1) A solid cube of silver (density = 10.5 g/cm3) has a mass of 90.0 g. (a) what is the resistance
between opposite faces of the cube? (b) Assume each silver atom contributes one conduction

electron. Find the average drift speed of electrons when a potential difference of 1.00 × 10 V is
applied to opposite faces. The atomic number of silver is 47, and its molar mass is 107.87 g/mol.

2) The capacitor in the figure given below consisting of two circular plates with radius R = 18.2cm
is connected to a source of emf. At what rate must the potential difference between the plates
with 2.0µF capacitance be changed to produce a displacement current of 1.5A?

3) Two long parallel wires separated by 0.60m carry antiparallel currents (the currents are
physically parallel but in opposite directions) of 7.0 A each. What is the resulting field along the
line between the wires and 0.40m from the lower wire?

4) A conductor suspended by two flexible wires as shown in figure has a mass per unit length of
0.040 0 kg/m. What current must exist in the conductor in order for the tension in the supporting
wires to be zero when the magnetic field is 3.60 T into the page? What is the required direction
for the current?

5) An α-particle moves in a circle of radius 5.0 × 10 m in a magnetic field of 2.0 T. Find the
speed of the α-particle and the frequency and period of the motion.
6) Find the maximum torque on a circular coil of 0.050m radius with current of 0.50A and in a
magnetic field of 0.0050T.

7) The plane of a square loop of wire with edge length a = 0.200 m is perpendicular to the Earth’s
magnetic field at a point where B = 15.0 μT, as shown in figure. The total resistance of the loop and
the wires connecting it to a sensitive ammeter is 0.500 Ω If the loop is suddenly collapsed by
horizontal forces as shown, what total charge passes through the ammeter?

8) A current 10 A flowing through a straight wire is split at point A in two semicircular wires of radius 0.1
m. The resistances of upper and lower semicircular wires are 10 and 20 respectively. The currents
rejoin to flow in the straight wire again as shown in the figure below. Determine the magnitude and
direction of magnetic field at the center “O”. o  4  10 T .m / A

9) Four long copper wires are parallel to each other, their cross sections forming the corners of a square
with side a = 20cm. A 20A current exists in each wire in the direction shown in the figure below. What
are the magnitude and direction of B at the center of square?

10) A coil of 15 turns and radius 10.0 cm surrounds a long solenoid of radius 2.00 cm and 1.00 × 103
turns/meter. The current in the solenoid changes as I = (5.00 A) sin(120t). Find the induced emf in the
15-turn coil as a function of time.
