5/10/2019 Chapter 9 Lesson 2: Ordered Pairs DO NOW (~5 min):
x-axis: the horizontal number line on the grid that goes from west to east
y-axis: the vertical number line on the grid that goes from north to south
ordered pair: a point represented by a pair of numbers that gives the x-
coordinate and y-coordinate on a gridObjective: SW graph and name
points on a coordinate grid using
ordered pairs.EXPLANATION (5 min):
When we do coordinate pairs, the first number is always going to be
the x-coordinate.
The second number is always going to be the y-coordinate.
You can remember this by thinking about how x comes before y in the
alphabet. The x-axis is horizontal which begins with “h” while the y-axis
is vertical which begins with “v’. H comes before v in the alphabet too!
