The most important unit operation in a chemical process is generally a chemical reactor.

Chemical reactions are either exothermic (release energy) or endothermic (require energy input)
and therefore require that energy either be removed or added to the reactor for a constant
temperature to be maintained. Exothermic reactions are the most interesting systems to study
because of potential safety problems (rapid increases in temperature, sometimes called
“ignition” behavior) and the possibility of exotic behavior such as multiple steady-states (for the
same value of the input variable there may be several possible values of the output variable).
A chemical reactor is an enclosed volume in which a chemical reaction takes
place.[1][2][3][4] In chemical engineering, it is generally understood to be a process vessel used to carry
out a chemical reaction,[5] which is one of the classic unit operations in chemical process analysis.
The design of a chemical reactor deals with multiple aspects of chemical engineering. Chemical
engineers design reactors to maximize net present value for the given reaction.
Chemical reactors is the most important unit operation in a chemical process. A chemical
reactor is an enclosed volume in which a chemical reaction takes place. It is where the conversion of
inexpensive materials into useful products. Chemical engineers design reactors to maximize the use
of raw materials and ensure that the reaction proceeds with the highest efficiency possible. An
improved reactor design and operation results into significant cost savings for chemical plants.
One type of chemical reactor used in the industry is the continuous reactor. Continuous
reactors carry material as a flowing stream. Reactants are continuously fed into the reactor and
emerge as continuous stream of product. Continuous reactors are used in the production of biodiesel.
Most industrial biodiesel production units today use one or a series of continuous stirred tank reactors
with intermediate removal of glycerin.
Biodiesel has become more popular in many countries today because it imposes many
benefits, one of which is it helps to safeguard energy security by reducing the world's reliance on fossil
energy sources.
The design and test of a continuous reactor for palm oil transesterification is discussed in this
paper. The paper focused on the production of methyl esters
