman retired Scientist from BARC delivered a lecture on Biodiversity

and spoke about the destructive activities carried out by the people in the
name of modernization.

PACE SETTING ACTIVITIES


Books were purchased under the Mobile Library for the benefits of the
neighbouring Government Schools. Selected students, Librarian and the
Teacher In-charge of the Pace Setting Activity are involved in the distribution
of the books to the neighbouring schools. It is planned to rotate and exchange
the books periodically among the students. The Various Government schools
listed out are the following:
1. Ashram School, Malampuzha.
2. Govt Vocational Higher Secondary School, Malampuzha.
3. Govt Lower Primary School, Akathethara.
4. Pandit Motilal Govt Higher Secondary School.

2. LOVE PLASTIC PROGRAMME 

‘Love Plastic Programme’ launched by the leading Malayalam Daily


“Mathrubhumi’ in collaboration with the ‘Pelican Foundations’. The
representatives from Mathrubhumi daily, Mr.Rakesh and Mr.Jayachandran
visited our Vidyalaya on 22.08.12 and inaugurated the ‘Love Plastic
Programme’.

3. TRANSFORMING INDIANS TO TRANSFORM INDIA


The Chinmaya Mission, Palakkad conducted an interactive session with our
Vidyalaya students on “Transforming Indians to Transform India” a
National Level Quiz programme in connection with the celebration of 100th
birth anniversary of Swamy Chinmayananda

PARENT TEACHER COUNCIL
An active parent teacher council is functioning in the vidyalaya consisting
of 15 parent members 5 teachers, Vice Principal, as secretory and Principal as
the Chairman of the committee. This committee has taken initiative to improve
the infrastructure in the vidyalaya. Parent Teacher Council Meeting is convened
on every second Saturday of the month and discussions for the improvement
and welfare of the Vidyalaya are carried out.
On this auspicious occasion I would like to make a fervent appeal to our
respected VMC Chairman that we are in urgent need of installing a rain water
harvesting plant to minimize our huge water bill through some local area
development fund and also request the President of the Malampuzha Panchayat
to take urgent measure to provide the bio gas plant in this academic year itself.

ALUMNI ASSOCIATION
The vidyalaya is going to celebrate its silver jubilee in 2013. A meeting of the
executive members of the Alumni of this Vidyalaya was conducted to plan for
the celebration of Silver Jubilee of this noble institution.

INFRASTRUCTURE FACILITIES
This is one area the vidyalaya lags behind compare to other JNV’s. The
main areas are
1. Shortage of space for junior science lab, maths lab etc.
2. The MP Hall construction is in complete ,it needs a stage, side walls
and neat flooring.
3.The old dormitories which are CBRI pattern construction needs
renovation. Estimate prepared by CPWD is already been forwarded to
samiti for fund sanction.
4. The kitchen, store and work area and old mess halls need
renovation.For this also estimate prepared by CPWD is pending with
samiti for fund sanction.

5. Cables work estimate for 25 KV generator has been submitted to samiti
and sanction is awaited.

CONCLUSION
We are guided by the vision of Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti and our
mission is academic excellence and holistic development of every child in this
vidyalaya with a sensitive social conscience. We are striving to improve our
achievements further and target is hundred percent pass with 100% distinction.
This requires concerted and committed efforts from all.
Every individual associated with this institution, be it parent, staff,
student are equally important and constructive participation and deep
commitment is essential in achieving the institutional goal.The institutional goal
is to establish and stabilize quality performance of children in all areas. Any
laps from any one corner can / will divert the attention of the whole system.
With mutual understanding, respect and trust among staff, students and parents,
let us all vow to progress further. With these words of hope I conclude this
report.
