CASE STUDY

Mr Arman is a teacher who have one daughter names Mina. One evening, when Mina was
playing ball with her friends, she was hit by a car when she wanted to take the ball. She
suffered a serious injuries due to the accident. Subsequently, she had to undergo treatment
at the hospital for several months because she had swallowing disorder due to the accident.
Because of the situation that afflicted her, Mina suffered severe trauma. As a father, Mr Arman
felt very emphatic and sympathy to seeing her daughter who suffer for traumatic and
swallowing disorder due to the accidents. He wants to find a way to reduce the burden on her
daughter, so he seek for help from his best friend, Dr. Zafri who is a psychologist to taking
care for his daughter cases. By following the treatment at the hospital, Dr. Khairul who is a
doctor, meet Mr Amran and talked about the level of healthcare that would be given to Mr
Arman's daughter. He has suggested to Mr Arman to allow his daughter to do the Randomized
Clinical Trial because his daughter disease had met the criteria for conducting RCT. He also
convinces Mr Arman that the treatment is the best treatment and rightly will help to restore her
normal life. Without knowing Mr Amran knowledge, Dr. Khairul wants to do the RCT because
he want to keep the reputation high and also to having higher level in his working position. Mr
Arman ask Dr Zafri's views on the treatment proposed by Dr. Khairul about the Mina. After
being told the news to Dr Zafri, suddenly Dr Zafri's being remember on his past experience
story of his life 3 years ago which is he lost his son, who namely Qayum through the treatment
of the Randomized Clinical Trial. Even though it was 3 years ago of the incident, it was still
fresh in Dr Zafri's memory and still feel that the loss of the beloved child, like loss the whole
soul and his life.

DILLEMA

1) Dr.Zafri being a dilemma and keep thinking that if he told Mr Arman about the bitter
story that happened to his son 3 years ago, Mr Arman would probably not let his
daughter to undergo the treatment and his daughter would not recover as his
expectation.
2) Dr Zafri is having a dilemma that if he does not tell Mr Arman about the past story of
his son 3 years ago, Mr Arman might send his daughter to undergo the treatment and
maybe possibility to recovered as normal was successful . But on the same times , he
keep thinking that if the RCT was unsuccessful, and he did not inform Mr Arman about
the story of his daughter , he would probably fell guilty because not telling the truth to
Mr Arman.
ALTERNATIVE

1) As a psychologist (Dr. Zarif) , should not tell about his past experience to Mr Arman as
he needs to be rational while handling his client's problems.

2) Dr Zarif asks Mr Arman to discuss again with Dr Khairul on other treatments to be given
to Mina besides undergoing RCT.

3) Avoiding violation that harm the patient by considered on the "human right patient".

SOLUTION

1. Dr Zarif needs to rationally act as a role of psychologist in which he can share or voice
his views on the risks RCT that offered to Mina and needs to inform Mr Arman but if
Mr Arman wants to accept his daughter by doing RCT, he needs to ready to face the
risk of unsuccessful treatment.

OR

2. Dr Zarif also needs to ask Mr Arman to seek other treatment that Mina can provide to
avoid risk for taking RCT
