Brief chosen:
Brief 3 : Magazine and Online
…………………………………………………………………………………………………………

How do you intend to use the four areas of the media theoretical framework to communicate meaning
and meet the requirements of your chosen brief? (approx. 400 words)

Product 1

The genre of magazine I have chosen is alternative lifestyle. To accommodate for the genre, I’ve chosen
……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
to use two very different gender based social groups. The first social group I have chosen is a
heterosexual social group that will have underlying alternative and artistic themes. These themes will be
……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
supported by cover-lines that include specific fashion weeks but also shows such as the Whitby Gothic
Weekend to keep within the genre and to, in the end appeal to an audience who resemble alternative
……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
lifestyles. The second social group will have a non-binary/ Trans style. This will be done through heavy
editing of the model on the front-cover to imply gender fluidity and anchorage text from the main
……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
cover-line to said image.

The Magazines will primarily create representations of women as all of my models are women. So in
accordance with the models, topic cover-lines will cover important issues that relate mostly to women
……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
and to everyone. Such as the Weinstein scandal and The Me-Too movement to show the awareness the
magazine has for global events and issues. Representations of alternative lifestyle will be made through
……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
dark contrast and harsh lighting on both issues of the magazines, issue 1 will represent fashion more
than lifestyle by using images that have the models in ornate backgrounds but still under studio
……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
conditions. Issue 2 on the other hand will be leaning towards lifestyle as the main theme will be the
non-binary state of gender. To balance the fashion to lifestyle ratio on both issues, the cover-lines will
include more everyday topics. The representation of youth will be represented through the age of the
……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
models who are within (18 - 20 years) this fits within the briefs’ age and class demographic.
……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
In aspect to industry the magazines will include cover lines that include major institutional shows and
performances such as new york fashion week and the whitby gothic week. As well as this there will be a
…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….
call to action of the website on the main front covers. This will inform the audience and possibly make
them want to go online to find out more about the magazine.

For my website, I have looked at similar websites that cover the lifestyle and fashion genre. To make the
website more mainstream I will push my website towards a simpler look of main images and links.
…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….
Therefore there will be a basic colour scheme and to include the audio-visual content the website will
scroll to pages that include the issues presented in product 1. The second page of the menu bar will link
…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….
to the subscription page to provide the awareness of technological convergence as well as the need for
two different pages. Pages will include categories that will cover certain issues relative to the brief and
…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….
genre of lifestyle: Fashion, Relative articles, Interviews, and Lifestyle overviews/ tips. A page about the
Idea behind the magazine's inception and a contact us page allowing the user the ability to contact the
…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….
magazine directly. Industry wise, the magazine will make links to a bigger co-orporation and under the
brief stating we will be part of Bauer the necessary references will be included in the "About us" page. In
addition to this, a relative awareness of online markets will be made aware in the subscription page and
…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….
social media tags also on the subscription page. To make the website appealing to the target audience a
variety of issues will be covered that can be relatable to a young audience of the AB demographic. These
…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….
will also be included in the magazine such as alternative art styles. Representations of youth will be
portrayed in the magazine as similar images will be used to the ones on the covers and contents pages.
…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….
Due to the nature of the alternative style representations of being alternative will have to be apparent
however to meet with the criteria they can't be too extreme otherwise they wouldn't fall under the brief.

How do you intend to link your media products to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of
the digitally convergent nature of your media production? (approx. 100 words)

I ……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
will also create a website for my magazine which will include relative information and similar style to the
magazines. This is to create a brand identity but to also acknowledge the fact that most print texts (such
as Empire and The Guardian)’s online presence is becoming increasingly known. In addition, I will also
……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
include a page in which the viewer can purchase a digital copy of the issues and sign up for a monthly
subscription which will allow the viewer to access to behind the scenes footage. These features make
……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
purchasing and viewing issues easier for all audiences. Aswell as this links to social media accounts will
be available as to re-direct the user to the magazines social media page and group. On these accounts
……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
the user will get to view up-to-date and behind the scenes events posted by the magzines social media
advisor. It will also act as another way for the user to contact the magazine.
