NOTE
For 4-30 power quality functionality, ensure your meter has the power quality version of the meter
template installed:
For ION7650 meters, you will need the PQ template. For example, 7650_FAC-PQ_V3.3.0.0.0
For ION8800 meters, you will need either the A or B template. For example, 8800A_FAC_V3.3.0.0.0

Introduction 4-30 Compliance and ION Meters
Introduction
IEC 61000-4-30 Overview
The 4‐30 standard defines methods for measurement of power quality parameters
in AC power supply systems. It describes measurement methods for relevant
parameters to obtain reliable, repeatable and comparable results using any
compliant instrument and regardless of the environmental conditions.
Relevant power quality parameters in 4‐30 are: power frequency; magnitude of
supply voltage; flicker; supply voltage dips and swells; voltage interruptions;
transient voltages; supply voltage unbalance; voltage, current harmonics and
interharmonics; and mains signaling on the supply voltage.
For each parameter measured, 4‐30 defines two classes of measurement
performance:
Class A Parameter Performance: This class of performance is used where
precise measurements are necessary. Class A performance can be used to verify
standards compliance or resolve settlement metering. Any 4‐30 parameter based
on the same signal, measured with separate class A–compliant devices, will
produce matching results within the specified margin of uncertainty.
Class B Parameter Performance: This class of performance is used where
precise measurements are not necessary. The algorithm to calculate a given
parameter may give differing results in devices from different manufacturers.
Measurement
Parameter Range Accuracy
Method
5.8 Voltage Harmonics 2 times the limit from IEC 61000-2-4 Class 3 IEC 61000-4-7:2002 Class 1 Class A
5.9 Voltage Interharmonics 2 times the limit from IEC 61000-2-4 Class 3 IEC 61000-4-7:2002 Class 1 Class A
5.10 Mains Signaling Voltage Over All Ranges Above +/-7% of reading Class A
NOTE
The ION8800 will tolerate 200% of Udin as per the requirements of IEC 61000-4-30 section 6 (range of
influence quantities).
4-30 Reports
4‐30 parameters are calculated and logged by the meter. These values, when part
of the ION Enterprise system, can be used to create power quality reports.
WebReporter creates profiles for values as listed below, at intervals of 3 seconds
(the 150/180‐cycle interval), 10 minutes, and 2 hours:
Voltage Disturbances
V1‐RMS (Root‐Mean‐Square)
V2‐RMS
V3‐RMS
THD (Total Harmonic Distortion)
Vneg/Vpos
Vzero/Vpos
V‐Overdeviation
V‐Underdeviation
Frequency
Flicker (deviation expressed as a percentage of nominal voltage; available in
10‐minute and 2‐hour reports only)
Unbalance
See the online ION Enterprise Help for more information on generating and viewing
reports.
