Should Tidar University Enforce The Limitation of Time toward Student?

A campus is a place where student, teacher, staff and all of the academic community
gather in order to fulfill their own obligation. In this place, there are many activities involve all
the elements. The main function of the campus itself as a place where we can share our
knowledge. As we know, the learning process is not only in the classroom but also out of the
classroom. However, Tidar University has enforced the limitation of time at 9 pm toward a
student. Therefore, all student activity must be done at that time. They have come back to their
home.

In this case, there are many contra sides relate to this rule. If we compare with another pr
campus. We will find some distinction between Tidar University and others. For instance, In
Unika Soegijapranato campus also have regulation about the limitation of time toward student
activity. Fortunately, in this campus give extra time until 11 pm. So, the student can explore
their ability, soft-skill and so on maximally. Unika Soegijapranata’s regulation easier than Tidar
regulation because if student conduct an event more than 11 pm. First, they can ask permission to
their rector and the process is not difficult. Moreover, there is no strict sanction, if they break the
rules.

The other campus is Dian Nuswantoro University. It also applies the limitation of time.
Different case with Tidar University. 10 pm is the limitation of time. Besides that, security will
check one by one the room. If there is a learning process, they will be waiting until the meeting
or learning process finished. Both of Dian Nuswantoro University and Unika Sogiejapranata
have the limitation of time more than Tidar University and for the implementation, they more
tolerate or give support toward positive student’s activity.

I do believe that a campus should become the best place in order to support positive
student’s activity. However, if the limitation of time too earlier that will give big impact relate
their ability. Based on student point of views especially the student who involve extra curricula
or UKM or student who join the organization. There are many effects because of the limitation
of time. First, it comes from Grandio Sonora Tidar. It is a choir group from Tidar University.
They extremely refuse the regulation of time that implemented in this campus because it is not
suitable for their purpose. They only get a chance to improve their ability in the night. As we
know, we spend our time studying in the classroom starting from 7 am until 5 pm. So, from 8 pm
until midnight is the best way to improve their skill. Moreover, they have to practice more in
order to prepare the international competition.

The second refusal comes from UKAI . UKAI is a student activity unit that engaged in
Islamic religious. They also refuse the limitation of time because it disturbs religious activity.
The most unrealistic reason is they can not peal Subuh adzan because the campus gate is still
locked. Then, security did not give them permission in order to peal Subuh Adzan. In fact,
Adzan is an obligation for every Moslem in the world to invite everybody for worship. Based on
UKAI’s perspective is too strict and it had disturbed for humanity purposes.

The other refusal comes from LPM MATA. It is one of student activity unit that engaged
in journalism. They did not agree with 9 pm as the limitation of time toward student activity. In
making the regulation process, there is no involvement from the student. So, there is no
agreement between the student and the decision maker. Besides that, 9 pm is not appropriate if it
implemented on this campus. They take a survey about the limitation of time by observation and
the questionnaire that fulfilled by Tidar University students. The result of it said that most of
them disagree with that regulation.

The limitation of time toward students activity had implemented on some universities.
However, the rules are not as strict as at Tidar University. Based on data above, we can
conclude that it will be better if the rector or decision maker gives extra time related the
limitation of time because 9 PM is too earlier for those who have to finish their obligation or
improve their soft skill like practice for competition, pealing adzan subuh, meeting and the other
student’s positive activity..They suggest more than 10 pm are the best time for the limitation.
Then, Involving all the elements in making regulation is the important thing too because this is
our campus and everybody have to involve in it to make Tidar University better than before.
