A Prayer of Example
In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.
Me: Children learn so much from watching their parents and teachers. This
can be a somewhat frightening thought, yet, when we think about it, they are
learning many more good things than bad from being with us. Let us resolve to
show them more clearly what our deepest beliefs and values look like when they are
acted upon. And let us pray for the strength to teach our children, and each
other, by example as well as words.
All: Lord Jesus, we have long seen you as offering the great example of
how life should be lived.
Help us to be models for our children.
May they see us as people who are loving and forgiving, peaceful and
just, compassionate and generous, prayerful, full of fun and full of hope.
May this meeting of ours be inspired by the ideals we hold and the
hopes we have for the future of our school.
Amen.

Confirmation
It is the role of parents as primary educators of their children to present them for initiation into the
Christian community. It is in the family where children receive the help and example needed to live a
Christian life and share in the mission of Jesus.
Taking an active part in a child's spiritual formation is the right and dignity of Christian parents. It is in
the home that children primarily experience and come to know about God. When children experience
the loving care of their family, when they are challenged to be the best people that they can be by
their parents, and when they witness a family's unceasing striving for healing and reconciliation, then
children really learn about who God is. Parents are, whether they realize it or not, the "sacrament" of
God's presence to their children.
The aim of catechesis is communion with Jesus Christ. Catechesis leads people to enter the mystery of
Christ, to encounter him, and to discover themselves and the meaning of their lives in him. At the heart
of catechesis is the Person of Jesus. The ultimate aim of catechesis is to put people not only in touch but
in communion, in intimacy, with Jesus Christ. (GDC 80)
Parents support their child by attending the enrolment mass, sacramental workshops and returning all
necessary paperwork. Choosing a Saint and a Sponsor will be discussed during RE and further
information sent home.

Parent Activity
In your groups of 4:
The room is already set up with the tables in groups of 4. In your group of 4 you are
going to brainstorm “ways I can help my child with their Confirmation”.
There is a sheet of A3 paper and coloured textas on your desks. You have 5 minutes
to complete the activity in your groups. When completed please bring the paper to
the whiteboard at the front of the room so that we can share our ideas.
