INTRODUCTION
Out of all handicapped the blind are the most useful members of the society. Except for that day
they have lost their vision and visual control, they are healthy and normal as other human beings.
Experience has also proved that given a proper training they would be able to perceive the world
their other sense and carry on with a near normal life.

So to maintain them as healthy members of society, it is important to near them not with
compassion and pity but to generate within them an enthusiasm and eagerness’ to develop a sense
of equality of equal giving and taking.

AIM

This project aims at understanding the various way in which the visually impaired individual relates
To his environment identifying how these inter-relationships can be interpreted in Architecture
Design to enable him to have a richer experience in any sensing and illustrating it in an architecture
Design proposal for a school for the visually impaired.

OBJECTIVE

Light is the basis of vision. Light is what we see and which gets reflected from objects and living
Beings, but for a person who cannot see light the senses he is left with is feel/touch, smell and noise.
The people in the dark are the blind. It is very difficult for any normal person to imagine life without
“Eyes”. In a country like India which has 6-7 blind people for every hundred. Thus, it is time that our
Country realize that these people also have the right to be provided for. Thus a special center
Dedicated for the blind and the visually impaired, becomes a necessity. A center where they could
Be trained to lead a normal life and earn their own living.
The main objective of this project is to provide a comprehensive and integrated learning cum living
environment which is challenging yet sale for these special category users an environment which
would enhance their perception of space and its elements and prepare them against any kind of
difficulties obstacles and hazards to be faced in their future life outside this protected environment.
This could be achieved through the Study & Analysis of the design and detailing requirements for the
visually impaired and application of the above in a design proposal.

NEED OF THE PROJECT

 Work for the visually impaired, offers a desired opportunity to have a small contribution
toward their development.

 To create an ideal and educative environment for these children deprived of their vision and
their contact with the environment.

 To bridge the gap that have alienated these children from our environment by extending
basic parameters on to all public areas.

 This give me a chance to explore the so considered visual discipline of Architecture in other
fields of sensory perception.
