Industrial Visit To IIPS

We the students of M.Sc.Biostatistics had an esteemed chance to visit the IIPS establishment
of Mumbai.

Prof. Dr. S.K. Singh, division of numerical demography and measurements guided us all
through the visit. Additionally, one of the understudy cum-representative of the foundation
who is working in the NFHS study helped us understand significant number of the questions
in NFHS information. Additionally, he made us somewhat familiar to STATA programming
which is an outstanding programming for factual examination.

Started in 1956 under the joint sponsorship of Sir Dorabji Tata Trust, the Government of
India and the United Nations, International Institute for Population Sciences has developed
itself as the head Institute for getting ready and research in Population Studies for making
countries in the Asia and Pacific area. IIPS holds an unprecedented position among all the
regional centers.

The Institute had completed 7 Research Projects in the midst of 2008-2009. There are 19 on-
going investigation projects, which were begun in the midst of the year 2008– 2009 and are
in different periods of completion. There are 11 on-going investigation projects financed by
the outside offices. The most discernible among them are the National Family Health Survey
(NFHS).

The Institute is working under the Administrative control of Government of India, Ministry
of Health and Family Welfare, New Delhi. The Institute has seen as a Deemed to be
University in 1985.

National Family Health Survey-4: NFHS-4 is coordinated under the stewardship of the
Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, encouraged by the International Institute for
Population Sciences, Mumbai, and completed by a social occasion of study affiliations and
Population Research Centers, following an exhaustive decision technique. Particular help for
NFHS is given by ICF International, USA with the major budgetary assistance from the
United States Agency for International Development and Ministry of Health and Family
Welfare, Government of India.

The other undergoing large-scale surveys are Longitudinal Aging Study in India (LASI)
Project and Examination of overall Aging and Adult (SAGE).

They have a rich reserve of books related to demography, population sciences, maths,
statistics, etc. in their library. Also, we were allowed to go through the dissertation of the
students of IIPS along with the books.

The visit to IIPS made us feel fortunate and gave a feeling of gigantic delight leaving
ceaselessly a desire of visiting the spot once more.
