1.02 Safety
The scope of the delivery covers components which may involve a risk to operation and maintenance
personnel working near or on the components.
Explanation of symbols used:
DANGER indicates an imminently hazardous situation which, if not avoided, will result in
death or serious injury.
High level of risk.
WARNING indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided, could result
in death or serious injury.
Medium level of risk.
CAUTION indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided, may result in
minor or moderate injury.
Low level of risk.
NOTICE indicates a potentially harmful situation which, if not avoided, may result in
damage of the product itself or of adjacent objects.
Risk of damage to property.
Besides the instructions given in this document, you must follow all generally applicable regulations
concerning accident prevention and safety.
L&T performed
in accordance with our instructions and specifications, thus ensuring that the high quality of the product is
maintained and allowing the warranty to apply.
The following erection procedures must be verified:
CHECK POINT - Inspection of welds and penetration testing of gas-tight welds on static
parts. See Erection Instructions in the manual. Welds must be verified by certified
personnel, and welding certificates must be managed by L&T Howden's QA department.
If check points or verification documents are not applicable (single-stage versus two-stage; roller
bearings versus sleeve bearings), they should be noted as NA.
The following must also be checked during erection according to the erection instructions:
CHECK POINT - Check connection and function of heating element behind hub
in inner tube of inlet box - only applicable for hot fans (ID fans).
CHECK POINT - Check oil level in hub(s) - only applicable for hot fans (ID fans).
CHECK POINT - Check that the bearings of the regulating drive assembly are
filled with grease.
CHECK POINT - Flush control oil system; check for leaks; check oil level.
Replace filter element.
CHECK POINT - Flush lube oil system; check for leaks; check oil level. Replace
filter element.
CHECK POINT - Check seal air installation only applicable for hot fans (ID
fans).
CHECK POINT - Check that the flexible connections at the inlet box and diffuser
are able to move and can prevent metal-to-metal contact between the fan and
ducts.
CHECK POINT - Check signs. All signs must be visible and positioned outside
the fan insulation.
WARNING - The main motor must not be connected to the power supply if the inspection
hatch in the impeller casing has been removed or if work is to be done through openings in
the static outer parts of the fan or its flexible connections.
WARNING - The main motor must not be connected to the power supply unless the
coupling guard has been fitted.
WARNING - Inspection doors and hatches must not be removed until the rotor is stationary.
WARNING - Close openings in vertical ducts to prevent the risk of falling objects.
WARNING - Do not climb onto the fan or auxiliary equipment without proper safety
equipment, e.g. scaffolding or gantries.
CAUTION - Do not stand on the consoles or supports protruding from the surface.
CAUTION - Use of helmet, hearing protectors and eye protectors is recommended when
standing near the fan local safety regulations must be followed.
CAUTION - Avoid touching regulating parts during operation as there is a risk of crushing.
NOTICE - The inlet area of the inlet box should be kept clear of loose parts, which could be
sucked into the fan.

2. DUCT SYSTEM
2.a Check that the duct system and fan are
completely clean and free of any foreign
matter (tools, cloths, etc.), which could
damage the fan.
2.b Check that the duct system is free of
people and animals (mice, rats, birds, cats,
etc.).
2.c Check that all inspection doors, hatches
and safety guards have been fitted, sealed
and fastened correctly.
