1 Setup Devices

1) In the Instrument tab, the Devices box allows users to 1) Adjust the peripump flow rate, 2) Fill rinse station by
turning the rinse pump on and off, 3) Turn the vacuum pump on, 4) switch the injection valve between load
and inject, 5) select tubing, 6) alter tray selection and 7) adjust sample loading time.
After making any changes, select Apply settings to incorporate these changes into the analysis.

2 Method Development

1) On the Analysis tab, select Method and choose


the analyte of interest and select OK.

2) In the Method box under the Spectrometer tab and Settings, delay time is shown for a 1.5 mL loop with a 4
second load time. This will be used for most analysis of 3 seconds by 3 replicates.
Note: Load time could fluctuate with sample viscosity.

3) In the Sampler and Autosampler tab, select the desired flow rate for your application.
a. 5.000 mL/min is advised for most FAST Flame 1 applications.
b. If more sensitivity is desired, increase the flow rate and adjust nebulizer uptake for best sensitivity. However,
increasing the flow rate will require using a larger sample loop.
c. Using lower flow rates may help stabilize the flame for organic applications and will also help conserve
sample by using a smaller sample loop.

4) Wash selection
a. If “Never” is selected as the Autosampler wash frequency, there will be no probe rinse between samples. This is
to provide the fastest analysis time possible. However, it is only recommended with small loop sizes (below 1.0
mL) because it could lead to improper loading of the following sample. If using a larger sample loop and choosing
“Never” as your autosampler wash frequency, a longer Load time will be required to ensure the loop is filled prior
to sample injection.
b. If “After all solutions” is selected in Autosampler wash frequency, and the Normal time is between 1 and 7
seconds, the probe will be rinsed between samples and the loop will be evacuated prior to analysis. “After all
solutions” and a Normal time of at least 3—5 seconds is recommended for all FAST Flame 1 applications.
c. If “After all solutions” is selected and the Normal time is larger than 7 seconds, then a probe and loop rinse will
occur between samples. This will lead to the best washout between samples.
d. If “Only after solutions exceeding limit” and “After all solutions + extra time is solution exceeds limit” are selected,
an Extra time of at least 15 seconds is advised.
